  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM) is one of the most promising techniques for 4th generation communication systems. One of the main disadvantages of OFDM is the Peak to Average Power Ratio(PAPR). In this paper, a recoverable peak cancellation(RPC) technique that recovers the cancelled part for the peak-cancelled OFDM signal is introduced. Using the RPC technique, the bit error rate(BER) performance can be greatly improved and the efficiency of the PAPR reduction is nearly that of the clipping method, at a cost of slightly reducing the transmission data rate.

  • For the large scale of electricity consumer, since the price for the electricity consumption depends on the peak power, the issue for peak power reduction have been being studied widely. Electric railway systems, which is one of the most representative large scale of loads, also has assignment to reduce the peak power since they have high peak power and low energy consumption load characteristics. In the aspect of the economic operation through reduction of peak power, this paper proposes a novel algorithm for power management system in electric railway systems using energy storage.

  • A robust new algorithm for R wave detection named for Multiscale-based Peak Detection(MSPD) is assessed in this paper using MIT/BIH Arrhythmia Database. MSPD algorithm is based on a matrix composed of local maximum and find R peaks using result of standard deviation in the matrix. Furthermore, By reducing needless procedure of proposed algorithm, improve algorithm ability to detect R peak efficiently. And algorithm performance is assessed according to detection rates about various arrhythmia database.

  • Due to the increase of power consumption, it is difficult to construct an accurate prediction model for daily peak power demand. It is very important work to know power demand in next day to manage and control power system. In this research, we develop a daily peak power demand prediction method based on Extreme Learning Machine(ELM) with fast learning procedure. Using data sets between 2006 and 2010 in Korea, the proposed method has been intensively tested. As the prediction results, we confirm that the proposed method makes it possible to effective estimate daily peak power demand than conventional methods.

  • We proposed a series connection-type superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) using E-I core that can prevent the internal magnetic flux generation of cores during normal operation, and prevent the saturation of cores due to a sudden magnetic flux generation at the initial stage of fault occurrence while limiting the peak current. Through a short-circuit simulation experiment, we analyzed the operating status of the two superconducting elements and limiting characteristics according to the size of the fault current peak before and after the failure. Further, the double peak current limiting characteristics according to the winding directions as well as the current and the voltage of each coil were compared and analyzed.

  • The utility grid has a supply of electric energy which is larger than the usually required power consumption under peak load condition. So, power distribution is required to have a heavy capacity because of peak-load period. To solve the problem, this paper proposes a 10kW rapid charger system which has a function of load compensation at the peak-load condition. The proposed system supplies power demanded by peak-load through transferring energy in the battery of electric vehicle to the grid. V2G operation is verified through simulation performed by 10kW rapid-charger.

  • Recently current mode control is widely adopted in switching power converter because of inherent stablity and ability of parallel operating. There are several ways in current mode control. One of them, peak current control is chiefly employed. Peak current mode control converter usually senses and controls peak inductor current. But there is peak-to-average current errors. Therefore peak current control needs compensation ramp correcting the errors. Average current mode control eliminates these problems, and is constructed by simple structures. This paper will describe the behavior of a simple average current mode boost converter and introduce the design techniques.

  • Demand response provides customer load reductions based on high market prices or system reliability conditions. One type of demand response, price-based program, induces customers to respond to changes in product rates. However, there are large-scale general and industrial customers that have difficulty changing their energy consumption patterns, even with rate changes, due to their electricity demands being commercial and industrial. This study proposes an in-house pricing model for large-scale general and industrial customers, particularly those with multiple business facilities, for self-regulating demand-side management and cost reduction. The in-house pricing model charges higher rates to customers with lower load factors by employing peak to off-peak ratios in order to reduce maximum demand at each facility. The proposed scheme has been applied to real world and its benefits are demonstrated through an example.

  • In this paper, the peak detection algorithm was developed for the purpose of screening of the target compounds. Algorithm is divided into searching the characteristic ion and peak detection. The heuristic knowledge about analytical chemistry was applied for the searching the characteristic ion. Peak detection was accomplished in comparison with the peak identification strings and pattern strings around the retention time. Pattern strings are composed with the number which generated by pattern identification function. The variables of pattern identification function are the codes which represent the difference of two adjacent abundances Some of the free steroids were selected to demonstrate the proposed algorithm.

  • In order to apply the Sievert's type automatic apparatus to thermal analysis of hydrogen absorbing materials, the dehydrogenation of the Mg-H system was investigated. As the initial wt% of hydrogen was increased to 4.4, the peak temperature of evolution rate shifted to higher temperature. However, with the initial wt% of hydrogen higher than 4.4, peak temperature of evolution rate did not change. The peak temperatures of evolution rate obtained by automatic apparatus were almost the same as those measured by a manual apparatus. As the heating rate was increased, the peak temperatures increased; the peak temperatures for heating rates 1, 2 and 3 K/min were 664, 687 and 702 K, respectively. The activation energy for the decomposition of Mg hydride was 101 kJ/mol. The Sievert's type automatic apparatus can be successively applied to the thermal analysis of metal hydride.
