Effects of annealing temperature on the crystalline and magnetic properties of YIG films grown by solid phase epitaxy. The eptiaxy films were made by annealing Fe-Y-O amorphous films in the air at 550-1050 $^{\circ}C$ which were sputtered on GGG (111) substrates in a conventional rf sputtering system. Crystallization temperature of Fe-Y-O amorphous films on GGG (111) substrate was between 600 and 650 $^{\circ}C$ which is much lower than that Fe-Y-O powder prepared by sol-gel method. Excellent epitaxial growth of YIG films could be conformed by the facts that the diffraction intensity of YIG (888) plane was comparable with that of GGG (888) plane and full width at half maximum of YIG (888) rocking curve was smaller than 0.14$^{\circ}$ when films were annealed at 1050 $^{\circ}C$. It could be seen that it is necessary to anneal the films at higher temperature for an excellent epitaxy because lattice parameter of YIG films were smaller and the peak of YIG (888) plane is higher and narrower with increasing annealing temperature. Films annealed at higher temperature shows M-H loop with perpendicular anisotropy which was due to 0.15% lattice mismatch between YIG and GGG.
We have investigated the effects of deposition angle on magnetic and magneto-optic properties in Co/Pt multilayer thin films. which were prepared bye-beam evaporation on tilted substrates. with varying tilt angle from $0^{\circ}$ to $60^{\circ}$. The structure of the specimens was examined by x-ray diffractometer and scanning electron microscope. and the magnetic and magneto-optical properties were measured by VSM, torque magnetometer, and Kerr loop tracer. X-ray diffractometry revealed that all of the specimens had multilayer structure and growth orientation of column followed the tangent rule but the crystallograpic orientation, <111>, was slightly deviated from the substrate normal even though the deposition angle was increased up to $60^{\circ}$. A decrement of the magnetization and Kerr angle with the deposition angle was related with that of the film density due to increasing porosity. The perpendicular mag¬netic anisotropy was also decreased with increasing the deposition angle.
We measured the low field microwave absorption (LFMA) and ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) signals at various magnetic field angle in exchange biased CoFe/MnIr thin film. The LFMA signals were dominantly related to the magnetization rotation process. In order to analyze the LFMA signal, we calculated transverse magnetization ($M_{\tau}$) and permeability (${\mu}_{\tau}$) for CoFe/MnIr thin film by using S-W model, which magnetic parameters of exchange bias ($H_{ex}$ = 58.5 Oe) and uniaxial anisotropy field ($H_k$ = 30Oe) was obtained from FMR signals. The LFMA signal at hard axis showed similar behavior compared with that of $M_{\tau}$. As the magnetic field angle approach to the perpendicular to hard axis, the LFMA signals were depending on both of $M_{\tau}$ and ${\mu}_{\tau}$.
In order to investigate the annealing effect for RF magnetron sputtered $Ni_{83}Fe_{17}$ thin films, we have studied the spin wave rehaviors by FMR after annealing the samples at $135^{\circ}C,\;225^{\circ}C$ in air and at $160^{\circ}C,\;220^{\circ}C,\;330^{\circ}C,\;390^{\circ}C\;and\;420^{\circ}C$ in argon gas for one hour respectively. In FMR spectra for the films annealed in argon gas and the assputtered film at perpendicular resonance, only odd numrer spin waves are observed. But even numrer spin waves are observed for the film annealed in air at $225^{\circ}C$ recause of the large difference retween both surface magnetic anisotropy. In the case of the sample annealed at $420^{\circ}C$ in argon gas, the spin waves are shifted toward high field, can due to the increase of saturation magnetization during annealing. The spacings retween the spin wave resonance fields are narrowed rapidly, this is thought that the magnetic homogeneity increased in the film after annealing at high temperature.
The read/write characteristics of CoCr/NiFe double layered media are strongly affected by the magnetic properties of NiFe magnetic soft layer as well as those of CoCr recording layer. Modification of the permalloy layer by NiFe/Ge multilayer scheme resulted in the higher recording sensitivity and the higher reproduced voltage of CoCr/NiFe medium and this is attributed to the higher permeability of the back layer and high perpendicular anisotropy of the CoCr recording layer. Although higher permeability of back layer results in higher recording sensitivity, the increment of the reproduced voltage was not remarkable, which can be confirmed in the FEM numerical analysis. On the contrary, peak shift characteristics of the CoCr/NiFe medium with the NiFe multi back layer was deteriorated compared to that of the CoCr/NiFe medium with NiFe single back layer. Insertion of ferromagnetic thin CoZrNb intermediate layer between CoCr and NiFe layer was effective to ensure large reproduced voltage and low peak shift. These recoridng characteristics were also discussed in connection with microstructural characteristics.

We have investigated the electronic structures of intermetallic multilayer (ML) films of [$Co(2{\AA})/Pd(x{\AA})$] (x: the thickness of the Pd sublayer; x = $1{\AA}$, $3{\AA}$, $5{\AA}$, $7{\AA}$, $9{\AA}$) by employing soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and soft X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). Both Co 2p XAS and XMCD spectra are found to be similar to one another, as well as to those of Co metal, providing evidence for the metallic bonding of Co ions in [Co/Pd] ML films. By analyzing the measured Co 2p XMCD spectra, we have determined the orbital magnetic moments and the spin magnetic moments of Co ions in [$Co(2{\AA})/Pd(x{\AA})$] ML films. Based on this analysis, we have found that the orbital magnetic moments are enhanced greatly when x increases from $1{\AA}$ to $3{\AA}$, and then do not change much for $x{\geq}3{\AA}$. This finding suggests that the interface spin-orbit coupling plays an important role in determining the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy in [Co/Pd] ML films.

In this study, to study an effective use and improve strength performances of woods and wood-based materials, three-ply hybrid laminated woods which are composed of spruce in the face and three kinds of wood-based boards (MDF, PB, OSB) in the core were manufactured, and the effect of constitution elements used for the core laminae on bending creep performances was investigated. The shape of creep curves showed exponential function plots which the upper right side was increased, and differed among the kinds of wood-based boards used for the core laminae of hybrid laminated wood. The creep deformation perpendicular to the grain of faces of hybrid laminated woods was in order $C_{\perp}$(P) > $C_{\perp}$(M) > $C_{\perp}$(O) with PB, MDF and OSB in the core, respectively. It was found that the creep deformation arranged with OSB in the core had 2 times smaller than those arranged with MDF and PB in the core. By hybrid laminating, the creep deformation of spruce perpendicular to the grain was markedly decreased. On the other hand, the creep deformation parallel to the grain of the faces ($C_{\parallel}$ type) of hybrid laminated woods was in order $C_{\parallel}$(P) > $C_{\parallel}$(O) > $C_{\parallel}$(M) with PB, OSB and MDF in the core. The ratios among three hybrid laminated woods were considerably decreased, especially the difference between $C_{\parallel}$(P) and $C_{\parallel}$(O) hybrid laminated woods arranged with PB and OSB in the core was very small. These values showed 0.108~0.464 times smaller than creep deformation of three wood-based boards and it was found that creep deformation of three wood-based boards was considerably decreased by hybrid laminating. Creep anisotropy of hybrid laminated woods was greater in creep deformation than in initial deformation, whereas it was found that the values was much smaller than that of spruce parallel laminated woods.
Jurassic granite from Pocheon area were tested to investigate the effect of microcracks on mechanical properties of the granite. Three oriented core specimens were used for uniaxial compressive tests and each core specimen are perpendicular to the axes'R'(rift plane),'c'(grain plane) and'H'(hardway plane), respectively Among vacious elastic constants, the variation of Poisson's ratio as function of the directions was examined. From the related chart between ratio of failure strength and Poisson's ratio, H-specimen shows the highest range in Poisson's ratio and Poisson's ratio decreases in the order of C-specimen and R-specimen. The curve pattern is nearly linear in stage $I\simIII$ but the slope increases abruptly in stage H-3. As shown in the related chart, diverging point of a curve is formed when ratio of failure strength is $0.92\sim0.96$ Stage IV -3 is out of elastic region. The behaviour of rock in the four fracturing stages was analyzed in term of the stress-volumetric strain me. From the stress increment-volumetric strain equations governing the behaviour of rock, characteristic material constants, a, n, Q, m and $\varepsilon_v^{mcf}$, were determined. Among these, inherent microcrack porosity$(a, 10^{-3})$ and compaction exponent(n) in the microcrack closure region(stage I ) show an order of $a^R(3.82)>a^G(3.38)>a^H(2.32)\;and\;n^R(3.69)>n^G(2.79)>n^H(1.99)4, respectively. Especially, critical volumetric microcrack strain($\varepsilon_v^{mcf}$) in the stage W is highest in the H-specimen, normal to the hardway plane. These results indicate a strong correlation between two major sets of microcracks and mechanical properties such as Poisson's ratio and material constants. Correlation of strength anisotropy with microcrack orientation can have important application in rock fracture studies.
The Iksan Jurassic Granite shows relatively less fractures and homogeneous rock fabrics, and is one of the most popular stone materials for architectures and sculptures. Almost mutually perpendicular rift, grain, and halfway in the Iksan Jurassic Granite are well known to quarrymen based on its splitting directions, and therefore it should exhibit orthorhombic symmetry. Theoretically, there are 9 independent elastic stiffness coefficients $(C_{1111},\;C_{2222},\;C_{3333},\;C_{2323},\;C_{1313},\;C_{1212},\;C_{1122},\;C_{2233},\;and\;C_{1133})$ for orthorhombic anisotropy. In order to characterize the static and dynamic elastic properties of the Iksan Jurassic Granite, triaxial strains under uniaxial compressive stresses and ultrasonic velocities of elastic waves in three different polarizations are measured. Both experiments are carried out with six directional core samples from massive rock body. Using the results of experiments and the densities measured independently, the static and dynamic elastic coefficients are computed by simple mathematical manipulation derived from the governing equations for general anisotropic media. The static elastic coefficients increase ar uniaxial compressive stress rises. Among those, the static elastic coefficients at uniaxial compressive stress of a 24.5 MPa appear to be similar to the dynamic elastic coefficients under ambient condition. Although some deviations are observed, the preferred orientations of microcracks appear to be parallel or subparallel to the rift, the grain, and the hardway from microscopic observation of thin sections. This indicates that the preferred orientations of microcracks cause the elastic anisotropy of the Iksan Jurassic Granite. The results are to be applied to the effective use of the Iksan Jurassic Granite as stone materials, and can be used for the non-destructive safety test.
To analyze lateral displacement of excavation walls exposed during the construction of Subway Line 1 in the Daegu region, inclinometer measurement data for sites D4, D5, and Y6 are investigated from the perspective of engineering geology. The study area, in the Banyawol Formation, Hayang Group, Gyeongsang Supergroup, is in the lower part of bedrock of andesitic volcanics, calcareous shale, sandstone, hornfels, and felsite dykes that are unconformably overlain by soil. The rock mass around the D4 site is classified as RMR-V grade and the maximum lateral displacement of 101.39 mm, toward N34W, was measured at a bedding-parallel fault, at a depth of 12 m. The rock mass around the D5 site is classified as RMR-IV grade and the maximum lateral displacement of 55.17 mm, toward the south, was measured at a lithologic contact between shale and felsite, at a depth of 14 m. The rock mass around the Y6 site is classified as RMR-III grade and the maximum lateral displacement of 12.65 mm, toward S52W, was measured at an unconformity between the soil and underlying bedrocks, at a depth of 7 m. The directions of lateral displacement in the excavation walls are vector sums of the directions perpendicular to the excavation wall and horizontally parallel to the excavation wall. Lateral displacement graphs according to depth in the soil profile show curvilinear trajectories, whereas those in bedrock show straight and rapid-displacement trajectories.
