  • This paper analyzed the peak stage of typhoons by using 10 years(2002~2011) data. The main purpose of this research is to provide the characteristic and tendency of peak stage of typhoons for navigators of ship. The research results show that typhoons of maximum wind speed 20~29m/ s and 40~49m/s account for 25% and 24% of whole typhoon, respectively. Ultra Typhoon of maximum wind speed 50m/ s and over accounts for 24% of whole typhoon. Peak stage mean arrival time from tropical depression and tropical storm are 3.6 days and 2.1 days, respectively. Duration time of peak stage is within 2 days and mean duration time of peak stage is 31hours. Latitudes and longitudes that mainly appears peak stage are at $15^{\circ}{\sim}25^{\circ}N$ and $120^{\circ}{\sim}140^{\circ}E$. This dangerous sea area has the oceanic environmental characteristic that Taiwan and Philippines are locate west side and a vast the North Pacific occupy east side. Navigators of ship in this dangerous sea area keep strict watch. Ultra Typhoons occur most frequently in September. Peak stage of Ultra Typhoon also appears at $15^{\circ}{\sim}25^{\circ}N$ and $120^{\circ}{\sim}140^{\circ}E$.

  • The objective of this study was to determine the best representative synthetic unit hydrograph that is applicable to ungaged small watershed. A typical unit hydrograph was established with the actual data from a small watershed. Four currently well-known methods for analyzing ungaged small watershed, including Snyder's, Clark's S.C.S. and Nash methods, were evaluated with the data from the same small watershed. The following observations were noted from the analysis of four methods. The Snyder's method yielded the similar peak discharge value as the typical unit hydrograph. With co-ordinates of three discharge values, i.e. 25%, 50% and 75% of peak discharge, were not adequate for deriving a typical unit hydrograph in ungaged small watershed. With Clark's method there shall be some way of obtaining the exact base length of time area diagram and isochrone of each reach of the stream. With Nash method peak discharge and base flow time are affected by the storage constant and gamma function argument; therefore, for deriving a more reliable and workable unit hydrograph one needs to select for the better estimation of storage constant and gamma function argument. In S.C.S. method peak discharge is directly related to the watershed area and inversely related to the time of peak diacharge. Therefore area with faster peak discharge yielded the higer peak discharge value. Although the peak discharge value obtained frome the S.C.S. method higher than the value obtained from the unit hydrograph developed from the actual data, this method contains a number of advantageous factors. The peak discharge value and the time of peak discharge can be claculated easity from the morphological characteristics of the watershed, and in S.C.S method co-ordinates of the unit hydrograph can be calculated easily from that of the dimensionless unit hydrograph. When the four currently used methods were evaluated with a typical unit hydrograph obtained from the actual data, the S.C.S method was show to be the best method in deriving a synthetic unit hydrograph for ungaged small watershed.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the electrochemical behavior and damage degree of metal surface under different conditions by performing a potentiodynamic polarization experiment using an electropolishing solution for UNS S31603 based on initial delay time and surface roughness (parameters). A second anodic peak occurred at initial delay time of 0s and 100s. However, it was not discovered at 1000s and 3600s. This research referred to an increase in current density due to hydrogen oxidation reaction among various hypotheses for the second anodic peak. After the experiment, both critical current density and corrosion current density decreased when the initial delay time (immersion time) was longer. As a result of surface analysis, characteristics of the potentiodynamic polarization behavior were similar with roughness, although the degree of damage was clearly different. With an increase in surface roughness value, the degree of surface damage was precisely observed. As such, electrochemical properties were different according to the immersion time in the electropolishing solution. To select electropolishing conditions such as applied current density, voltage, and immersion time, 1000s for initial delay time on the potentiodynamic polarization behavior was the most appropriate in this experiment.

  • In current NAND flash design, one of the most challenging issues is reducing peak current consumption (peak ICC), as it leads to peak power drop, which can cause malfunctions in NAND flash memory. This paper presents an efficient approach for reducing the peak ICC of the cache program in NAND flash memory - namely, a program Cache Busy Time (tPCBSY) control method. The proposed tPCBSY control method is based on the interesting observation that the array program current (ICC2) is mainly decided by the bit-line bias condition. In the proposed approach, when peak ICC2 becomes larger than a threshold value, which is determined by a cache loop number, cache data cannot be loaded to the cache buffer (CB). On the other hand, when peak ICC2 is smaller than the threshold level, cache data can be loaded to the CB. As a result, the peak ICC of the cache program is reduced by 32% at the least significant bit page and by 15% at the most significant bit page. In addition, the program throughput reaches 20 MB/s in multiplane cache program operation, without restrictions caused by a drop in peak power due to cache program operations in a solid-state drive.

  • RCM is used to clarify the complex phenomena of engine combustion. In order to describe engine combustion, several significant experimental studies are considered. Prediction of the peak pressure is very important since it has a significant influence on engine combustion. In addition, peak-temperature variation can be calculated from the measured peak pressure by using the fundamental thermodynamic relation. When the RCM is in operation, heat transfer occurs through the cylinder wall. Because of this phenomenon, it is difficult to determine the peak pressure without employing the case by case experimental method. The goal of this study is to evaluate the peak pressure analytically. We conduct an experiment to confirm the relationship between the peak pressure and some parameters. Using the results of the peak pressure variation experiment, we develop a general equation that be used to calculate the peak pressure as a function of operation time and compression ratio.

  • The first purpose was to identify the plantar pressure distributions (peak pressure, pressure integral time, and contact area) during level walking, and stair ascent and descent in asymptomatic flexible flatfoot (AFF). The second purpose was to investigate whether peak pressure data during level walking could be used to predict peak pressure during stair walking by identifying correlations between the peak pressures of level walking and stair walking. Twenty young adult subjects (8 males and 12 females, age $21.0{\pm}1.7$ years) with AFF were recruited. A distance greater than 10 mm in a navicular drop test was defined as flexible flatfoot. Each subject performed at least 10 steps during level walking, and stair ascent and descent. The plantar pressure distribution was measured in nine foot regions using a pressure measurement system. A two-way repeated analysis of variance was conducted to examine the differences in the three dependent variables with two within-subject factors (activity type and foot region). Linear regression analysis was conducted to predict peak pressure during stair walking using the peak pressure in the metatarsal regions during level walking. Significant interaction effects were observed between activity type and foot region for peak pressure (F=9.508, p<.001), pressure time integral (F=5.912, p=.003), and contact area (F=15.510, p<.001). The regression equations predicting peak pressure during stair walking accounted for variance in the range of 25.7% and 65.8%. The findings indicate that plantar pressures in AFF were influenced by both activity type and foot region. Furthermore the findings suggest that peak pressure data during level walking could be used to predict the peak pressure data during stair walking. These data collected for AFF can be useful for evaluating gait patterns and for predicting pressure data of flexible flatfoot subjects who have difficulty performing activities such as stair walking. Further studies should investigate plantar pressure distribution during various functional activities in symptomatic flexible flatfoot, and consider other predictors for regression analysis.

  • In this paper, we present the different characteristics of NDVI fluctuation pattern between irrigated and non-irrigated area in Suphanburi province, in Central Thailand. For non-irrigated rice cultivation area, there is a strong correlation between NDVI fluctuation and peak rainfall, while there is a lower correlation with irrigated area. In this study, the 'peak detector' classifier was developed to identify the area of non-irrigated and irrigated cropping and its cropping intensity (number of crops per year). This classifier was created based on cropping characteristics such as number of crops, time or planting period of each crop and its relationship with the peak of rainfall. The classified result showed good accuracy in identification irrigated and nonirrigated rice cultivation areas.

  • This study is carried out the analysis of the runoff characteristics for the design of the interior drainage systems by SWMM in urbanization basin. The basin analyzed in this study is Bumuh-chun basin which is located in Susung-gu of Taegu city. Huff method is used for rainfall distribution analysis. The optimal rainfall duration in Bumuh-chun basin is analyzed as about 90 minutes decided from comparison of arrival time and critical duration. Flood flow variation pattern is proposed through the comparison of the results of peak flow and peak time analyzed by SWMM about pre-urbanization and post-urbanization of Bumuh-chun basin. It is known that the variation of arrival time caused by the rapid increase of pavement rate in the upper area shows about 20∼25 minutes faster than pre- urbanization. Therefore, the management of surface water for design of water supply and drainage, and channel alteration has to considered the variation of geological factors according to urbanization.

  • This paper proposes speaker recognition algorithm which includes the pitch parameter for the peak and valley. The time-frequency hybrid method for pitch extraction is valuable in that it can improve resolution in the time domain and accuracy in the frequency domain at the same time. It makes reference pattern using membership function and performs vocal track recognition of common character using fuzzy pattern matching in order to include time variation width for non-linear utterance for proposed method, speaker recognition experiments are carried out using vowels and number sounds.

  • The ILLUDAS and SWMM models were applied to the developing area of Dongsucheon for comparisons of the total runoff, peak discharge and travel time. For this purpose, the present and future urbanization rates were assumed 70% and 90%, respectively. The runoff analysis of two models has been performed based on 10, 20, 30 and 50 return periods and Huff's 4 quantiles for time distribution pattern of design rainfalls. As results, the total runoff based on Huff's pattern had an decreasing order of 1, 4, 3 and 2 quantiles for both models. The SWMM model showed that there were 4.3% increasing of the total runoff, 4.9% increasing of peak discharge, and 6.6% decreasing of travel time. Similarly, for ILLUDAS model, there were 7.3% and 9.2% increasing of total runoff and peak discharge, respectively and 9.1% decreasing of travel time.
