  • Ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) has recently been applied as an alternative to conventional concrete in construction due to its extremely high compressive and tensile strength, and enhanced durability. However, up to date, there has been insufficient information regarding the confinement behavior of UHPC columns. Therefore, this study aims to perform an assessment of axial stress-strain model for UHPC confined by circular steel tube stub columns. The equations for calculating the confined peak stress and its corresponding strain of confined concrete in existing models suggested by Johansson (2002), Sakino et al. (2004), Han et al. (2005), Hatzigeorgiou (2008) were modified based on the regression analysis of test results in Schneider (2006) in order to increase the prediction accuracy for the case of confined UHPC. Furthermore, a new axial stress-strain model for confined UHPC was developed. To examine the suitability of the modified models and the proposed model for confined UHPC, axial stress-strain curves derived from the proposed models were compared with those obtained from previous test results. After validating the proposed model, an extensive parametric study was undertaken to investigate the effects of diameter-to-thickness ratio, steel yield strength and concrete compressive strength on the complete axial stress-strain curves, the strength and strain enhancement of UHPC confined by circular steel tube stub columns.

  • High Frequency Peakers (HFPs) are radio-loud Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN), which are regarded as being in the earliest evolutionary phase (102-103 years) of radio galaxies. They are expected to be small in size (< ~1 kpc) compared to their host galaxies (~a few 10s kpc), and have convex spectra, which are peaking at high radio frequency (> 5 GHz). Their size and spectral shape are the most obvious supporting evidence of extremely young ages. HFPs are therefore ideal targets to probe the earliest stage of radio sources. To date however, the young radio source classification has been relying mainly on the spectral shape which usually does not cover high enough frequencies where the true peak flux is located. Hence HFPs are often confused with blazars which may show a similar spectral shape and apparent compactness but are a somewhat evolved form of AGNs. Therefore, we have been challenging to identify HFPs among the sample of 19 candidates using the Korean VLBI Network (KVN) which enables us to extend the radio spectrum baseline up to 22 and 43 GHz. These are higher than the frequencies used in most previous studies of HFPs, allowing us to select genuine HFPs. By long-term monitoring of 18 epochs, we have also inspected the variability of the sample to select out blazars which are highly variable yet with a similar radio spectrum. In this work, we present the light curves and spectral properties of the HFP candidates. We discuss the results of our re-identification of HFPs.

  • Studies on impact damage of composite laminate shells were fewer compared with those on impact behaviors to analyze time-load, displacement-load and impact energy - energy absorption. Up to date the studies were not enough to demonstrate suitability of their results because they were dependent on theories and numerical analyses. In particular, it is a well-known fact that there was a correlation between initial peak load and damage resistance of composite material flat plates imposed with low-speed impact, but studies on composite material shells with curvature were also very few. Actually structures such as wings or moving bodies of airplanes, motor cases and pressure containers of rockets are circular. And as low-speed impact load is imposed for optimal design of take-off and landing, and containers of airplanes, it is very important to analyze evaluation of behaviors and damaged areas. Therefore, in this paper to evaluate the impact characteristics of the CFRP laminate shell according to size of curvature quantitatively, it was to identify energy absorption and impact damage instruments according to change of impact speed.

  • In this paper we report new integration technology developed for three-dimensional metallic microstructures in an arbitrary shape. We have developed the two fabrication methods: Multi-Exposure and Single-Development (MESD) and Sacrificial Metallic Mold(SMM) techniques. Three-dimensional photoresist mold can be formed by the MESD method while unlimited number of structural levels can be realized by the SMM technique. Using these two techniques we have fabricated solenoid inductors and levitated spiral inductors for RF applications. We have achieved peak Q- factors over 40 in the 2-10㎓ range, the highest number among the inductors reported to date. Finally, we propose "On-Chip Passives" as a post IC process for monolithic integration of inductors, tunable capacitors, microwave switches, transmission lines, and mixers and filters toward future single-chip transceiver integration.

  • Modification of the diet during childhood and adolescence may be an effective strategy for maximizing the peak bone mass. Many supplementation studies have suggested a positive effect of the increased vitamin D intake on the bone mineral status in the elderly. However to date all studies have been conducted on old men and postmenopausal women. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of vitamin D supplementation on the bone mineral density and bone mineral content in growing rats. Twenty Sprague-Dawley female rats were divided into two groups; Control, and vitamin D supplementation. The bone mineral density(BMD) and bone mineral content(BMC) were measured using PIXImus in the spine and femur. Vitamin D supplementation did not affect the level of weight gain, mean food intake and food efficiency ratio. In addition, vitamin D supplementation had no added effect on the spine and femur BMD, and BMC. There were no significant differences in the spine BMD/weight and BMC/weight between the groups, but the spine BMD/weight and BMC/weight was 11 % higher in the vitamin D supplementation group. The femur BMD/weight and femur BMC/weight were significantly higher in the vitamin D supplementation group 9 weeks after the experiment. These results provide evidence of the beneficial effects of vitamin D supplementation on the BMD during the growth period.

  • Diffuse radio relics are often detected in merging galaxy clusters and are emitted by synchrotron process. Radio relics are believed to trace the shock waves in the intracluster medium induced by ram pressure during a major cluster merger. Radio halos and relics are found in approximately 50 galaxy clusters to date that are all in a state of merging. The rarest of these galaxy clusters contain pairs of relics of similar brightness as well as a radio halo. The massive galaxy cluster PLCKG287.0+32.9 belongs to this rare population and is the second most significant detection from the Planck SZ All-sky Survey. Perhaps even more intriguing is that the radio relics are observed at vastly different distances from the X-ray peak requiring a complex merging scenario. In this study, we use weak-lensing to peer deeper into the merging scenario by reconstructing the dark matter distribution. We relate the mass distribution to the radio, X-ray, and optical emissions to provide constraints for future simulations of the merger. Fitting an NFW profile to the tangential shear we infer the mass of the cluster and discuss its implications for the merging scenario.

  • In the future, satellite communication systems, such as ISDB in Japan and DVB in Europe, are required to support higher transmission date rate for providing multimedia services including HDTV, high rate data communication etc. Considering the effectiveness of OFDM technique in efficient usage of frequency bandwidth and its robustness to the multi-path fading, several OFDM based standards have been proposed for satellite communication. However, the problem of high Peak to Average Power Ratio is one of the main obstacles for the implementation of OFDM based system. Many PAPR reduction schemes have been proposed for OFDM systems. Among these, the partial transmit sequences (PTS) is attractive as they obtain better PAPR property by modifying OFDM signals without distortion. In this paper, considering the complexity issue, we present a simplified minimum maximum (minimax) criterion and Sub-Optimal PTS algorithm to optimize the phase factor. This algorithm can be dynamically made tradeoff`f between performance and complexity on demand. In addition, we integrate guided scrambling (GS) with this method. Simulation in multiple antenna based OFDM system proves that the proposed Hybrid schemes can get much more PAPR reduction and do not require transmission of side information (SI). Thus it is helpful when implementing OFDM technique in satellite communication system.

  • Silk has always been coveted as the finest and richest of all fibers woven into cloth. The earlist woven silk fragments found to date come from the third century B.C. The filament created and spun into cocoon by the larva of the silk moth, silk was exported from China to Europe from as early as the third century B.C. Silk industry is export leading industry that guide national textile industry development after the 1960s in Korea. Korean silk industry reached to peak at 1975 is displaying appearance that export scale is decreased recently. Various kinds methods can be proposed for high value added in silk industry, the research about color is essential. The importance of color is increasing in modern textile and fashion industry. Color is important factor of textile and fashion industry because color affects strong influence in human's sensitivity. Silk fabric can give high added value developing high sensitivity color because dye ability is superior. In this study I planned the "Utility Silk Color Code 288" for efficient color management in silk industry. "Utility Silk Color Code 288" are attached the Munsell notation and dyeing data which can reappear the color when needed. This research constructs for insufficient domestic color infrastruction and expect that basic role to develop the competitive power for Korean silk industry.
