내설악 전나무 자연림 조사를 통한 고전천이론과 임분동태학에 관한 고찰 - Patch Dynamic과 임분 구조를 중점으로 - (Classic Successional Theory and Stand Dynamics Studies on Fir Stand of Natural Forests in Naesorak Mt. - Focused on Patch Dynamics and Structure -)

  • 내설악 전나무림 현황을 조사하고 이를 통하여 산림 생태계 이해방식을 비판적으로 고찰하였다. 조사는 1996년부터 2006년까지 수행된 것으로 일종의 중간보고서로 작성하였다. 임분의 수직구조 위주로 조사하였으며 비록 내설악 전나무림에 한정된 것이기는 하나 고전 천이론 보다는 Stand dynamic이 산림생태계를 설명하는데 적합하다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • 본 논문은 좁은 폭이지만 장거리에 걸쳐있는 지상목적물 (15m 폭에 400km길이)에 대한 새로운 원격탐사 및 GIS기법의 개발을 보고한다 (송유관건설로 파괴된 식생의 복원실태를 모니터링하고자). 비디오는 visual 또는 quantitative해석방식에서 신뢰할만한 정확도를 가지고 복원된 주요식생군락을 분별해냈다. 또한 GIS환경에서 digital change-detection 기법을 통해 복원된 식생의 공간적인 patch dynamics의 분포실태를 평가하는 도구로서 비디오가 아주 유용하게 사용될 수 있음을 보여주었다. 본 연구의 결론은 비디오선형지도화가 송유관선로의 환경감시를 위해 현실운용이 가능한 기술이다는 것이며. 여타의 선형목적물에 대한 환경감시를 위해서도 효율적으로 사용될 수 있음을 보여준다.

도시공원의 경관생태학적 분석-패취의 형태지수와 분산도 분석을 중심으로- (Landscape ecological analysis of urban parks -analysis of index of patch shape and the dispersion of patches-)

  • Urban parks, as remnant patches, of two older cities and two new towns can be analyzed by a landscape ecological approach. The index of patch shape, the dispersion of patches, the mean edge length, and the mean patch size of parks of each city are ocmpared. The findings of this study are as follows : 1) The mean edge length of urban parks of older cities is longer than that of new towns : Seoul>Suwon>Bundang>Ansan. 2) The mean patch size of urban parks in Seoul is much greater than those of other cities : Seoul> Ansan>Suwon>Bundang. 3) The index of patch shape of urban parks of older cities is greater than that of new towns : Seoul>Suwon>BundangAnsan. 4) The dispersion of patches is in the order of Bundang >Ansan>Seoul>Suwon. The new towns have relatively even distributions of urban parks than older cities. Further research is required to find out the relationship between the index of patch shape and patch interior dynamics.

골프장 한국잔디의 Rhizoctonia solani AG2-2에 의한 Large Patch 발생 토양에서 근권 미생물과 무기영양 평가 (Soil Mineral Nutrients and Microbes Are Responsible for Large Patch Disease Caused by Rhizoctonia solani AG2-2 in Zoysiagrass Turf)

  • 골프장의 한국 잔디에서 Rhizoctonia solani AG2-2에 의해 발생되는 large patch의 근권토양과 건전 잔디의 근귄 토양 샘플을 hole cutter (diameter $10\;cm\;{\times}\;8\;cm$ deep)을 이용하여 샘플을 채취하여 무기성분과 미생물을 조사하였다. Large patch와 건전 잔디의 분산분석 결과 $NO_3$-N(P=0.05), NH4-N(P=0.1) 및 K(P=0.1) 함량에서 중요한 유의차이를 보였다. Large patch가 발생한 토양에 $NO_3$-N 함량은 9.49 mg/kg로 건전한 잔디의 토양 7.02 mg/kg 보다 높았다. 반면, $NH_4$-N의 함량은 large patch 발생한 토양이 12.02 mg/kg으로 건전한 잔디의 근권 토양 14.40 mg/kg 보다 높았다. K 함량은 large patch 토양이 건전한 잔디의 토양보다 낮았다. 근권 토양의 미생물 집락 수를 조사하여 분산 분석한 결과 Pseudomonas spp 집락 수에서 중요한 유의차이(P=0.05)를 보였다. Large patch가 발생한 토양에 미생물의 집락 수가 건전한 잔디의 토양에 비하여 낮았다. 이들 결과는 근권 토양에 과다한 $NO_3$-N, $NH_4$-N 및 K 함량과 토양미생물의 밀도는 large patch 발병과 관련 이 있을 수 있다고 사료된다.

Landscape Ecological Studies on Structure and Dynamics of Plant Populations on Vegetation-Landscape Patterns in Rural Regions: I. The Effect of Patch Shape on the Initial Population Structure of Pine and Oaks

  • Secondary vegetation. the holistically integrated system of nature and human being, is the complicated ecosystem that is composed of natural and man-created factors. Understanding the ecological function of secondary vegetation supplies us many important informations for sustainable landscape management and ecological restoration planning. In this research, we tried to examine the shape effect of vegetation patch on early structure of populations of pine and oaks. Moreover. we also tried to clarify the ecological functions of patch edge by exploring the patch effect on germination using patch index. In addition, we present the landscape structure of man -made vegetation of our study area, and setting experimental design of research. Vegetation landscape of study area is typical human disturbed landscape mainly composed of disturbance patches. Vegetation types of graveyard and managed pine forest were controlled by periodically repeated management. However, current seedlings of pine occurred well at both vegetation types. Presence of both saplings were more controlled in managed pine forest (PDM) and graveyard (G) than those of undergrowth (PD) and forest edge (FE) with canopy trees. The number of pine seedlings increased with patch size and patch perimeter. That of oak seedlings was, however, not significantly different. Larger graveyards provided higher light availability for germination of pine seedlings. We think, however, most seedlings of both species in the large sized graveyards without shade will die more easily than that of small sized ones before rainy summer. Relationships between patch shape and germination of two woody species cannot be exactly explained enough yet in these results. More informations on spatial interaction of the total species with differently sized patches are necessary to solve the concept of patch effect on species colonization.

Population Dynamics of Pinus densiflora for. erecta at Sokwang-Ri, Uljin-Gun in Southeastern Korea

  • Population dynamics of the oldest relic stand of Pinus densiflora for. erecta which remains as a status of patch in Sokwang-Ri area, Uljin-Gun, was studied to provide the basic data for conservation of the oldest pine stand in Korea. The upper slope site and ridge site including total 12 plots mainly represented Pinus densiflora for. erecta and Quercus mongolica. These two tree species showed reverse J-shaped distribution. From this information, it was concluded that intensive interspecific competition between two species could be occurring. Age distribution of P. densiflora for. erecta on the sites above middle slope area was indicated bi-modal type or tri-modal type which was known as an age structure of climax forest. Therefore, it was estimated that Pinus densiflora for. erecta population could be continuously maintained in the each patch above middle slope area. In the valley sites, hardwood species such as Q. mongolica, Q. variabilis, Styrax obassia and Acer pseudosieboldianum occupied most part of the under crown-cover area and their seedlings and saplings were developing into the closed upper layer crown because the height of upper layer crown reached about 35 meters and such a high crown height was more suitable for light utilization by plants of under layer. The growth patterns were mainly fluctuated for the entire life time of the oldest tree caused by frequent disturbance. And the initial growth curves of the mature trees and suppressed juvenile trees showed different tendencies along the sites.

Energy harvesting using an aerodynamic blade element at resonant frequency with air excitation

  • In this research, we propose an energy harvesting structure with a flexible blade element vibrating at its first mode to maximize the power output of the piezoelectric material. For this purpose, a piezoelectric patch was attached on the blade element used in a small-scale wind turbine, and air load was applied with a suitable angle of attack in the stall zone. The aerodynamic load created by air excitation vibrates the blade element in its first natural frequency and maximizes the voltage output of the piezoelectric patch. The variation of power outputs with respect to electrical resistance, air speed, and extra mass is experimentally investigated for various cases. An analytical model is constituted using a single-mode blade element with piezoelectric patch dynamics, and the power outputs of the obtained model are compared with experimental results.

Continuous 와 pattern slot 코팅 공정에서의 유동특성과 다이 설계 (Dynamics and die design in continuous and patch slot coating processes)

  • Slot coating process, in continuous and patch modes, has been applied for the many precise coating products, e.g., flat panel displays and second batteries. However, manufacturing uniform coating products is not a trivial task at high-speed operations because various flow instabilities or defects such as leaking, bubbles, ribbing, and rivulets are frequently observed in this process. It is no wonder, therefore, that many efforts to understand the various aspects of dynamics and coating windows of this process have been made both in academia and industry. In this study, as the first topic, flow dynamics within the coating bead in slot coating process has been investigated using the one-dimensional viscocapillary model by lubrication approximation and two-dimensional model by Flow-3D software. Especially, operability windows in both 1D and 2D cases with various slot die lip designs have been successfully portrayed. Also, effects of process conditions like viscosity and coating gap size on slot coating window have been analyzed. Also, some experiments to find minimum coating thickness and coating windows have been conducted using slot die coater implemented with flow visualization device, corroborating the numerical results. As the second topic, flow dynamics of both Newtonian and Non-Newtonian fluids in patch or pattern slot coating process, which is employed in manufacturing IT products such as secondary batteries, has been investigated for the purpose of optimal process designs. As a matter of fact, the flow control in this system is more difficult than in continuous case because od its transient or time-dependent nature. The internal die and die lip designs for patterned uniform coating products have been obtained by controlling flow behaviors of coating liquids issuing from slot. Numerical simulations have been performed using Fluent and Flow-3D packages. Flow behavior and pressure distribution inside the slot die has been compared with various die internal shapes and geometries. In the coating bead region, efforts to reduce irregular coating defects in head and tail parts of one patterned coating unit have been tried by changing die lip shapes. It has been concluded that optimal die internal design gas been developed, guaranteeing uniform velocity distribution of both Newtonian and shear thinning fluids at the die exit. And also optimal die lip design has been established, providing the longer uniform coating layer thickness within one coating unit.

Pattern and process in MAEUL, a traditional Korean rural landscape

  • Land-use changes due to the socio-economic environment influence landscape patterns and processes, which affect habitats and biodiversity. This study considers the effects of such land-use changes, particularly on the traditional rural "Maeul" forested landscape, by analyzing landscape structure and vegetation changes. Three study areas were examined that have seen their populations decrease and age over the last few decades. Five types of plant life-forms (Raunkier life-forms) were distinguished to investigate ecosystem function. Principle component analysis was used to understand vegetation dynamics and community characteristics based on a vegetation similarity index. Ordination analysis transformed species-coverage data was introduced to clarify vegetation dynamics. Landscape indices, such as area metrics, edge metrics, and shape metrics, showed that spatial heterogeneity has increased over time in all areas. Pinus densiflora was the main land-use plant type in all study areas but decreased over time, whereas Quercus spp. increased. Over a decade, P. densiflora communities shifted to deciduous oak and plantation. These findings indicate that the impact of human activities on the Maeul landscape is twofold. While forestry activities caused heavy disturbances, the abandonment of traditional human activities has led to natural succession. Furthermore, it can be concluded that the type and intensity of these human impacts on landscape heterogeneity relate differently to vegetation succession. This reflects the cause and consequence of patch dynamics. We discuss an approach for sustainable landscape planning and management of the Maeul landscape based on traditional management.

설악산 전나무 고목림의 자연성 판단을 위한 기초연구 (Preliminary Study on Naturalness of Korean Fir (Abies holophylla) Stand in Mt. Sorak)

  • 원시림이 없는 한국에 산림생태계 이해에 근원이 될 자연림은 매우 중요한 의미를 가진다. 설악산에 존재하는 몇몇 전나무 고목림의 자연성을 판단하기 위하여 국제적으로 통용되는 원시림 혹은 자연림의 특징과 임분 동태학을 산림생태계 변화(천이)의 기본으로 상정하고 조사를 진행하였다. 비록 면적은 좁지만 모든 조사지역은 자연성을 확실히 보이고 있으며 수진된 기초자료는 한국 자연림 연구의 밑거름이 되리라 사료된다.
