This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of various filter conditions on unconfined aquifer (alluvial aquifer). We made model test device which has filter layer, pumping well and observation well which consist of sand layer and gravel layer to test. Step drawdown test and long term pumping tests were carried out using the device. The permeability characteristics of each test group were confirmed and the optimal yield was calculated. As a result of comparing the optimal yield of double filter and single filter in sand, dual-filter SD-300 was valued at 216.8 % higher final optimal yield than single-filter SS-300. Comparing the dual filter SD-300 and the single filter SS-100 with a thin filter layer, dual-filter SD-300 was valued at 709.2% higher final optimal yield than single-filter SS-300. As a result of analysis of optimal yield change over time, It was confirmed that the ratio of optimal yield of single filter and dual filter increase over time. In order to evaluate the long-term change in water intake efficiency, we considered the point at which the initial optimal yield was reduced by 50%. The dual filter SD-300 is about 351.1% higher than SS-300, which is the same thickness filter, and about 579.0% higher than SS-100. From these results, Assuming that the point at which the initial quantity of water intake is reduced to 50% is the well life, double filters are expected to increase their lifespan by about 3.5 times over single filters of the same thickness and by about 5.8 times over typical single filter. These results can be used to design wells to river bank filtration or filtered seawater. In addition, it is possible to clarify the effect of the double filter through the comparison with the future field test results.
This study evaluated a model unconfined aquifer comprising a sand or gravel layer, a filter layer, a pumping well, and an observation well. The model was employed in step drawdown tests and then used to assess the permeability of each test tank. The optimal yield and well efficiency were then calculated. Evaluation of yield by step in sand layer filters of equal thickness gave optimized watering rates of 22.03 L/min in the double filter and 19.71 L/min in the single filter. The double filter's yield was 115.0% that of the single filter. A comparison of double and single filters, each 10 cm thick, showed the double filter to have a maximum yield of 182.7%. Yields for the gravel layer were 73.56 L/min for a double filter and 65.47 L/min for a single filter of the same thickness; the former value is 112.3% of that of the latter. Comparison of double and single filters with 10-cm-thick gravel layers revealed that the double filter had a maximum yield of 160.9%. Results for sand wells showed the double filter to have a maximum efficiency of 70.4% and the single filter to have a minimum efficiency of 37.1%. Gravel-layer well efficiencies were >66.5% for both double and single filters (each 30 cm thick), but only 22.5% for a 10-cm-thick single filter. This study confirms that permeability improved as the filter material became thicker; it also shows that a double filter has a higher yield and well efficiency than a single filter. These results can be applied to the practical design of wells.
In this study, the soil characteristics are analyzed using the result of various soil tests as an object of the soil layer of natural slopes in landslides areas composed with gneiss, granite, and the tertiary sedimentary rock. To investigate the soil characteristics according to landslide and non landslide areas, soils are sampled from Jangheung, Sangju and Pohang. The landslides at three areas are occurred due to heavy rainfall in same time. The geology of Jangheung area, Sangju area and Pohang area is gneiss, granite, and the tertiary sedimentary rock, respectively. On the basis of the landslide data and the result of soil test, the soil characteristics at the landslide area and the differentiation between landslide area and non landslide area are analyzed. However soil characteristics have a little differentiation to geological condition, the uniformity coefficient and the coefficient of gradation of soils at the landslide area is larger than those of soils at the non landslide area. Also, the proportion of fine particle of soils at the landslide area is higher. The plastic limit of soils sampled from the granite and the sedimentary rock regions is larger than that sampled from the gneiss region. However the liquid limit is irrelevant to the geological condition. Also, the consistency of soils at the landslide area is smaller. The natural moisture content of soils in the sedimentary rock regions is larger than that of the granite and gneiss. It is mainly influenced by mineral composition, soil layer structure, weathering condition, and so on. The soils sampled from landslide area have higher porosity and lower density than those from non landslide area. It means that the soils of landslide area have poor particle size distribution and loose density. Therefore, the terrain slope with poor distribution and loose density is vulnerable to occur in landslides. Also, landslides are occurred in the terrain slope with high permeability. The permeability is mainly influenced by the soil characteristics such as particle size distribution, porosity, particle structure, and the geological origins such as weathering, sedimentary environment. Meanwhile, the shear strength of soils is little difference according to the geological condition. But, the internal friction angle of soils sampled from the landslide area is lower than that of soils from the non landslide area. Therefore, the terrain slope with low internal friction angle is more vulnerable to the landslide.
In rural areas, nitrate-nitrogen (NO3-N) pollution caused by agricultural activities is a major obstacle to the use of shallow groundwater as domestic water or drinking water. In this study, the water quality characteristics of shallow groundwater in Hyogyo-ri agricultural area of Yesan-gun, Chungcheongnam-do province was studied in connection with land use and chemical composition of soil layer. The average NO3-N concentration in groundwater exceeds the domestic and agricultural standard water qualities of Korea and is caused by anthropogenic sources such as fertilizer, livestock wastewater, and domestic sewage. The groundwater type mainly belongs to Ca(Na)-Cl type, unlike Ca-HCO3 type, a general type of shallow groundwater. The average NO3-N concentration (7.7 mg L-1) in groundwater in rice paddy/other (upstream, ranch, and residential) area is lower than the average concentration (22.8 mg L-1) in farm field area, due to a lower permeability in paddy area than that in farm field area. According to the trend analysis by the Mann-Kendall and Sen tests, the NO3-N concentration in the shallow groundwater shows a very weak decreasing trend with ~0.011 mg L-1yr-1 with indicating almost equilibrium state. Meanwhile, SO42- and HCO3- concentrations display annual decreasing trend by 15.48 and 13.15%, respectively. At a zone of 0 to 5 m below the surface, the average hydraulic conductivity is 1.86×10-5 cm s-1, with a greater value (1.03×10-4cm s-1) in sand layer and a smaller value (2.50×10-8 cm s-1) in silt layer.
The applicability of soil washing/flushing to treat a contaminated soil with cadmium (Cd) and copper (Cu) using a mixture of organic/inorganic extractant was evaluated in laboratory-scale batch and column tests. Citric acid was the effective extractant to remove Cd and Cu from the soil among various organic acids except EDTA. Carbonic acid was chosen as inorganic extractant which was not only low toxicity to environment, but also increasing soil permeability. Moreover, the optimum ratio of organic and inorganic extractant to remove Cd and Cu was 10 : 1, and this ratio of organic and inorganic extractant achieved removal efficiencies of Cd (46%) and Cu (39%), respectively. The increasing flow rate of extractant could explain the phenomena of soil packing when carbonic acid was used with organic extractant (i.e. EDTA and citric acid). Therefore, a mixture of organic extractant with inorganic extractant, especially carbonic acid, could resolve a problem of soil packing when this extractant was applied to a field application to remove Cd and Cu using in-situ soil flushing process.
The effects of operating condition of soil vapor extraction system and the characteristics of site on the remediation of oil contaminated soil were investigated. Thorough investigation showed that the site was contaminated with gasoline leaked from underground storage tank and the maximum concentration of BTEX and TPH were 1,081 ppm and 5,548 ppm respectively. The leaked gasoline were diffused to 6m deep and the area and volume of the polluted soil were assumed to 170$m^2$ and 1,000$\textrm{m}^3$respectively. The site were consisted of three different vertitical layers, the top reclaimed sandy soil between the earth surface and 3~4m deep, middle silty sand between 3~4m and 6m deep, and the bottom bedrock below the 6m deep. The air pemeability of soil was measured to 1.058-1.077$\times$10$^{-6}$$\textrm{mm}^2$ by vacuum pump tests. The groundwater which level was 3~4m deep was observed in some areas of this site. The soil vapor extraction system which had 7.5 HP vacuum pump and 8 extraction wells was constructed in this site and operated at 8 hrs/day for 100 days. The BTEX was removed with above 90% efficiency where no groundwater and silty sand were observed. On the contrary, the efficiency of BTEX and TPH were dramatically decreased where groundwater and silty sand were observed. The flow rate of soil air induced by soil vapor extraction system was reduced in deeper soil.
Bipolar plate, which forms about 50% of the stack cost, is an important core part with polymer electrolyte membrane in PEMFC. Bipolar plates have been commonly fabricated from graphite meterial having high electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance. Lately, many researchers have concentrated their efforts on the development of metallic bipolar plate and stainless steel has been considered as a potential material for metallic bipolar plate because of its high strength, chemical stability, low gas permeability and applicability to mass production. However, it has been reported that its inadequate corrosion behavior under PEMFC environment lead to a deterioration of membrane by dissolved metal ions and an increase in contact resistance by the growth of passive film therefore, its corrosion resistance as well as contact resistance must be improved for bipolar plate application. In this work, several types of coating were applied to 316L and their electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance were evaluated In the simulated PEMFC environment. Application of coating gave rise to low interfacial contact resistances below $19m{\Omega}cm^2$ under the compress force of $150N/cm^2$. It also made the corrosion potential to shift in the posit ive direct ion by 0.3V or above and decreased the corrosion current from ca. $9{\mu}A/cm^2$ to ca. $0.5{\mu}A/cm^2$ in the mixed solution of $0.1N\;N_2SO_4$ and 2ppm HF A coat ing layer under potentiostatic control of 0.6V and $0.75V_{SCE}$ for 500 hours or longer showed some instabilities, however, no significant change in coat Ing layer were observed from Impedance data. In addition, the corrosion current maintained less than $1{\mu}A/cm^2$ for most of time for potentiostatic tests. It indicates that high electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance can be obtained by application of coatings in the present work.

Most of the landslides triggered by intensive rainfall on natural slope occur serious damages of human beings and properties. There have been many landslides since 1991 in Gyeonggi province. The influential factors are rainfall, topography, geology and soil properties. There were 660 landslides occurred by intensive rainfall as much as 250mm at Yongin and Anseong area from Tuly 19th to luly 21st,1991 This study surveyed location, topography, geology, geometry of the landslide and rainfall at the area and analyzed occurrence characteristics of the landslides. Most of the landslides occurred on the soil layer above the bed rock. They showed changes of landslide types from translational slides at the head part to flow at the central part. The landslides have relatively small magnitude of which length is shorter than 50m. In order to identify characteristics of landslides dependent on soil conditions, geotechnical properties of soil were evaluated by laboratory tests using soil samples which were collected on slided area and not-slided area. Soil properties of the slided area show high percentage of coarse material such as gravel and sand. However, soil of the not-slided area is mainly composed of fine material such as silt and clay. Permeability coefficients of the slided area are higher than those of the not-slided area.

Polymers are widely used as membrane material for performing the separation of various gaseous mixtures due to their attractive permselective properties and high processability. The separation characteristics of $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ mixed gas using polyamide composite membrane has been studied in this work. The sample gas was prepared by mixing pure methane and carbon dioxide. Permeation tests were carried out at different operation conditions. Feed flow rates were varied between 800~1000 $cm^3/min$, and the stage cuts were varied between 50~60%. The gas inlet pressure and the temperature were varied as 6 bar and $30{\sim}70^{\circ}C$, respectively. The effects of the above mentioned parameters were investigated to estimate the permeability of $CH_4$ and $CO_2$, and the selectivity of $CO_2$ was also calculated for all conditions. The Arrhenius plots were also performed to obtaine the activation energies of $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ permeabilities.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of an additional application of bonding resin on the bond strength of resin luting cements in both the light-cure (LC) and self-cure (SC) modes by means of the ${\mu}TBS$ tests. Three combinations of One-Step Plus with Choice, Single Bond with Rely X ARC, and One-Up Bond F with Bistite II were used. D/E resin and Pre-Bond resin were used for the additional application. Twelve experimental groups were made. Three mandibular $3^{rd}$ molars were used in each group. Indirect composite blocks were cemented on the tooth surface. $1\;{\times}\;1\;mm^2$ dentin-composite beam for ${\mu}TBS$ testing were made and tested. When total-etching dentin adhesives were used, an additional application of the bonding resin increased the bond strength (P < 0.05). However, this additional application didn't influence the bond strength of self-etching dentin adhesives (P > 0.05). In conclusion, the results suggest that an additional application of the bonding resin increases bond strength and enhances quality of bonding when using total-etching dentin adhesives.
