Environmental assessment of a BIPV system

  • The application of Photovoltaic (PV) power in the building sector, is expanding as part of the ongoing energy transition into renewables. The article addresses the question of sustainability of energy generated from PVs through an environmental assessment of a building-integrated PV system (BIPV) connected to the grid through net metering. Employing retrospective life cycle analysis (LCA), with the CCaLC2 software and ecoinvent data, the article shows that the carrying structure and other balance of system (BOS) components are responsible for a three times higher energy payback time than the literature average. However, total environmental impact can be lowered through reuse or reinstallation of PVs on the same building structure after the 30-year interval. Further ways to improve environmental efficiency include identifying the most polluting materials for each LCA parameter. The results of this study are of interest to researchers and producers of PVs and organizations investing and promoting decentralized power production through PVs.

  • This paper discusses the optimal sizes of BESS. The goal must be optimized electricity charge of the customers-side with choosing the time-of-use rates. Therefore the cost is minimized by BESS installed the customers-side. Feasible ROR that means the ratio of capital costs to economic effect owned the optimal BESS sizes is determined the suitable domestic condition based on the battery cost and power converter system cost. Payback period times can be presented by BESS through the ROR. Multi-Pass Dynamic Programming(MPDP) algorithm is applied to the customer for the optimal sizes determination in this paper. It is to solve the optimal solution under the constraints. To investigate the efficiencies of the constraints, it is applied the typical load curve to the high-voltage customer owned Time-Of-Use(TOU) whether BESS is installed or not. Well, The result is obtained that feasible BESS sizes can be achieved the suitable customers-side of meter through the ROR.

Techno-economic design of a grid-tied Photovoltaic system for a residential building

  • Increasing cost of electricity due to rising price of fuel is one of the local community's main issues. In this research, switching of grid dependent system to the grid-tied Photovoltaic (PV) system with net metering for a residential building is proposed. The system is designed by considering the maximum energy demand of the building. The designed system is analyzed using RETScreen on technical, economic and environmental grounds. It is found that the system is able to produce 12,000 kWh/year. The system is capable to fulfill the electricity demand of the building during day time and is also capable to sell the energy to the local grid causing the electric meter to run in reverse direction. During night time, electricity will be purchased from grid, and electric meter will run in the forward direction. The system is economically justified with a payback period of only 3 years with net present value of PKR. 4,758,132. Also, the system is able to reduce 7.2 tons of CO2 not produced in the entire life of the project.

바이오에너지의 탄소부채 최소화를 위한 수학적 계획법 (A Mathematical Programming Method for Minimization of Carbon Debt of Bioenergy)

  • 바이오에너지는 탄소중립을 추구하는 방안 중 하나로 간주되고 있다. 그러나 수확된 식물 바이오매스를 연소하면 필연적으로 대기 중 이산화탄소는 일정기간 동안 화석을 연소할 때보다 더 많아진다. 본 논문에서는 이 탄소부채의 총량과 상환기간을 예측하고 최소화하는 방법을 제안한다. 사례연구로는 현재 사용되고 있는 화석연료를 바이오매스로 일시에 전환할 경우에 대한 탄소순환 영향평가를 수행한다. 이를 통해 탄소중립 개념의 근본적인 취약성을 지적한다. 바이오에너지의 지속가능성을 위한 실행방안으로는 숲 면적 감소분에 비례하는 추가식림 및 숲 질량 증가분에 비례하는 추가수확 공식을 제안하였다. 최적화 결과, 탄소부채 상환기간은 약 70년, 대기 중 이산화탄소는 최대 50% 이상, 정상상태에서 3% 증가가 예상된다. 이는 이론적으로 예측한 최상의 결과이며 실제로는 이보다 나쁠 것으로 추정된다. 따라서 바이오매스는 진정으로 탄소 중립적이지 않으며, 화석연료의 대체에너지원으로서 부적합하다. 본 연구에서 제안된 방법은 이미 사용 중인 바이오에너지의 현재 및 미래 탄소부채 최소화를 통해 탄소중립으로의 접근에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

대단위 아파트에서 특고압 배전시스템의 경제성 평가 (The Simplified Economic Evaluation of Extra-High Voltage Distribution System in the Large Apartment Complex)

  • 요즈음과 같은 고유가 시대에 대두되고 있는 분야인 에너지 절감과 관련하여, 본 논문에서는 대단위 전력 수용가 내부의 저압배전 시스템을 특고압으로 변경할 때의 전기에너지의 손실절감에 대해 논하였다. 현재 대수용가에서는 특고압을 수전하여 저압으로 강압하여 각 부하에 전압선로로 전력을 공급하는데, 그 대신에 본 논문에서는 수전한 특고압을 수용가내의 개별 부하 근방까지 직접 가져오고 여기서 저압으로 변환하여 짧은 거리에 위치한 부하들에 전력을 공급할 때 소요되는 대략적인 설비비, 공사비의 증가금액과 선로의 전력손실 감소에 의한 절감 금액을 계산하였다. 또한 초기투자비의 회수 기간을 산정함으로 특고압 배전시스템의 경제성에 대하여 간략히 평가하였다.

  • For an effective application of the cogeneration system for commercial and industrial buildings, we need to develop a relevant model to determine the long-term based optimal sizing of the cogeneration system considering electrical and thermal load demands, buy and sell contracts with electric utility and the annual production cost. In assessing the optimal sizing of cogeneration, we have to consider both economic parameters and their capacity expansion for the increased electrical and thermals demand in the future. In this paper, we propose a mathematical model for the optimal sizing of cogeneration systems considering annual production costs and other economic parameter such as, lifetime of the equipment, time value of the capital, etc. In the case study, we thoroughly examine the effects of the economic parameters and determine the optimal size of the sample system. In addition, we calculate the payback period of the cogeneration investment.

마이크로웨이브 센서를 이용한 에너지 절약시스템 개발 (Development of Energy Saving System Using the Microwave Sensor)

  • Because of directly receiving the thing in which a microwave is reflected and comparing the frequency, the microwave sensor with doppler effect completely overcomes the problem of the passive infrared sensor. The microwave sensor with doppler effect well operates about a temperature, the dust, and the peripheral noise because of being dull in the most of ambient conditions. The system developed in this research is the electricity saving detection sensor which it senses the real time action of a man as the microwave sensor and automatically turns on the electric lamp and turns off, minimizes the electrical energy consumption. Since the microwave sensor is not influenced in the light, the dust, and the natural element like the ambient temperature, the effectiveness is considered to be superior to the passive infrared sensor being used currently. There was the energy reduction effect more than about 60% in the performed example which established this system. When this was compared with the construction cost, the cost of establishing payback period was about 1-1.5 year. The microwave sensor with doppler effect developed from this research result is convinced in the future to do enough for the electric energy saving.

전력소비자 수요관리용 전지전력저장시스템의 적정 가격 산정 (Estimation of Reasonable Price of Battery Energy Storage System for Electricity Customers Demand Management)

  • The paper estimated the reasonable market price of lead-acid battery energy storage system (BESS) intended for demand management of electricity customers. As time-of-use (TOU) tariffs have extended to a larger number of customers and gaps in the peak and off-peak rates have gradually risen, deployment of BESS has been highly needed. However, immature engineering techniques, lack of field experiences and high initial investment cost have been barriers to opening up ESS markets. This paper assessed electricity cost that BESS operation could save for customers and, based on the possible cost savings, estimated reasonable prices at which BESSs could become a more prospective option for demand management of customers. Battery scheduling was optimized to maximize the electricity cost savings that BESS would possibly achieve under TOU tariffs conditions. Basic economic factors such as payback period and return on investment were calculated to determine reasonable market prices. Actual load data of 12 industrial customers were used for case studies.

직접석탄액화 공정의 경제성 평가 (Economic Evaluations of Direct Coal Liquefaction Processes)

  • 석유를 대체할 수 있는 현실적 대안으로 주목받고 있는 직접석탄액화(direct coal liquefaction, DCL) 공정의 경제성을 평가하고자하였다. 이때 역청탄을 이용하여 주요 제품(디젤, 나프타) 생산량 50,000 bbl/day의 규모에 대하여 각 공정에 적합한 검토기준을 세워 비용 및 매출액등을 산정하였다. 또한 각 공정별 민감도 분석을 실시하여 공정에 대한 중요 변수들의 가격 변동에 따른 경제성을 평가하였다. 본 생산량을 기준으로 Illinois #6 유연탄을 원료탄으로 사용하였을 때, 총 투자액은 $3,994,858,000로 나타났다. 내부수익률(internal rate of return, IRR)의 경우, 기본조건에서 각각 6.60%로 나타났으며, 원료석탄 가격과 생산 제품 판매가에 가장 크게 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 원금상환 기간은 12.8년으로 긴 시간을 요구하며, 이는 현재의 고석탄가 때문으로 해석된다. 또한 민감도 분석 결과 제품가격, 원료석탄 가격, 건설비의 변동률 순서로 수익률에 변화를 주는 것으로 나타났다.

GHG를 고려한 수소연료전지 자동차의 경제성 분석 (An Economic Feasibility Analysis of a Hydrogen Fuel-Cell Vehicle Considering GHG)

  • This paper deals with the economic feasibility model and analysis of a hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle [FCV] against two similar types of non-business vehicles fueled with gasoline [GV] and diesel [DV] considering greenhouse gas [GHG]. Considering the price of vehicles and annual operating cost, we build a classical economic feasibility model. Since the economic feasibility could be affected by many input factors such as the prices of vehicles, the price of fuels, annual driving distance and so on, we estimate the average future values of input factors, which is defined as "the average case". Based on the average case, we assess the representative economic feasibility of a FCV with/without GHG, and by changing various annual driving distances, we assess its economy in terms of net-present value, internal rate of return, and payback period. In addition, we make some sensitivity analysis of its economic feasibility by changing the values of the critical input factors one at time. Based on the average case, it turns out that the consumer of a FCV could save 25,000 won/year for a GV, but the consumer could pay 120,000 won/year more for a DV. This indicates that gasoline vehicles could be replaced gradually by FCVs in Korean market which might be formed by those consumers driving annually more than approximately 14,800 km. As the results of our sensitivity analysis, it turns out that a FCV is no more economical if the difference of the prices between FCV and GV is more than 10,130,000 won or the price of hydrogen fuel could be more than 5,136 won/kg.
