  • The present study investigated the hypophysial responsiveness in terms of GnRH induced LH and FSH release in cycling buffalo during the tropical summer and winter climatic conditions (seasons). Peripheral plasma LH and FSH levels were measured at 1 hour before and 6 hours subsequent to the administration of GnRH (1 ug/kg body weight) or saline on Day 14 of oestrous cycle in 2 groups of buffalo (n = 6 each) during summer and winter seasons. Although GnRH induced LH peak concentrations did not differ during the two seasons, time to attain LH peak concentration was shorter (p < 0.05) and the area under LH peak was 39% higher (p < 0.05) during winter season in comparison to summer season. However, season had no effect on GnRH induced peak FSH concentration, time to attain peak FSH concentration and the area under FSH peak. Pretreatment basal LH and FSH levels did not differ during the two seasons. The present study suggests that the summer season adversely affects the GnRH stimulated release of LH in buffalo.

  • The optical properties of ZnO thin film, being treated by O-plasma, have been studied using Photoluminescence(PL) spectroscopy with the change of temperature from 10 K to 290 K. Two characteristic peaks were identified at 10 K : 3.357 eV($D^{\circ}X$) and 3.324 eV(TES). The peak of $D^{\circ}X$ is believed to be due to neutral donor bound excitons where the donor is in the ground state. However, the TES(Two Electron Satellite) peak indicates the excited state of the donor(excitation energy was ~30 meV). The donor binding energy was estimated to be 44 meV, which indicates the possible presence of the neutral donor bound excitons at RT. The thermal effect including thermal broadening was identified from temperature evolution of the spectrum. Both the peak intensity and the peak energy have decreased as the temperature increases. As the temperature approaches to RT, the two peak merges into one broad peak, which is considered a combination of multiple peaks having different physical origins.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of calcaneal taping on peak plantar pressure of rearfoot and forefoot while walking. Methods: Fifteen healthy subjects with normal feet participated in this study. Inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) no disturbance of gait and foot pain, (2) normal range of motion of ankle joint, (3) no foot deformity. Pedoscan was used for recording of plantar pressure data during walking. The participants walked along a 12-m walkway before and after application of calcaneal taping. The plantar pressure gait was measured 3 times under barefoot and calcaneal taping conditions randomly at a speed practiced with the metronome during gait. The peak plantar pressure data were calculated for medial and lateral areas of the rearfoot and forefoot. The paired t-test was used to determine significant differences in peak plantar pressure of rearfoot and forefoot before and after application of calcaneal taping. A p-value less than 0.05 was accepted as significant. Results: The calcaneal taping resulted in statistically significant decreases in peak plantar pressure of the rearfoot (medial side: p=0.03; lateral side: p=0.01). However, there were no significant changes in peak plantar pressure of the forefoot (medial side: p=0.45; lateral side: p=0.40). Conclusion: The calcaneal taping is recommended to reduce plantar pressure of the rearfoot in weight-bearing activities in subjects with plantar heel pain caused by atrophy of the fat pad.

  • We studied the dielectric and dynamic mechanical losses according to the quenching condition in low density polyethylene being used to power cables. According to severe quenching condition, characteristics of the temperature in internal friction los peak have decreased the magnitude of loss peak as amorphous region lengthen. From now on, the frequency dependent characteristics of dielectric loss have investigated at room temperature, and the dielectric loss peak due to interface polarization, between crystal and amorphous region, occurs about 30[Hz], and that, the peak due to orientation polarization in correspondence to the loss peak in internal friction has observed at about 3 [MHz]. As quenching velocity increased, the effect on quenching condition about the dielectric loss has decreased the magnitude of the loss peak. Thus, estimation has been carried out on the activation energies nd the degree of crystallinity by means of X-ray diffraction are obtained as follows: room quenching : 26.4 [kal/mole] and 54.73 [%], ice quenching : 25.6 [kcal/mole] and 48.47 [%], liquid nitrogen quenching specimens : 22.56 [kcal/mole] and 40.95 [%].

  • This study is runoff analysis of the recently urbanized San Bon basin. The relationships between peak discharge and total discharge were examined by applying the ILLUDAS runoff analysis model to the measured data. In urbanized streams, it is found that channel adjustment had the most significant effect on the increase of peak discharge. Significant increases in the peak discharge occurred as rainfall duration or return period increases 10% and 7~16% increases in peak discharge were observed when the roughness coefficient were 0.04 and 0.015, respectively. When the natural river channel with n=0.04 was converted into a sewerage system of n=0.015 the peak discharge was greatly increased by 51~158%, Generally, flood peak discharge was increased during heavy rain, but in the case of urbanized basin, river stage was reduced owing to an increase of flow velocity by the adjustment of drainage system.

  • In this paper, Optimal operation plan through load analysis of industrial end-user is suggested. It calculated economic feasibility of ESS with detailed power lad analysis and conditions. Generally, if the latest maximum power is less than 30% of contracted power, it can not be peak shaving operation plan. and if the peak load level stays stead for 24 hours, it is difficult peak shaving for ESS. In addition to, When the peak load is occurred in summer or winter, a hybrid operation method combining the peak shaving plan and the time shift method is proposed. Therefore, When ESS is installed in industrial electrical customer, it is achieved best effect through the optimal operation plan.

  • This study generated flood time series of ungauged catchments in the Andongdam catchment using a distributed rainfall-runoff model and data generation method, and extracted the peak flows of 50 catchments to investigate the effect of rainfall spatial variability on peak flow simulation. The model performance statistics for three gauged catchments were reasonable for all events. The flood time series of the 50 catchments were generated using distributed and mean rainfall time series as input. The distribution of the peak flow using the mean rainfall was similar or slightly different to that using the distributed rainfall when the distribution of the distributed rainfall was nearly uniform. However, the distribution of the peak flow using the mean rainfall was reduced significantly compared to that using the distributed rainfall when actual storms moved to the top or bottom of the study catchment, or the rainfall was randomly distributed. These cases were 35% of total number events. Therefore, the spatial variability of rainfall should be considered for flood simulation. In addition, the power law relationship estimated using the peak flow of gauged catchments cannot be used for estimating the peak flow of ungauged independent catchments due to latter's significant variation of the peak flow magnitude.

  • Purpose : To analyze the serial changes of proton magnetic resonance (MR) spectra in the abscess and to determine the effect of the antibiotic treatment on the metabolite patterns. Materials and Methods : MR imaging and MR spectroscopy of an experimentally induced abscess were performed sequentially for four weeks at interval of one week in both the control group (n=5) and the antibiotic treatment group (n=5). On MR imaging, the shape and the size of the abscess were analyzed. On MR spectroscopy, the resonance peaks of metabolites were assigned on the basis of reported peaks in the literature. The metabolite ratios measured by using N-acetyl alanine as an external reference and by using lipid as an internal reference were compared in both the control and treatment g roups. Results : The abscesses were seen as cystic masses on MR imaging. On MR spectroscopy, the variable peaks of acetate, succinate and various amino acids, which are the metabolites of infection, were identified in the control and antibiotic treatment groups. The most frequent peak was that of acetate at 1.92ppm (70%). Both the peak ratios of acetate to lipid and acetate to external reference tended to decrease in the treatment group while the ratios did not change significantly in the control group. Conclusion : MR spectroscopy is useful not only for the diagnosis of abscess but also for monitoring the evolution of the abscess by using the acetate peak.

  • Actively growin Excherichia coli(KCTC 1039) cells were treated with paraquat (1, 1'-dimethyl-4, 4'-bipyridili-um dichloride) by cultivating them in the presence of 1.0mM paraquat. The treatment was carried out with or without shaking to understand the effect of oxygen on paraquat action to thebacterial superoxide dismutase (SOd). By the treatment with vigorous shaking , population growth of the organism almostly stopped and specific activities of SOD of the cells drastically decreased. On contrast ot it, the herbicide showed only l limited inhibitory action on bacterial growth and SOD activity by stationary treatment. Proteins prepared from parquat-treated cells divided into two peaks by Sephacryl column chormatogrpahy, while proteins from the intact cells formed a single peak. Cytoplasmic proteins and plasma membrane proteins of intact cells formed separated three peaks by Sephadex G-75 column chormatography. respectively. Among them the second peak disappeared by paraquat treatment , while the third peak became more apparent. Fractions from the first and the third peak showed SOD activity. Paraquat was detected from the same fractions.
