A Study of the Ecological Perspectives in Traditional Korean Homes

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal the kind of traditional perspectives we can use from the past to create a sustainable society for the future and to contribute to the growing interest in, and concern for, environmentally-sound designs. Such perspectives include ways to sustain naturalistic aesthetic views, elements of architectural design, and ideas for traditional lifestyles. Architecture that used these methods would contribute to a more ecologically sensitive view of man's place within the natural environment. This research was conducted by way of literature reviews; the objects of study were physically extant traditional housing, the composition of the traditional village, and traditional lifestyles. The results of this study indicate that the ecological characteristics of traditional Korean homes originated from a holistic conception of society and nature; this holistic conception has been found lacking in our more modern, western influenced homes. In the past, in order to leave an unpolluted or even healthier natural environment to descendents, it was essential to apply ecological principles. Villages harmonized with nature and houses were designed to utilize sunlight and wind. Their natural construction promoted consciousness of human beings and their symbiotic relationship with nature.

사회구성주의와 비판적 사회구성주의 관점으로 본 다문화가정 주거의 실재 (Reality of Housing for Multi-Cultural Families from the Perspectives of Social Constructionism and Critical Social Constructionism)

  • The purpose of this study was to review the conceptual framework of social constructionism and critical social constructionism in the research area of multi-cultural family homes, using a literature review. Fopp argued that social constructionism had an objectivation problem that only considered the actor side as a policy object; therefore he suggested a weaker social constructionist perspective with moderate relativism and the application of feminist epistemology to marginal life for maximizing objectivity. This article explores a conceptual framework for studying the reality of housing of multi-cultural families in Korea in the light of constructionist ideas and presents a review of empirical positivist data to support the framework. Based on results, using the social constructionist framework, five contexts (structural, institutional, organizational, operational, and intersubjective) were reviewed and ideas were suggested to develop an appropriate future situation for multi-cultural family homes. For a weaker social constructionist framework, three National Survey of Multi-Cultural Family Homes data sets were reviewed to determine the real condition of multi-cultural family homes. Further, from a feminist perspective, the empirical data of marginalized multi-cultural family homes were reviewed from the perspectives of gender inequality of decision making, cultural adaptation, and differentiation in housing related areas. In conclusion, two perspectives were useful for understanding multi-cultural family housing in Korea but must be compensated with substantial empirical data for a holistic approach.

시설보호아동의 역할모델에 따른 학교적응 및 미래관의 차이 (School Adjustment and Future Time Perspectives of Children in Institutional Care According to Their Role Models)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the difference in school adjustment and future time perspectives, according to the characteristics in regards to the role models of the children in institutional facilities. Data for this study were obtained from a survey conducted on 310 children aged 11-13. Data were analyzed using various statistical methods such as frequency analysis, chi-square test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and one-way ANCOVA. The main findings of this study were as follows. First, overall, the majority of children selected entertainers and celebrities as their role models. Also, we found differences in children's school adjustment according to their background variables (gender, staying with their siblings, and having parents alive). Second, having role models was significantly related to the levels of school adjustment as well as the positive future time perspectives of the children. Based on the results, practical implications for children in institutional care were discussed.

″Traditional Authenticity″ and It′s Relationship to ″Indigenous Identity″

  • This paper examines the concept of "tradition" for Indigenous Peoples as a construct of reality developed through the lens of Western scholarship and American Indian perspectives. The resulting notions of American Indian tradition constructed by a Western point of view, has been incorporated into the thinking of Western peoples as well as those of American Indians. Possible reasons for this include the lasting effects of colonialism and current mass media and the description of cultural "others" through the Western sciences of Anthropology and Musicology. A definition of what is valid or important in defining "traditional culture" for members of an Indigenous community may utilize significantly different measures than those of Western scholars. In order to illustrate this, the author uses two treatises focusing on the Indigenous American Indian cultures of communities in Eastern North America incorporating Indigenous points of view. One of these two books provides a focus on connections between language and culture and the other on ethnomusicology. From both of these perspectives, traditional identity is seen as continuing in the present day through persistent perceptions of reality, linked to community social performance. These perceptions and their accompanying indexes to tradition are still present despite the disappearance of or frequent changes in the surface forms of both language and manufactured cultural items. The emphasis on "legitimate" or "real" tradition is tied to performance within an ongoing cultural community rather than to Western constructions of what is real found in past descriptions of cultures. An alternative view of "valid" tradition and its relationship to Indigenous identity, needs to incorporate Indigenous perspectives rather than depend on constructions developed using non-Indigenous Western frameworks.

  • The failure of LCC analysis is recognized as a serious risk for companies in fast-paced business environment. LCC analysis has been mentioned and analyzed only in accounting perspectives, but recently engineering perspectives of LCC analysis based on the execution of appropriate procedures become more important than the accounting perspectives. Especially, the practical use of reliability engineering related methodologies is recognized as a key factor for the LCC analysis. For the practical use of reliability methods, LCC analysis for unexposed problems is a key issue, and utilizing FMEA and FTA techniques is needed to solve the unexposed problems. Reliability, maintainability, availability, and safety should be evaluated by the LCC analysis with the reliability methods, so we study methodologies for the LCC analysis. Present Worth can be calculated by multiplication of Annual Equivalent Cost and PWAF. Reliability engineering related methods are needed for the process of dividing Present Worth into PWAF, and the practical use of reliability methods can improve accuracy of LCC analysis.

  • Generating an action plan and obtaining commitment to achieve it is desired in organizations, but not always achieved. Whatever the reason, there is a room for an improved approach to decision making, so that people can arrive at a common understanding of a problem and commitment to action. Those are the purposes of a Decision Conferencing(DC). A DC, one example of single workstation-based GDSSs, is a two-day session attended by a group of people who attempt to resolve important issues of concern to their organization with the help of group facilitation techniques and decision analytic computer modelling. The interchange of differing perspectives on the issues is encouraged by the facilitator who attends to group processes but does not contribute to the content of discussions. Decision analysis provides a variety of structures for modelling the differing perspectives. Information and value judgements are incorporated in these models, whose results usually reveal new, higher-level perspectives on the issues. Information technology is needed to combine the part of the model and to facilitate on-the-spot replay of results. The experimental case study in this paper shows that how a DC can help a Korea's trading company to develop new, corporate level resource allocation strategies which are based on improved consensus among competing participants.

녹색성장 관점에서 본 건강가정 : 과제와 실천 (Healthy Family from the Perspectives of Green Growth : Mission and Practice)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between the perspectives of Green Growth and Healthy Families, and to suggest an expansive paradigm for the study on Healthy Families in the context of Home Economics. From the perspective of Green Growth, the sustainability for future generations, the ecological value, and the foundation of the community network were searched as the key points. So, from the key points, and in the context of Healthy Families, two strategies were suggested: First, the care services in the Center for Healthy Families have to be extended to give more opportunities to the users and the various demands for the care services can be satisfied. Secondly, the exchange of services has to be more activate in the local community so that our society itself can become a completely family-friendly society. Moreover, this study suggested a mission of Home Economics, that the study for family policy, the development of related programs, and the education of professionals for the Center for Healthy Families can be more connected with the perspectives of Green Growth, especially the focus on family, its ecological living patterns and the detailed attitudes needed to balance between industry, the economy, and family in the context of Green Growth.

중학교 가정과 교수와 기술화 교사 및 사회 인구학적 변인에 따른 교육과정 관점에 관한 연구 (A Study on the perspectives on Curriculum of Middle School Home Economics Teachers and Technology Teachers by Socio-demographic Variables)

  • In the 7th curriculum revision, Home Economics and Technology are combined into one subject, Practical Arts(Technology Home Economic), from 5th to 10th grades. The purpose of this study was to ewamine what perspectives home economics teachers and technology teachers have on curriculum. A questionnaire survey was carried out to the 297 middle school home economics teachers and technology teachers across the nation, to find out the differences of their perspectives on curriculum by independent variables. The findings of this study were as follows: 1) Both groups of home economics teachers and technology teachers supported interpretive, emancipators, and technical perspective on curriculum in the order named. 2) Teachers who have teaching experience of 21 years or more showed higher orientation toward technical perspective than those who have teaching experience of 10 years or less in assumptions on society, educational goal, Knowledge, and teaching-loaming method. 3) Public school teachers showed stronger orientation toward technical perspective in assumptions on teaching-learning method, and toward emancipatory perspective in assumptions on society. 4) Teachers who majored in or took charge of Technology generally had strong orientation toward technical perspective, whereas those who majored in or took charge of Home Economics oriented more toward interpretive or emancipatory than technical perspective.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the preferences of the school mathematical terms of South Korea and those of North Korea by administering a survey for learners, inservice teachers, and pre-service teachers, to establish the criteria of desirable school mathematical terms, and to evaluate the school mathematical terms of South Korea and those of North Korea based on the criteria. According to the result of the survey, the preferred mathematical terms are different from one group to the other, yet the mathematical terms of South Korea are more preferred. In general, terms written in pure Korean and concise terms which are easily understandable are favored. To discuss about the criteria of desirable school mathematical terms, four perspectives were set up, 1) the semantic perspective and the regulatory perspective, 2) terms written in pure Korean and Chinese letters, 3) terms from everyday language and technical terms, and 4) the consistency. Six criteria were followed from the aforementioned four perspectives. Finally, various school mathematical terms of South and North Korea were reviewed in the angles of the four perspectives and the six criteria.

산업체와 학생의 세무학 교육 인식 비교-K대학의 사례 (Difference of Perspectives between Companies and Students for Tax Science Education-Focused on K University)

  • This study analyzes the difference of perspectives between companies and students for tax science education in order to present plans to enhance the efficiencies of tax science education. Analyses were made on a total of 93 subjects composed of companies and seniors majoring in tax science at the department of taxation in K University. After analyzing the perspectives on the need for the current curriculum, there was no difference in the overall average between companies and students. For the need for revising the education course, there was a difference in perspective between the two groups at about 1%. There was no difference between the groups for perception on theoretical, lab and on-site experience education, but there was a high difference from the current education course for its perception level. For certification instructions there was a noticeable difference between companies and students at about 1%, and companies responded that guidance on computerized taxation accounting was needed, while students stated that they needed guidance on financial administrator certification. In brief, the significance of this study is that it shows that in order to enhance the efficiency of education on tax sciences, the rapidly changing educational environment must be reflected, and the demands of companies and students.
