  • Purpose - Previous research points out that South Korean perceive their happiness less than Chinese and Japanese, although the three nations belong to the same Northeast Asia cultural sphere. This study aims to find out the reasons for the relatively low perception of happiness in South Korea and develop policy options to improve the relatively low perceived happiness in South Korea. Design/methodology/approach - For the analyses, analysis of variance (ANOVA) and regression analysis were performed based on the World Values Survey data (Wave 7). Findings - First, South Korean perceived happiness less than Chinese due to 'satisfaction with the financial situation of household' and 'in-group trust'. More specifically, although there was no difference in the impact of 'satisfaction with the financial situation of household' on perceived happiness in South Korea and China, South Korean evaluated 'satisfaction with the financial situation of household' lower than Chinese. In addition, the impact of 'in-group trust' on happiness in South Korea was less than that in China, where the level of 'in-group trust' was also lower in South Korea than China. Second, South Korean perceived happiness less than Japanese due to 'in-group trust'. Although South Korean had a higher level of 'in-group trust' than Japanese, the impact of 'in-group trust' on perceived happiness was less in South Korea than Japan. The contribution of 'in-group trust' to perceived happiness, calculated with the regression coefficient of 'in-group trust' multiplied by the mean of 'in-group trust', was evaluated lower in South Korea than Japan. Research implications or Originality - This study identifies the mechanism leading to low perception of happiness in South Korea, based on the World Values Survey data.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to investigate the variables that lead consumers to visit traditional markets and buy market goods. Thus, the current research examined the relationship between satisfaction and return intention as among the factors influencing loyalty. Research design, data, and methodology - This study was conducted to examine the effects of the perceived level of factors on loyalty and how it influenced consumers' visits to traditional markets in 125 adult adolescents and women living in Mok-po area. The results of the questionnaire were obtained. The statistical data of the questionnaire were verified by SPSS. Results - In this study, consumers' perception level of eight loyalty factors can be perceived by the traditional Korean market. The empirical analysis is summarized as follows. First, by selecting five representative variables influencing intention to return to traditional markets, Mok-po area consumers were affected by the intention to revisit according to the intensity of recognition level among these variables. Second, the higher the perceived level of product price, quality of access (accessibility) among the factors that consumers perceive as important factors in visiting traditional markets were heightened. Third, Mokpo residents are aware of the main important factors of visiting the market such as receiving a friendly atmosphere (image) about traditional market, market environment (hygiene and cleanliness), connection with the local economy, and customer service such as kindness, refund and return. These loyalty factors did not affect consumers' intention to revisit. In other words, image, environment, regional economic linkage, and these factors did not have a positive effect on revisit intention. Conclusions - The empirical analysis of this study suggests that factors that directly affect loyalty among the key factors that play a major role in visiting traditional markets should be identified and developed as loyalty factors. It is necessary to identify the key factors influencing the satisfaction and loyalty of traditional market users, and operate a system that systematically and comprehensively manages and evaluates them. In order to do this, the government, the local governments, and related organizations should regularly conduct loyalty and satisfaction surveys on visa recognition levels and establish strategies for dramatic improvement measures.

  • As the economy grows rapidly and the national income level increases, the service industry has become more important and its size gets larger. Especially, the food industry undertakes a continuing growth of consumer expenditures through no nationalization of food, consumers varying patterns of eating out, and individualization. However, it includes many problems with improving service quality towards customers owing to the absence of systems and philosophy to realize customer satisfaction management. Therefore, this study conducted a study with Korean traditional restaurant customers to measure their perceived service quality, to verify what factors most influence consumer satisfaction, and to suggest ways to meet the costumer needs by integrating the study results and developing high service quality.

  • As vehicle sharing service is being widely used in China. The sharing economy appeared to be a way to make people's lives more convenient and to utilize limited resources efficiently. Sharing economy companies have created an app to satisfy users' needs with providing more benefits. Although research on vehicle sharing services has been continuously conducted at the level of the sharing economy, there are not many empirical studies related to the perception of the sharing economy from the consumer's point of view. In this sense, this study considered the perceived relationship benefits (social benefits, economic benefits, psychological benefits, and functional benefits) of Didi chuxing service as the key independent variables influencing users' confirmation and satisfaction, And suggests that users' confirmation and satisfaction are the key determinants of Didi continuance intention . To test the proposed research model, this study conducted structural equation model using 268 data collected on the users who have experience of Didi service. According to the empirical analysis results, This study verifies that: First, social benefits, economic benefits, psychological benefits, and functional benefits are determinants of user's satisfaction. Second, expectation confirmation depends on economic benefits, psychological benefits, functional benefits and social influence, meanwhile, social benefit has no effect on expectation confirmation. Third, expectation confirmation is proved to be a positive predictor of users' satisfaction. Finally, this results indicate that continuous use intention is determined by users' satisfaction.

  • Recently a number of car sharing studies have been conducted that share vehicles from a consumer perspective. Meanwhile, Japan's MLIT had empirically implemented social experiment and policy for the installation of sharing car in order to make better use of the business forms and rapidly increasing car sharing associated with express bus as a new type of transaction from a sharing economy perspective. Therefore, this study examined the case of connecting with the express bus in Japan and analyzed and discussed the contents at the practical level. In addition, data collected for 229 car sharing users were verified empirically. The multiple liner regression analysis showed that three types of perceived values effect on the usage intention in the order of economic value, time value and psychology value. These findings suggest that car sharing users' perceived values are very important for increasing the degree of satisfaction with usage intention.

A self-administered survey questionnaire was collected from a total of 1,004 Seoul residents aged 30-59 years. The levels of perceived benefit, perceived barrier, and self-efficacy from health belief model and health behavior practices were measured across multiple health behavior areas including dietary behavior, drinking, smoking, exercise, functional food consumption, and weight control behavior. Factor analysis and subsequent cluster analysis based on 28 lifestyle questions divided the subjects into four lifestyles of society-, economy-, trend-, and health-oriented lifestyle. Some general characteristics were significantly different by lifestyles. The society-oriented lifestyle was significantly higher in proportions of men and overweight. The trend-oriented lifestyle was significantly younger and spent more monthly allowance. Health-oriented lifestyle was older. The levels of health belief variables and health behavior practices significantly differed by lifestyles. Overall the health-oriented lifestyle showed more desirable levels of health belief variables and health behavior practice in various health behavior areas compared to the other lifestyles, whereas the society-oriented lifestyle was found the other way. Health belief model variables including perceived benefit, perceived barrier, and self-efficacy were generally significant in predicting the levels of various health behavior practice, with somewhat differences by lifestyle pattern and health behavior type. The study findings suggest it may be useful to segment target subjects according to lifestyle pattern in planning and administering health education programs.

  • Receiving medical services abroad is an event that involves a high level of risk and stress for most people. This study proposes and empirically examines perceived control as a factor that has a potential to reduce the stress associated with overseas medical experience and enhance satisfaction with it. Based on the research findings in environmental psychology, one's perceived control was divided into cognitive control, behavior control, and decision control. A research model and a set of hypotheses were constructed to investigate the effect of each control on satisfaction and word-of-mouth communications among consumers who had overseas medical service experiences. The data collection was conducted through an online survey of 220 Chinese consumers who had visited Korea as plastic medicine tourists. Satisfaction with their service experience was significantly affected by both behavioral control and decisional control, but not by cognitive control. Thus, Chinese medical tourists prefer to maintain the belief that they are in charge of major decisions associated with the medical procedure, and that the results of the medical procedure will have personally desirable consequences. In addition, satisfaction experienced by Chinese consumers with overseas medical services had a significant impact on their word-of-mouth activities. Based on the research results, a set of academic and practical implications were derived.

  • In this study, a survey of online coupon user in their 20's and 30's was undertaken to explore how e-coupon attribute, perceived risk affect the intention to continuously use online coupons through mediation of online coupon user satisfaction. Four variables were used as E-coupon attribute variables(economy, amusement, reliability, usefulness) with coupon type and gender being used as moderating variables. The analysis results of relationship between e-coupon attributes, perceived risk and online coupon user satisfaction indicated that amusement, usefulness significantly affected online coupon user satisfaction, and this, in turn, significantly affected the intention to continuously use online coupons. In addition, the test of difference between groups in coupon type and gender, two moderating variables used in this study, found that with respect to coupon type, a moderating effect existed in reliability, usefulness whereas for gender, a moderating effect existed in only reliability. It is considered that this study will provide a credible evidence basis for Internet shopping malls in establishing a coupon promotion strategy including a specific promotional mix best suited to their needs and resources, while implicating that offering highly reliable online coupons will contribute to enhancing satisfaction level among customers using online coupons.
