  • This paper is for investigation of the noise reduction effect all 20 filters by combining Low Pass Filter(LPF) 5 kinds, High Pass Filter(HPF) 4 kinds, Median Filter(MF) 11 kinds. Noise is added to reduce noise and minimize the quality degradation in medical imaging system. We also compared Peak Signal to Noise Ratio(PSNR), Mean Square Error(MSE) for all the combinations of different filters. As a result, noise decrease appeared in the LPF3*3#1 + HPF3*3#1 + Vertical3*1 of highest filter. We confirmed noise reduction effect by applying the proposed filter combination in many fields of medical imaging applications.

  • In this paper, an aviation image fusion method is proposed for creating an informative fused image through gray scale images within noise. The proposed method is based on an adaptive guided filter which adjusts regulation parameter of the filter based on peak signal noise ratio (PSNR) in order to behave as an edge-preserving filtering property. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method preserves the edge information of the input image and reduces the noise effect while maintaining designed PSNR.

  • In image data, noise occurs due to various external factors in the process of obtaining and transmitting. There are various types of noise according to the cause and form and research to remove this noise is being continued. Therefore the study suggested a way to filter to restore images damaged by salt and pepper noise which preserves non-noise signal and processes noise signal by expanding mask size according to the local mask noise density. In addition, as an objective evaluation standard of improvements, the study used PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) to compare with previous methods.

  • In this paper, a method was proposed for objective and scientific judgment on disease conditions that is currently relied on subjective judgment of ultrasound practitioners. In the proposed method, mean squared errors (MSE) in ultrasound images for follow-up of HCC patients were obtained and the Peak Signal to Noise Ratio(PSNR) of the ultrasound images was analyzed. According to the results of analysis, MSE and PSNR values changed over time. This is attributable to changes in ultrasound images resulting from increases in utrasonic echoes following the progression of HCC. The results of the present study can be used as a method for scientific and objective judgment in ultrasonic scan instead of current subjective judgment by practitioners.

  • In this paper, we propose a PSNR(peak-to-peak signal to noise ratio) estimation method exploiting visual rhythm information for the reconstructed video frames at the customer's STB(Set-top Box). Key idea is that we can estimate the PSNR by using VR(visual rhythm) information even though a VR consists of the pixels in a vertical direction of a 2D(2-dimensional) video frame, because VR is the 1D projected version of a 2D video frame approximately. Simulation results show that the estimated PSNR from VR information is closely related to the PSNR from 2D video frames. The advantages of the proposed scheme includes that it can monitor the video quality efficiently while minimizing the computation load of STB, and show the location, duration and occurrence count of severe picture degradation.

  • Recently, the image system is utilized in several fields due to the development of multimedia technology. However, the noise occurs according to various causes in the process of image data processing. The noises added to the image include several types according to the cause and shape, and the salt and pepper noise is one of the typical noise types. Thus, this paper proposed the median filter algorithm using the estimated mask in order to remove the salt and pepper noise effectively and also compared this algorithm with the current methods using PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) as a criterion of judgment.

  • Recently, with the development of hardware and software technology related with image information delivery, the demand for various multimedia service has increased. But, the process of treating, sending, and storing image signals generates image degradation by various external causes. The main cause of image degradation is noise. image is mostly damaged by AWGN (additive white Gaussian noise). Therefore, there have been active researches on noise elimination. This paper, to reduce the effects of AWGN added to the image, suggests a noise-eliminating algorithm which is excellent in low-frequency and high-frequency characteristics in space. And, this paper, through simulation techniques, compared the result of the suggested algorithm with those of the existing methods. And, to evaluate the performance of it, PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio) was used.

  • This paper proposes an efficient motion compensation algorithm for video sequences with brightness variations. In the proposed algorithm, the brightness variation parameters are estimated and local motions are compensated. To detect the frame with large brightness variations, we employ the frame classification based on the cross entropy between histograms of two successive frames, which can reduce the computational redundancy. Simulation results show that the proposed method yields a higher peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) than that of the conventional methods, with a low computational load, when the video scene contains large brightness changes.

  • Image treatment has grown in its necessity in many fields due to the development of display technology used in smart phones and tablet computers. In digital imaging technology, noise is created by many causes during the process of acquiring, transmitting and treating image data. Therefore, this paper suggests a median filter that is more competent in removing noise by taking into account the direction when restoring noisy images that have been damaged by impulse noise. In order to verify the noise removal characteristics, PSNR(peak signal to noise ratio) was used for comparison against existing methods.

  • In this paper, we propose a digital watermarking method for still images, in which the human visual system (HVS) is used in the discrete cosine transform (DCT) domain. The modulation transfer function (MTF) of the HVS model is employed to increase the invisibility of the inserted watermark in images. The proposed watermarking method is shown to be robust to several common image processing techniques, including lowpass filtering and cropping. Also, using the energy relationship of the DCT, we derive the equation that directly computes the watermark weighting factor in the DCT domain for the specified peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) of the still image and the length of watermark to be inserted. The difference between desired PSNR and PSNR in spatial domain is within 0.07dB for the 7 test images.
