  • In this paper, a modified fixed-delay tree search with decision feedback(FDTS/DF) for compensation of non-linear distortion in digital magnetic recording channels is discussed. Since the nonlinear distortion, which becomes significant as recording density increases, is generally well modeled by the discrete Volterra series, the proposed equlizer is composed of a nolinear feedforward filter, a linear feedback filter, and a nonlinear distorton table, the values of which are determined by considering the effect of nonlinear distortion due to future data as well as the previous and current one. At the decision stage of FDTS, a path minimizing the branch metric is chosen by using the previously detected values, current predicted value, and future predicted value. We compare the performance of the linear FDTS/DF, the previous nonlinear FDTS/DF, and the proposed nonlinear FDTS/DF by computer simulation, and confirm that the proposed one chieves the best performance at high-density recording.

  • In the microcell or picocell-based system the frequent movements of mobiles bring about excessive traffics Into the networks. A mobile location estimation mechanism can facilitate both efficient resource allocation and better QoS provisioning through handoff optimization. Existing location estimation schemes consider only LOS model and have poor performance in presence of multi-path and shadowing. In this paper we study multi-criteria decision making which can increase estimation accuracy by considering other multiple decision parameters than the received signal strength.

  • ETRI's Co-Pilot project is aimed at the development of an automated vehicle that cooperates with a driver and interacts with other vehicles on the road while obeying traffic rules without collisions. This paper presents a core block within the Co-Pilot system; the block is named "Co-Pilot agent" and consists of several main modules, such as road map generation, decision-making, and trajectory generation. The road map generation builds road map data to provide enhanced and detailed map data. The decision-making, designed to serve situation assessment and behavior planning, evaluates a collision risk of traffic situations and determines maneuvers to follow a global path as well as to avoid collisions. The trajectory generation generates a trajectory to achieve the given maneuver by the decision-making module. The system is implemented in an open-source robot operating system to provide a reusable, hardware-independent software platform; it is then tested on a closed road with other vehicles in several scenarios similar to real road environments to verify that it works properly for cooperative driving with a driver and automated driving.

  • The study aims to identify Service Quality factors that affect purchase decision on Click and Collect service through the mediating variable of customer emotions at Mobile World stores in Ho Chi Minh City. This study employs a mixed methods research design. Data were collected through online self-completion questionnaire distributed to 316 customers who used to experience Click and Collect service at the Mobile World stores in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The theoretical model was tested through two-stage regression analysis (PATH model). The findings show that factors of service quality such as Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance, Empathy, Tangibility, and Emotions affect the decision to purchase online and receive products directly at Mobile World stores in Ho Chi Minh City. Responsiveness and Assurance have a significant positive impact on the customer's emotions. Consequently, these factors should be considered and addressed when conducting multi-channel services. Obviously, employees must first be trained to be able to deliver the promise of the retailer to their customers. Based on the results of the study, the authors provide managerial implications for retailers in Vietnam in the multi-channel retail environment to develop Click and Collect at retail stores across the country and the world.

  • The study seeks to identify the factors affecting the green marketing element of students' food purchasing decision at Co-opMart supermarket chain in Ho Chi Minh City through the application of a mix of qualitative and quantitative research methods that include probability sampling and convenient sampling of 400 students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH). The data are analyzed with SPSS software using Cronbach's Alpha, Exploratory Factor Analysis, Multiple Linear Regression and PATH model to test the model through the intermediate variable 'student's perception' and the hypotheses, identifying the green marketing effects on HUTECH students' food purchasing decisions at Ho Chi Minh City Co-opMart supermarket chain. The results of the study identify four factors of the green marketing mix (4Cs), namely, green commodity, green cost, green convenience, and green communication. All these factors have an influence on the student's food purchasing decision at Co-opMart supermarket. Cost is the strongest factor eliciting student's interest in purchasing green products, followed by convenience, then communication. Commodity has the least impact on green purchasing decision. This study proposes some feasible solutions for Co-opMart managers to attract more students using green food in the complex situation of contaminated food, which is extremely harmful to consumers' health.

  • Women entrepreneurs play a vital role in employment creation, economic development, and growth. Women entrepreneurship is deep-rooted in the social and cultural norms and values of society. Women's entrepreneurship contribution is still invisible and needs to be properly investigated. The current research study explores "how institutions affect women's entrepreneurial performance in Pakistan" by using institutional and social cognitive theories. Focusing on the Formal and informal institutions, this research examines how institutions are affecting women's entrepreneurial performance by taking the mediating role of women's entrepreneurial self-efficacy and ethical decision making. A 7-point Likert scale research questionnaire is used to collect primary data. Data on active entrepreneurs are collected from the Peshawar, Mardan, and Abbottabad divisions of KPK's Women Chambers of Commerce. The data is empirically tested through the path analysis technique of structural equation modeling (SEM) through SMART PLS 3. The results indicated that women's entrepreneurial self-efficacy and ethical decision-making strongly mediate both institutions and significantly affect women's entrepreneurial performance. The study suggests that government and concerned departments should pay due attention to determinants like informal institutions and social constraints to boost women's entrepreneurial performance.

  • Wireless body area network (WBAN) is a promising candidate for future health monitoring system. Nevertheless, the path to mature solutions is still facing a lot of challenges that need to be overcome. Energy efficient scheduling is one of these challenges given the scarcity of available energy of biosensors and the lack of portability. Therefore, researchers from academia, industry and health sectors are working together to realize practical solutions for these challenges. The main difficulty in WBAN is the uncertainty in the state of the monitored system. Intelligent learning approaches such as a Markov Decision Process (MDP) were proposed to tackle this issue. A Markov Decision Process (MDP) is a form of Markov Chain in which the transition matrix depends on the action taken by the decision maker (agent) at each time step. The agent receives a reward, which depends on the action and the state. The goal is to find a function, called a policy, which specifies which action to take in each state, so as to maximize some utility functions (e.g., the mean or expected discounted sum) of the sequence of rewards. A partially Observable Markov Decision Processes (POMDP) is a generalization of Markov decision processes that allows for the incomplete information regarding the state of the system. In this case, the state is not visible to the agent. This has many applications in operations research and artificial intelligence. Due to incomplete knowledge of the system, this uncertainty makes formulating and solving POMDP models mathematically complex and computationally expensive. Limited progress has been made in terms of applying POMPD to real applications. In this paper, we surveyed the existing methods and algorithms for solving POMDP in the general domain and in particular in Wireless body area network (WBAN). In addition, the papers discussed recent real implementation of POMDP on practical problems of WBAN. We believe that this work will provide valuable insights for the newcomers who would like to pursue related research in the domain of WBAN.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine how the causal relationships between independent variables, marital communication decision making participation and family life satisfaction of elderly in couple household. The survey was conducted from May 26 to July 21, 2003. Total 394(male: 186, female: 208) samples were used for the analysis. Using SPSS/PC WIN program, data were analyzed by frequencies, percentages, mean, standard deviation, Cronbach'a, Pearson's correlation, t-test, and multiple regression. The major findings were as follows: 1) The findings showed that there were high level of the communication between the elderly males and females. In the decision making participation the finding showed that both elderly males and females generally made joint decisions with no gender differences. The elderly males and females reported overall family life satisfaction; and the elderly males were more likely satisfied with their family lives than the elderly females. 2) The path analysis on family life satisfaction presented that several variables had direct/indirect effects on family life satisfaction through communication and decision making participation. Among the moderate variables, communication agreement and communication openness had significant effects on family life satisfaction. Specifically, the elderly men were more likely satisfied when they participated in decision making on leisure: the elderly women were more likely satisfied when they participated in decision making on family life.

  • The unicasting routing technology of VANET is very important for user convenience. Unicasting packets must be forwarded to the appropriate path in order to arrive to the destination. However, there are so many problems because the vehicle nodes have limited information related to the routing decision. In particular, packet delivery failure will be occurred by selecting the path already failed again. We call this problem as 'Failed Path Re-Selection Problem'. In this paper, we propose an enhanced rerouting function of VANET Routing. The proposed rerouting function uses the failed path information when rerouting function executed. For this rerouting function, failed path information will be stored in the packet whenever the routing fail occurred. By the comparison with the performance of legacy VANET routing function, the superiority of the proposed method can be seen.

  • This paper proposes a control path analysis mechanism to be used in the workflow mining framework maximizing the workflow traceability and re discoverability by analyzing the total sequences of the control path perspective of a workflow model and by rediscovering their runtime enactment history from the workflow log information. The mechanism has two components One is to generate the total sequences of the control paths from a workflow mode by transforming it to a control path decision tree, and the other is to rediscover the runtime enactment history of each control path out of the total sequences from the corresponding workflow's execution logs. Eventually, these rediscovered knowledge and execution history of a workflow model make up a control path oriented intelligence of the workflow model. which ought to be an essential ingredient for maintaining and reengineering the qualify of the workflow model. Based upon the workflow intelligence, it is possible for the workflow model to be gradually refined and finally maximize its qualify by repeatedly redesigning and reengineering during its whole life long time period.
