  • Optical fiber sensor is a subject which has been attracted considerable attention in recent years. Detection of sound pressure with optical fibers positioned in the arms of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer is presented in this paper. A fiber length of the order of 150m is wounded is made by hollow cylinder type. To increase the sound signal 3${\times}3$ directional coupler is used. Fiber optic hydrophone is the underwater tank with 2kHz sound source. Finally, it is shown that the fiber optic hydeophone can stably detec 2kHz sound.

  • This paper investigates the performance of an electromagnetic type active control engine mount (ACM) recently developed in the laboratory. The ACM employs the basic structure of the conventional hydraulic engine mount of which upper chamber is connected to a dual magnet electromagnetic actuator. The actuator, that essentially replaces the existing decoupler of the conventional passive hydraulic engine mount, actively controls the upper chamber pressure. Using the linearized ACM model incorporated with the actuator dynamics, we suggest an optimal design of ACM, maximizing the actuator efficiency as well as the vibration isolation efficiency.

  • An object of the present study is to provide a hollow fiber membrane humidifier capable of improving the humidification efficiency while lowering the pressure loss, and is suitably usable for PEMFC(Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell). The performance of PEMFC is decisively dependent on the humidity of the electrolyte membrane(fluorinated membrane) and a humidifier plays an important role in moisturizing electrolyte membrane. Especially this humidifier is adaptable for lower price to promote the commercialization of fuel cell vehicles and is passive type to be power free and to be volumetrically optimized. In this research, we propose the substitutes for the expensive fluorinated materials and the optimum dry-jet wet spinning conditions of hollow fiber membrane to get the fuel cell humidifier. In addition to that we established the standard method of evaluating the moisturizing performance of the humidifier of various materials.

  • The physics of the plume-induced shock and separation particulary at a high plume to exit pressure ratio and supersonic speeds up to Mach 3.0 with aid without a passive control method, porous extension, were studied using computational techniques. Mass-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the RNG k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence model were solved using a fully implicit finite volume scheme and a 4-stage Runge-Kutta method. The courol methodology for plume-afterbody interactions is to use a perforated wall attached at either the nozzle exit or the edge of the missile base. The Effect of porous wall length on plume interference is also investigated. The computational results show the main effect of the porous extension on plume-afterbody interactions is to in the plume from strongly underexpanding during a change in flight conditions. With control, a change in porous extension length has no significant effect on plume interference.

  • This study is to present explicit analytical expressions for calculating bearing capacity factor $N_{\gamma}$, to provide results of the numerical computation instead of the graphical method. In this study, $N_{\gamma}$ is proposed in the critical failure surface on assumption that the center of log spiral in the radial shear zone can be located at the any points of around footing. The critical failure surface is one which yields minimum passive pressure $P_{\gamma}$ on the radial shear zone from the family of log spirals accoding to change of the center of log spiral. This study adoptes Terzaghi's bearing capacity principle(e.g., Prandtl's mechanism, limit equilibrium equation, superposition principle) but the soil wedge in an elastic zone makes angle $45^{\circ}+{\phi}/2$ with the horizontal and the location of the log spiral's center.

  • A unique feature of fluidic atomizers is that the nozzle geometry produces a thin capillary Jet which is forced to oscillate on a 2-dimensional plane through the use of a passive feedback mechanism. The objective of the current work is to characterize the influence of the stagnation pressure at the nozzle exit, jet oscillation and stretching on the breakup properties of the capillary ligament. To achieve this, shadow graph technique is used to measure size, shape, velocity and the number density of the droplets as a function of the position within the spray fan. The breakup length, defined as the radial distance from the breakup point, is analyzed as a function of the non-dimensional parameters. Finally, a kinematic model is developed to simulate the breakup of the oscillating jets at low stagnation pressures. Using the existing jet breakup theories, the model is used to predict the size and diameter distribution of the droplets after primary atomization.

  • The ship performs heat exchange using seawater to keep main engine and auxiliary machinery at optimum temperature. In heat exchanger, refrigerant located outside of copper tube is cooled by seawater flowing through inside of copper tube. On the other hand, seawater erosion and corrosion nay occasionally cause the corrosion of the copper tube in A/C(Air Conditioner) condenser. This corrosion of copper tube makes seawater and refrigerant mixed, seriously damaging A/C system. In this study, accordingly, the exact ive mechanism of the corrosion on the condenser entailing serious problems occasional is investigated through the electrochemical polarization experiments on the condenser's component materials. According to the experiments, the corrosive procedures on the copper tube was verified by the fact that passive film of the copper tube surface which is destroyed by the pressure of sucked seawater, is damaged by the corrosive ingredients in the seawater.

  • In this study, the flow control system with shape memory alloy in jet engine inlet was suggested to adjust the shock boundary layer interact~on for supersonic flight system. It consisted of the flap with shape memory alloy, spar with steel, and fixing device with aluminum alloy. The advantages of itself are a simple configuration, a passive air circulation by using the flap deflection due to pressure difference, and no need to be required the auxiliary devices. Finite element analysis was conducted to predict the thenno-mechanical behavlor of the flap system with shape memory alloy. The user-defined subroutine UMAT was implemented with ABAQUS to accon~modate the thermo-mechanical constitutive relation of shape memory alloy.

  • A simple set of the transition criterion of the condensation regimes and the heat transfer coefficients on the direct contact condensation of the core makeup tank is developed, and implemented in RELAP5/MOD3.1 The condensation regimes are divided into two regimes: supply limit and condensation limit. In mode]ing the transition criterion between two regimes, a large-eddy model developed by Theofanous is used, and the empirical coefficient of the present large-eddy model is close to that of the large-eddy model. It turns out that the modified code better predicts the experimental data, especially the injection flow rate and the water level trend than the original code does.
