The purpose of this study is to investigate the heat transfer augmentation using the perforated plate placed in front of a target plate in an axisymmetric impinging air jet system. The new liquid crystal technique using neural networks with median filtering is used to determine the Nusselt number distributions on the target surface. The experiments were made for the jet Reynolds number (Re) 23,000. The effects of the pitch-to-diameter (p/d1) from 1.5 to 2.5 in the perforated plate, the hole diameter on perforated plate (d1) from 4㎜ to 12㎜, the perforated plate to target surface distance (z/d1) from 1 to 3, and the nozzle-to-target surface distance (L/d) from 2 to 10 on the heat transfer characteristics were experimentally investigated. It was found that when the perforated plate was located between the nozzle exit and the target plate, the average heat transfer rate at the stagnation region corresponding to r/d$\leq$1.0 was increased up to the maximum 2.3 times compared to the case without the perforated plate.

This study presents the characteristics of a pressure drop and uniformity index for a particulate matter reduction device with a perforated plate and mixer for marine diesel engines. The perforated plate and mixer equipped on the particulate matter reduction device induce an increase of exhaust gas reduction performance by increasing the uniformity index. Whereas, the perforated plate induces pressure drop increases in the particulate matter reduction device. Therefore to calculate the effect of the uniformity index and pressure drop of the perforated plates and mixer, this study combines several cases using five types of perforated plates and one type of mixer. Consequently, these results were analyzed to determine the optimized type and position of the perforated plate and mixer.
The author observed the periodontal tissue reactions to the root canal sealers after root perforations were made intentionally in dogs. The perforations were made on 74 teeth from 7 dogs. The experiments were performed in two different modes of procedure: In Group I, the perforations were made through the root canal to the alveolar bone. In Group II, the perforations were made from site of alveolar bone to the root canals. The perforated canals in Group I were filled with gutta-percha and root canal cements; Calxyl (Calcium Hydroxide in Ringer's solution), Zinc Oxide -Eugenol cement (Z.O.E.), Kerr sealer (Rickert's paste) and AH 26 (Epoxy Resin preparations). The perforated canals in Group II were sealed with Calxyl, Z.O.E, Kerr sealer and AH26. Histologic examinations of periodontal tissue reactions were observed at various time intervals. The results were as follows; l. Cementum deposition on the perforated root surface in Group II cases showed slightly earlier than that of Group I. Healing tendency of injured alveolar bone in Group II was greater than that of Group I. 2. According to the time increase after experiment, the cementum deposition on the site of perforated dentin in Group II with intact pulp was notably thickened. Secondary dentin deposition on the root canal surface where the dentinal tubles were cut was also found in similar pattern. 3. In the cases of perforated canals sealed with Calxyl both in Group I and Group II, It revealed the earliest cementum-deposition among 4 different root canal cements. In the cases of perforated canals sealed with Kerr sealer and AH26, the cementum-deposition on the root surface was not found. 4. Proliferation of epithelium around the perforated area was first seen at 5-week cases in Group I, and at 3-week cases in Group II. 5. In all cases, dentin resorption on the site of perforated root surface was always occured.

Reduction of acoustic loads of space launch vehicles can be achieved by acoustic absorbers satisfying strict cleanness requirements. This limited the use of general porous materials and requires non-porous sound absorbers. Micro-perforated panel absorbers(MPPA) is one of promising sound absorbers satisfying the cleanness requirement for launch vehicles. However, its applicability was limited to low sound pressure levels according to the acoustic impedance model of micro-perforated panels. In this paper the applicability of micro-perforated panel absorbers at high incident sound pressure was investigated in experimental ways. The absorption characteristics of a micro-perforated panel absorber was simulated according to its design variables, e.g., minute hole diameters and aperture ratios. It was shown that optimal design can be readily done by using proposed design charts. Experiments were conducted to measure acoustic properties of the designed micro-perforated panel absorbers. The results showed that acoustic resistance increases rapidly as incident sound pressure level does but change of acoustic reactance can be neglected in a practical point of view. This caused the decrease of peak value of absorption coefficient at high incident sound pressure level, but the amount of reduction can be accepted in practice. The major advantage of the micro-perforated panel absorber(wide absorption bandwidth) was still kept at high sound pressure level.
In recent years, the reversed L-shaped perforated shear connector has been developed to mitigate the problem associated with headed stud and Perforbond shear connector and to simulate the simultaneous failure of concrete and shear connector. And FRP perforated shear connector has been applied to composite concrete and FRP module in the FRP-concrete composite bridge deck. The design criterion of the reversed L-shaped and FRP perforated shear connector has not been established yet since the lack of experimental and analytical study results. In this paper, the existing design equations for the Perforated were briefly discussed and the equation fur the prediction of shear resisting capacity of the reversed L-shaped and FRP perforated shear connector was suggested based on the experimental test, FEM analysis. and the existing equation for the Perfobond. The predict results obtained by the suggested equation arc compared with the experimental results, the applicability and effectiveness of suggested equation was verified.
This work aims to present a solution for the buckling behavior of perforated nano/microbeams with deformable boundary conditions using nonlocal strain gradient theory (NLSGT). For the first time, a solution that can provide buckling loads based on the non-local and strain gradient effects of perforated nanostructures on an elastic foundation, while taking into account both deformable and rigid boundary conditions. Stokes' transformation and Fourier series are used to realize this aim and determine the buckling loads under various boundary conditions. We employ the NLSGT to account for size-dependent effects and utilize the Winkler model to formulate the elastic foundation. The buckling behavior of the perforated nano/microbeams restrained with lateral springs at both ends is studied for various parameters such as the number of holes, the length and filling ratio of the perforated beam, the internal length, the nonlocal parameter and the dimensionless foundation parameter. Our results indicate that the number of holes and filling ratio significantly affect the buckling response of perforated nano/microbeams. Increasing the filling ratio increases buckling loads, while increasing the number of holes decreases buckling loads. The effects of the non-local and internal length parameters on the buckling behavior of the perforated nano/microbeams are also discussed. These material length parameters have opposite effects on the variation of buckling loads. This study presents an effective eigenvalue solution based on Stokes' transformation and Fourier series of the restrained nano/microbeams under the effects of elastic medium, perforation parameters, deformable boundaries and nonlocal strain gradient elasticity for the first time.
Following a series of experiments on isolated low-rise RC shear walls with openings, a theoretical study on the backbone curve of a perforated shear wall shows that there are some important observations from experimental results that make clear a semi-empirical formula of the backbone curve of a perforated wall. Critical shear zones can be depicted from the configuration of shear walls with openings. Different factors, including the size and location of shear wall openings, the wall's height/width ratio, horizontal and vertical steel bar ratios, and location and amount of diagonal steel bars are involved in the derivation of the backbone curve. Bending and shear effects are also considered in the paper. In addition, a comparison of load and displacement for solid and perforated shear walls is discussed. Generally, the comparison between experimental curves and computed backbone curves is favorable.
In an fuel injection type gasoline engine, atomization of fuel droplet and mixture formation process are very important to understand engine combustion efficiency, and also has influence directly on the decision of engine performance and pollutant emission. In this study, perforated throttle valve instead of solid type throttle valve was developed and equipped to an SPI engine to promote secondary atomization and good droplet-air mixture formation. From the engine performance lest. it was verified that the case of perforated valve kas more advantages in each experimental parameters such as in cylinder gas pressure, mass burnt ratio, fuel consumption rate, and pollutant emission characteristics than that of solid one equipped. No matter what the same perforated valve, there are some distinct results in engine performance characteristics according to the perforate ratio.
This paper presented an experimental modal analysis of clamped perforated rectangular plates submerged in water. The penetration of holes in the plates had a triangular pattern with P/D (pitch to diameter) 1.750, 2.125, 2.500, 3.000 and 3.750. The natural frequencies of the perforated plates in air were obtained by the Rayleigh-Ritz method and compared with the experimental results. Good agreement was obtained between the analytical solution and experimental result. The experimental results in water showed that the mode shapes are not sensitive to the depth of submergence. The natural frequencies were shown to decrease drastically once the perforated plates come in contact with water. However, the natural frequencies decrease with the depth of submergence until a certain depth is reached, and become the asymptotic values beyond this depth of submergence. The depth of submergence did not affect the damping ratio greatly.

Perforated elements are extensively used in mufflers for the intake and exhaust systems of various fluid machines. Perforated elements are usually exposed to grazing flow or cross flow. For analyzing performances of mufflers, the impedance of perforated elements with mean flow is very important. The impedance of perforates under both conditions are measured with different experimental setups. Even if there is no flow, the preceding experimental method for grazing flow shows different values with both theoretical ones and measured under cross flow setup. Using high-order analysis considering phase differences, the experimental method for grazing flow can be modified. The acoustical impedance of perforated impedance contains interaction effects between orifices. After correcting these effects, the measured impedance with grazing flow setup show similar results with both theoretical impedance and measured ones under cross flow setup.
