  • Photosensitive electordes(Ag and Black) are widely used in the patterning of both address and bus electrodes on the rear and front panel of plasma display panel (PDP). As the need for high resolution(>XGA) and large area(>60 inches) PDP is increased, basic understanding of each component of formulation on the photolithographic process of patterning electrodes are required in order to increase the yield in the production of PDP. In this work, the materials and amount of necessary components of photosensitive electrode paste and their effect on the photolithographic process of patterning electrodes were studied.

  • Theoretical models for prediction of the mechanical properties of cement mortar are developed based on the morphology and interactions of cement hydration products, capillary pores and microcracks. The models account for intermolecular interactions involving the nano-scale calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) constituents of hydration products, and consider the effects of capillary pores as well as the microcracks within the hydrated cement paste and at the interfacial transition zone (ITZ). Cement mortar was modeled as a three-phase material composed of hydrated cement paste, fine aggregates and ITZ. The Hashin's bound model was used to predict the elastic modulus of mortar as a three-phase composite. Theoretical evaluation of fracture toughness indicated that the frictional pullout of fine aggregates makes major contribution to the fracture energy of cement mortar. Linear fracture mechanics principles were used to model the tensile strength of mortar. The predictions of theoretical models compared reasonably with empirical values.

  • Sealant paste with silica immersed in cross-linked epoxy-acrylate polymer resin was prepared by thermal and UV curing process. The curing mechanism of polymer resin resulted from 2 functional groups of epoxy and acrylic structure. The properties of microstructure, thermal conductivity and mechanical strength were investigated for its various applications. The adhesion strength is increased by increasing the thermal curing time until 15 minutes, and curing efficiency is saturated over 20 minutes. The increase rate per day of pot life and viscosity is 4.8%, indicating it has excellent storage stability. It is found that the formulation of silica pastes can be applied to heavy industries, building materials, display and various industries.

  • When construction of high pressure jet-grouting is to be performed, it has been reported that applied cement slurry which hasn't got dried out can cause severe environmental pollution, and can flow into near streams and fish farms. Several laboratory tests were performed in this study in order to verify safety of paste-like grouting material that was developed newly to be applied to void in the ground. According to experimental test results, it is proved to be so safe that application of the newly developed flowable grouting material can prevent the materials from spilling into surrounding areas and is not harmful to fishes.

  • The cause of excess current noise which appears some times in RuO$_2$ thick film chip resistors and the process to reduce such noise are investigated. We observed that too large thermal expansion coefficients of resistor paste and electrode metal paste can induce the mechanical stress and microcracks in the contact region of the two sintered materials. Such microcracks result in the reduction of conduction paths in the sintered electrode and this provokes the increase of the resistance value and the current noise. Such excessive current noise induced by microcracks could be reduced or even eliminated by using an enlarged overcoat patterns in the plating process or by adding an additional annealing process before plating.

  • Study was conducted to determine and assess the effect of different type of denture adhesives on the incisal bite force of complete denture wearers until the dislodgement of upper denture, using pressure transducer. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 30 patients out of 100 were included in the study. Based on the Kapur's method of scoring denture retention and stability, these patients were divided into 3 groups-Group A - Clinically good dentures; Group B - Clinically fair dentures; and Group C - Clinically poor dentures. A custom made occlusal force meter was constructed based on the load cell type of pressure transducers. Different adhesives (powder, paste and adhesive strips) were used in the study. Complete denture wearers were asked to bite on the load cell and the readings of incisal bite force were recorded. The readings of incisal bite force were subjected to statistical analysis using Repeated measures ANOVA followed by post-hoc bonferroni test. RESULTS. The result suggests that denture adhesives improved the incisal bite force of complete denture wearers significantly The incisal bite force (in kg) in Group A without using adhesives, with powder adhesive, with paste adhesive and with adhesive strips was found to be 2.48 (${\pm}0.16$), 3.43 (${\pm}0.11$), 6.01 (${\pm}0.11$), 3.22 (${\pm}0.09$) respectively. The incisal bite force (in kg) in Group B without using adhesives, with powder adhesive, with paste adhesive and with adhesive strips was found to be 1.87 (${\pm}0.18$), 3.35 (${\pm}0.14$), 5.34 (${\pm}0.18$), 3.21 (${\pm}0.12$) respectively. The incisal bite force (in kg) in Group C without using adhesives, with powder adhesive, with paste adhesive and with adhesive strips was found to be 1.00 (${\pm}0.17$), 3.07 (${\pm}0.14$), 4.37 (${\pm}0.26$), 2.99 (${\pm}0.14$) respectively. CONCLUSION. Within the limitations of the study, it was concluded that the use of denture adhesive was found to be significantly effective in improving the incisal bite force of complete dentures until the dislodgement of upper denture. Fittydent paste adhesive was found to be more effective than the powder and strips adhesives. The improvement in incisal bite force was found to be higher in Group C in comparison to that of Group A and Group B.
