누적손상이론을 이용한 기계류부품의 가속수명시험법 개발 (Development of Accelerated Life Test Method for Machanical Parts Using Cumulative Damage Theory)

  • This study was performed to develop accelerated life test method of machanical parts using cumulative damage theory that used to model the fatigue of parts that receive variable load. The cumulative damage theory was introduced, and the estimation of life and calculation of accelerated life test time was illustrated. As the actual application example, accelerated life test method of agricultural tractor transmission was described. Life distribution of agricultural tractor transmission was supposed to follow Weibull distribution and life test time was calculated under the conditions of average life (MTBF) 3,000 hours and 90% reliability for one test sample. According to the cumulative damage theory, because test time can shorten in case increase test load, test time could be reduced by 482 hours when we put the load 1.1 times of rated load than 0.73 times of rated load that is equivalent load calculated by load spectrum of the agricultural tractor. This time, acceleration coefficient was 11.7. This accelerated test method was used to develop accelerated test method of gear reducer, hydraulic hose and bearing as well as agricultural tractor transmission and it is considered to be applied comprehensively to machanical parts the fatigue of which is happened by load or pressure etc.

  • In this study, we propose reliability prediction of a satellite by function analysis. To do so, the intended functions of the satellite are derived from using function structure block diagram, and defined as main, sub, and detailed functions. Furthermore, in order to generate function and reliability structure table, reliability model rule, duty cycle, and types of switch are assigned to the classified functions. This study also establishes reliability block diagram and mathematical reliability models to schematize the relationship among the functions. The reliability of the classified function is estimated by calculating the failure rate of parts comprising them. Finally, we apply the proposed method to a small satellite as a case study. The result shows that the reliability for the detailed function and the sub function as well as the main function could be predicted quantitatively and accurately by the proposed approach.

Slitting Knife의 손상에 미치는 마모의 영향 (The effect of wear on the damage of slitting knife)

  • This study analyzed the damage to a slitting knife after cutting steel sheets. Damages to the structure were observed and wear tests were conducted. In addition, the degradation on the damaged and undamaged parts was compared with a micro Vickers hardness test. Weibull statistical analysis was carried out in order to evaluate the reliability of the micro Vickers hardness measured data. Spalling of the edge portion occurred by degradation during use over a long period. Rough parts in the specimens were caused by damage because the slitting knife was used for 1 year. The friction coefficient and wear loss at the damaged parts of the knife edge were slightly larger from shock due to repetitive cutting operation. The micro Vickers hardness followed a two-parameter Weibull probability distribution.

  • Passengers and Airlines wish neither delay nor cancellation due to aircraft defects. However, about 1 delay or cancellation case occurs out of 100 departures worldwide whereas 1 quarter case does in Korean domestic industry. Independent LCC carriers in Korea have almost double case. Most cases are recovered by replacing aircraft components. Airlines have prepared the spare components based on the reliability data by manufacturers to rectify defects or perform preventive maintenances. The total value for initial spares including engine is 40% of the aircraft price when they operate less than 5 aircraft. The more airlines operate the aircraft, the less the ratio of the investment for spares reflecting the economy of scale. This study intends to suggest how to improve the efficiencies as well as the safety of LCC throughout parts pooling including engines.

Reliability Improvement of Titania Ceramics with Surface Flaw Through High Voltage Screening

  • Effect of high voltage screening was examined on mechanical strength of titania ceramics with two different surface roughness. Roughly finished sample showed degraded mechanical strength meaning that the introduced flaw played the role of starting point of mechanical fracture. On such sample, electrically weak parts were eliminated by applying a screening field. Mechanical strength measurement on survived parts revealed that after screening the Weibull plots bended to become a convex curve while plots at high strength region were almost the same. This result means that relatively low mechanical strength parts were eliminated by the electrical method. As a result the Weibull modulus calculated from all the data increased, demonstrating the effect of high voltage screening on titania ceramics containing fracture controlling surface flaws. Roles of the surface flaw such as a common weak spot for both failures are disscussed in relation to the electric field concentration similar to that of mechanical stress.

  • Resonance refers to the magnification of a structural response which occurs when a linear lightly damped system is driven with a sinusoidal input at its natural frequency. An exploratory vibration test (a natural frequency measurement test) is very important for the vibration testing of machine parts, as the value measured in an actual laboratory affects test results. For this reason, it is necessary to estimate the measurement uncertainty to verify the reliability of this type of test. In this study, measurement uncertainty is estimated based on three uncertainty factors. The uncertain factors are the measured points in the machine parts, the resolution of the vibration equipment, and uncertainty of the calibration certificate.

단섬유 보강 이방성 사출성형품의 휨 해석 (Warpage Analysis of Fiber Reinforced Injection Molded Parts)

  • A warpage analysis program has been developed for fiber-reinforced injection molded parts. The warpage is predicted from the residual stress and anisotropic thermo-mechanical properties coupled with fiber orientation in the integrated injection molding simulation. A simple elastic model is used for the calculation of thermally and pressure-induced residual stresses which are employed as the initial conditions in the structural analysis. To improve the reliability of warpage analysis, a new triangular flat shell element superimposing well-known efficient plate bending and membrane element is presented. The numerical examples address the necessity to use anisotropic models for fiber-reinforced materials and show that predicted warpage is in good agreement with experimentally measured one.

  • This study finds out and suggests success factors for the application of RIMS project through the case study of Seoul Metro and literature survey. The successful application of RIMS needs expert knowledge and concept of BOM, standardization of maintenance planning, check lists of heavy maintenance inspection, organization structure of rolling stock maintenance offices, material management system of warehousing and the process of parts repairing between offices, connection of material ordering system, problem solving of circular spare parts administration among inspection, maintenance, and material organizational units, systemic serial number management of parts with RFID, daily closing diary connected with work process chart, and sufficient period of RIMS's test run. RIMS contributes to real time management of rolling stock maintenance, transparency of management, reliability of train operation, customer satisfaction, and management innovation.

  • An engine cradle is a quite important structural assembly for supporting the engine, suspension and steering parts of vehicle and absorbing the vibrations during the drive and the shock in the car crash. Recently, the engine cradle having structural stiffness enough to support the surrounding parts and absorbing the shock of collision has been widely used. The hydroforming technology may cause many advantages to automotive applications in terms of better structural integrity of parts, reduction of production cost, weight reduction, material saving, reduction in the number of joining processes and improvement of reliability. We focus on increasing the durability and the dynamic performance of engine cradle. For realizing this objective, several optimization design techniques such as shape, size, and topology optimization are performed. This optimization scheme based on the sensitivity can provide distinguished performance improvement in using hydroforming.
