  • The performance of a centrifugal fan depends on the dimensional parameters of impeller, such as the inlet and exit diameter, area ratio, relative flow angles to the blade, and the number of blades. These design parameters, however, are inter-related, so it is very difficult to identify the effect of each parameter on the fan performance. In this experimental study the effects of the design parameters on the performance of a small centrifugal impeller being used for vacuum cleaners are investigated. A total of 30 shrouded impellers with 120mm diameter were tested and the results were non-dimensionalized to compare their performance.

  • The aim of this study is to determine the earthquake performances of reinforced concrete (R/C) residential buildings in Turkey and to analyze the parameters that affect the performance. The performance of Turkish residential buildings, determined by their levels of damage, directly relates to their structural systems. Damage parameters observed from previous earthquakes define structural parameters selected to be used in the present study. Five different types of frame R/C buildings were modeled. For the analysis, the model buildings vary according to the number of stories, column sizes, and reinforcement and concrete strength parameters. The analyses consider gravity forces and earthquake loads through 1975 and 2007 Turkish design codes. In a total of 720 different R/C buildings were investigated for the analysis to obtain capacity curves. A performance evaluation was employed by considering the Turkish design code (TDC-2007). The current study ignores irregularities such as soft stories or short columns. The study's analysis considers a comparison of the parameters' influence on the structural performance of the model buildings.

  • Acoustic performance of the absorptive mufflers used in air-conditioning and ventilating ducts, gas turbines, industrial fans influenced by the design parameters such as the length of mufflers, lining thickness, properties of the acoustic lining, and so forth. So we predicted the acoustic performance according to the design parameters. For the analysis, we assumed the radial propagation constant is locally reacted to the acoustic lining, and analyzed the acoustic performance based on the plane wave theory by using four-pole parameters.

  • In this paper, design and performance analysis of switched reluctance motor(SRM) according to design parameters are researched. The parameters which are sensitive to the performance are examined and selected to have good performances. Some effective guide lines to have a good performance motor are suggested. Prototype machines are constructed to compare with the simulated and tested results.

  • Big data analytics offers endless opportunities for operational enhancement by extracting valuable insights from complex voluminous data. Hadoop is a comprehensive technological suite which offers solutions for the large scale storage and computing needs of Big data. The performance of Hadoop is closely tied with its configuration settings which depends on the cluster capacity and the application profile. Since Hadoop has over 190 configuration parameters, tuning them to gain optimal application performance is a daunting challenge. Our approach is to extract a subset of impactful parameters from which the performance enhancing sub-optimal configuration is then narrowed down. This paper presents a statistical model to analyze the significance of the effect of Hadoop parameters on a variety of performance metrics. Our model decomposes the total observed performance variation and ascribes them to the main parameters, their interaction effects and noise factors. The method clearly segregates impactful parameters from the rest. The configuration setting determined by our methodology has reduced the Job completion time by 22%, resource utilization in terms of memory and CPU by 15% and 12% respectively, the number of killed Maps by 50% and Disk spillage by 23%. The proposed technique can be leveraged to ease the configuration tuning task of any Hadoop cluster despite the differences in the underlying infrastructure and the application running on it.

  • The cross-flow fans have been widely used to constitute the air moving systems in many air-ventilating and air-conditioning units. The cross-flow fan system has many design parameters which have crucial influence on the performance and the noise characteristics of the units. As a result there are many difficulties in the design stage of the system and the general design guide has not been sufficiently established yet. This study presents the experimental results of the parametric investigation of some chosen design parameters which are directly related to the shape of the stabilizer the profile of the scroll casing and the diffusion angle of the flow exit. The results are expressed in terms of the fan performance and the specific sound pressure level characteristics. Some parameters have been found to have crucial effects on the system performance/noise characteristics and should be considered with care in the design stage.

  • Parametric study was performed using the SCW numerical model for evaluating the performance of the SCW. The five ground related parameters, which are porosity, hydraulic conductivity, thermal conductivity, specific heat, geothermal gradient, and five SCW design parameters, which are pumping rate, well depth well diameter, dip tube diameter, bleeding rate, were used in the study. Numerical simulations were performed for short-term (24-hour) simulation. The study results indicate that the parameters that have important influence on the performance of SCW were hydraulic conductivity, thermal conductivity, geothermal gradient, pumping rate, and bleeding rate. Overall, this study showed that various factors had a cumulative influence on the performance of the SCW, and a numerical simulation can be used to accurately predict the performance of the SCW.

  • The study will assess the seasonal effect of hydrological models on performance and parameters for streamflow simulation. TPHM, GR4J, CAT, and TANK-SM hydrological models will be applied for simulating streamflow in ten small and large watersheds located in South Korea. The readily available hydrometeorological data will be applied as an input to the four hydrological models and the potential evapotranspiration will be computed using the Penman-Monteith equation. The SCE-UA algorithm implemented in PEST will be used to calibrate the models considering similar objective functions bedside the calibration will be renewed to capture the seasonal effects on the model performance and parameters. The seasonal effects on the model performance and parameters will be presented after assessing the four hydrologic models results. The conventional approach and season-based results will be evaluated for each model in the tested watersheds and a conclusion will be made based on the finding of the results.

  • This paper presents the optimization technique to select the design parameters of a hydraulic servo valve using the genetic algorithm. The dynamic performance is governed by the design parameters of the servo valve and they may be select by repeated number of simulations such that the desired performance is obtained. Using the genetic algorithm to optimize the design parameters, effective method is suggested. This method can be used for the design of the hydraulic systems as well as the servo valve.

  • Automatic transmission for heavy duty vehicles is a part of the power pack which includes steering and braking systems. This transmission in different from the one for passenger car. Therefore, in order to understand the trend of the important design parameters, maneuverability, acceleration performance and maximum speed, we need to analyze the total performance characteristics of the power transmission systems. In this study, modeling of the automatic transmission in heavy duty vehicle is carried out and the performance analysis method is presented. Results can be used for performance estimation data in the analysis for several combination method which determines the optimal parameters on the basis of penalty functions and weightings. And the estimation method of the important performance parameters such as engine inertia or power loss of engine by experiments is presented.
