휴대용 IT 기기의 디스플레이 내충격 설계를 위한 손상평가 연구 (Study on The Shock Damage Evaluation of TFT-LCD module for Mobile IT Devices)

  • TFT-LCD(Thin Film Transistor Liquid Crystal Display) module is representative commercial product of FPD(Flat Panel Display). Thickness of TFT-LCD module is very thin. It is adopted for major display unit for IT devices such as Cellular Phone, Camcorder, Digital camera and etc. Due to the harsh user environment of mobile IT devices, it requires complicated structure and tight assembly. And user requirements for the mechanical functionalities of TFT-LCD module become more strict. However, TFT-LCD module is normally weak to high level transient mechanical shock. Since it uses thin crystallized panel. Therefore, anti-shock performance is classified as one of the most important design specifications. Traditionally, the product reliability against mechanical shock is confirmed by empirical method in the design-prototype-drop/impact testredesign paradigm. The method is time-consuming and expensive process. It lacks scientific insight and quantitative evaluation. In this article, a systematic design evaluation of TFT-LCD module for mobile IT devices is presented with combinations of FEA and testing to support the optimal shock proof display design procedure.

  • 현재까지 축적된 많은 연구결과와 설계기준을 바탕으로 일반적인 중실단면을 갖는 철근콘크리트 교각의 경우 큰 어려움 없이 내진설계가 수행되고 있지만, 중공원형 철근 콘크리트 교각의 경우 실험 및 해석상의 어려움으로 인하여 국내 외적으로 심부구속철근 상세에 대한 명확한 설계기준과 함께 이에 대한 합리적인 구속 모델 및 내진 성능평가 방안 등은 아직까지 미비한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 주요 설계변수에 따른 중공원형 철근콘크리트 교각의 내진거동 특성을 파악하고, 이를 신뢰성 있는 비선형 유한요소해석 프로그램(RCAHEST)을 통한 결과와의 비교 분석을 바탕으로 보다 경제적이고 합리적인 설계방안 마련을 위한 기초자료를 제시하고자 한다.

  • In modern architecture, the air-tight construction aimed at saving the energy rather causes ventilation problems and the artificial materials for cost reduction worsen the residential quality. To deal with such negative effect, the study on evaluating the health performance becomes increasingly critical. Among the various factors such as design quality, selected material, construction method and mechanical system that shall be subject to evaluation to identify the health performance of the building, the study was aimed at investigating the legal standards associated with healthy building in various countries. Such evaluation items will provide inputs for an attempt to build legal criteria for a building health performance rating system in Korea.

  • A shelf type solar dryer of simple design has been constructed and its performance evaluated by KIER (Korea Institute of Energy and Resources). Experimental result, the rate of moisture removal of the dried sguid in dryer is higher to that obtained by conventional sun drying. Design modification are suggest to improve its performance.

A Design Evaluation of Strained Si-SiGe on Insulator (SSOI) Based Sub-50 nm nMOSFETs

  • A theoretical design evaluation based on a hydrodynamic transport simulation of strained Si-SiGe on insulator (SSOI) type nMOSFETs is reported. Although, the net performance improvement is quite limited by the short channel effects, simulation results clearly show that the strained Si-SiGe type nMOSFETs are well-suited for gate lengths down to 20 nm. Simulation results show that the improvement in the transconductance with decreasing gate length is limited by the long-range Coulomb scattering. An influence of lateral and vertical diffusion of shallow dopants in the source/drain extension regions on the device performance (i.e., threshold voltage shift, subthreshold slope, current drivability and transconductance) is quantitatively assessed. An optimum layer thickness ($t_{si}$ of 5 and $t_{sg}$ of 10 nm) with shallow Junction depth (5-10 nm) and controlled lateral diffusion with steep doping gradient is needed to realize the sub-50 nm gate strained Si-SiGe type nMOSFETs.

  • This paper describes the design and evaluation of a noise suppressing hydrophone that is robust to external noise without sacrificing its performance as a receiver. To increase robustness of the receiver to the external noise, first, effects of location of external noise on its performance are analyzed with the finite element method (FEM). Based on the results, geometrical variations are implemented on the structure with additional air pockets and damping layers that work as acoustic shields or scatterers of the noise, and fourteen trial models are developed for the noise suppressing hydrophone structures. The results show that the effect of the external noise is most significant when it is applied to near the mid-side surface of the hydrophone housing. The external noise is isolated most efficiently when two thin damping layers combined with five air pockets are inserted to the circumference of the hydrophone housing. Overall, of the fourteen structural variations of the hydrophone, the best one shows about 87% reduction in the response of the original structure to external noise.

  • In this paper we deal with a design of the evaluation system to assess the vehicle operational control algorithm for Personal Rapid Transit(PRT) system. PRT system is different from the conventional rail traffic system in such point that the station is off-line so as to guarantee a very short headway. In this study we propose a evaluation system to assess the performance of the proposed vehicle control algorithm. The evaluation system is composed of virtual vehicles, central control system, virtual wayside facilities, monitoring equipments. In order to test the proposed evaluation system a test algorithm is used, which has been simulated in the combined simulation system between Labview Simulation Interface Toolkit and Matlab/Simulink.

선박설계단계에서 손상안전성 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Damage Safety Assessment in Ship Design Stage)

  • Recently ship safety regulations are being reinforced to improve maritime safety and to prevent maritime pollution by International Maritime Organization. It means that the regulation is becoming more proactive rather than reactive. In the mean time, design philosophy is also moving from rule based design to performance and simulation based design. In this paper, a study on practical application of the damage safety assessment system is carried out. The damage stability and the survivability of a cargo ship that was designed based on current regulation is investigated using performance based design tools in order to improve the safety of the design and verify the performance of the developed damage safety assessment system. To do this, damage scenarios is established and the characteristics and geometry the cargo ship is modeled. A new design alternative is proposed with small change in the internal arrangement based on safety evaluation results of the current design.

  • The vehicle simulator is a useful virtual reality system. The simulator enables engineers to effectively research and analyze various experiments. Therefore, the development of a specific vehicle simulator is required, and its performance must be verified. This paper verifies the performance of Pusan National University Vehicle Simulator. Human sensibility ergonomic tests of vehicle simulator were also executed. The sense of simulator motion was chosen as the standard of performance evaluation. The driver's senses were subdivided into senses of rectilinear and rotational velocities. This study extracted ergonomic sensibility words that can be used to evaluate the performance of the simulator As a practical application of simulator, the relation was studied between the sense of simulator motion and the characteristics of drivers, who are classified into their sexes and driving careers. A statistical method was applied to human sensibility ergonomic tests of vehicle simulator.

ATM교환기에서 연결 정보에 대한 감사 기능 수행에 따른 부하 경감 방안 및 성능 평가 (Overload Reduction Design and Performance Evaluation for Connection Information Audit in ATM Switch)

  • This paper proposes the overload reduction method for the connection information audit processor in ATM switch. Based on this method, we design the simple IPC exchange method and non-stop auditing method for IPC loss. We evaluate the performance about the proposed Audit method. At the result of evaluation, we figure out that the p개posed audit method reduces the load of call control processor because of a fewer IPC and prevent stopping audit function for IPC loss because of requesting the lost connection information again. Therefore, we confirm that the proposed audit method can reestablish a Mismatched connection information with a little load and elevate correctness about audit function.
