  • Purpose This study aims to analyse the impact of the development of fintech and the emergence of internet primary banks due to the increasing use of smartphones on the performance of traditional local banks from both financial and non-financial perspectives. Return on equity (ROE) and return on assets (ROA) are used to assess the performance differences between the two types of banks and how these differences are affected by their financial characteristics. Design/methodology/approach Using return on equity (ROE) and return on assets (ROA) as indicators, we identified the differences in operating performance between the two types of banks. In addition, this study analysed the impact of financial characteristics on profitability through regression analysis with various control variables. We further studied the impact of non-financial characteristics (customer reviews, social media reactions, etc.) on operating performance. Findings The net interest margin ratio of local banks had a positive impact, while the marketable securities ratio of Internet primary banks had a negative impact. The non-financial analysis shows that the number of customer reviews and social media reactions have a significant impact on the performance of Internet primary banks, suggesting that customer satisfaction and positive market perception are important factors in the performance of Internet primary banks.

  • The cross-flow fans have been widely used to constitute the air moving systems in many air-ventilating and air-conditioning units. The cross-flow fan system has many design parameters which have crucial influence on the performance and the noise characteristics of the units. As a result there are many difficulties in the design stage of the system and the general design guide has not been sufficiently established yet. This study presents the experimental results of the parametric investigation of some chosen design parameters which are directly related to the shape of the stabilizer the profile of the scroll casing and the diffusion angle of the flow exit. The results are expressed in terms of the fan performance and the specific sound pressure level characteristics. Some parameters have been found to have crucial effects on the system performance/noise characteristics and should be considered with care in the design stage.

  • The Sirocco fan performance and its three-dimensional flow characteristics were numerically predicted by STAR-CD software. Turbulent flow computations were performed using approximately 500,000 mesh points, and the performance results of two computational methods, transient analysis and quasi-static analysis were compared with experimental data. At present, our attention was focused on localizing the three-dimensional flow characteristics of the Sirocco fin, especially the structure of the secondary flow in the scroll and the through-flow characteristics of the Sirocco fan blades. Also, for an optimization, the scroll passage was tilted with 10 degrees to change the flow characteristics and improve the performance of the Sirocco fan.

  • CII BM&M(Benchmarking & Metrics) in USA and DTI(Department of Trade and Industry) in UK have built up systems that enable performance measuring and made the results of performance measurement comparable between projects to utilize them as benchmarking tools. By comparing the results of performance measurement, it is possible to grasp the success level of project management and to establish the direction of management. However, construction projects are much diversified and even those projects with the same work type have different attributes. Therefore, simply comparing the results of project performance measurement without considering the characteristics of projects is not justifiable and affects the reliability of the benchmarking results. Therefore, to solve this problem, this study presents a methodology that makes it possible to compare the individual construction projects considering various characteristics. The benefits and importance of project characteristics to overall project performance will be quantitatively expressed and they will be reflected on the results of performance management. By maximally converting multiple projects with different characteristics into the same projects through a new methodology to convert different projects into the same level utilizing such utility-bases and comparing the performances of those projects, project performance results can be utilized in project management as a tool for more accurate decision making and as a robust benchmarking tool.

  • So far, the Taguchi Method has dealt with multiple quality characteristics under the assumption that they are independent. Since the relationships between quality characteristics are practically important, this study proposes a new performance measure considering the correlation among characteristics. In this paper, we impose weight on each characteristic and correlation among characteristics. The loss function of multiple characteristics is defined in accordance with combination of simple characteristic types, and it is divided into terms of loss that characteristic itself and the correlation among characteristics cause. And the proposed method uses the expected loss of multiple characteristics as the new performance measure. The data in literature are used to compare with the existing performance measures.
