Objective: This study aimed to find out whether concern for children mediates the impact of parenting competence on the anger expression of mothers with young children. Methods: Subjects consisted of 219 mothers with children aged 3 to 6 years old attending kindergartens and daycare centers. The motehrs were given 3 rating scales about parenting competence, concerns about their children, and anger expression. The Parental Anger Scales measuring anger expression consisted of sub-factors such as situational anger, impulsive behavior, and difficulty of anger control. Results: Using the data collected, correlation analysis and the regression analysis procedure by Baron & Kenny(1968) were conducted; the significance of the mediating effects was verified by the Sobel test. First, the study found that there were significant positive correlations between mother's parenting competence, concern about children, and anger expression. Second, mothers' concern about their children had partial mediating effects on the relationships between parenting competence and overall anger expression, situational anger and impulsive behavior, and a complete mediating effect on the relationship between parenting competence and difficulty with anger control. Conclusion/Implications: These results were discussed in terms of the approach and content of parent education to help parents with young children control their anger.
The purpose of this study was to find the effects of parenting behavior, parenting involvement and father-child communicationon on children's multiple intelligence. For this purpose, 182 children selected from three elementary schools and their fathers participated in the study. The findings of this study are as follows : First, there were some significant differences in children's multiple intelligence according to the children's grade, gender, father's educational background and income. Second, there were some significant differences in children's multiple intelligence according to the parenting behavior, warmth acceptance, rejection restriction and permissiveness nonintervention behaviors, and to leisure activity, life guidance, study guidance of parenting involvement and to father-child open communication, problematic communication. Third, It was also found that children's grade, gender, father's educational background, warmth acceptance behavior, permissiveness nonintervention behaviors and open communication, problematic communication were all significant predictors of the children's multiple intelligence. In order to increase the children's multiple intelligence, parents should be warmer and more accepting and have open commnication with their children.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of playfulness, play support beliefs and parenting stress on intimate parenting in the mothers of young children by maternal employment. In order to achieve this, 405 mothers of young children, aged 3-5 years old, participated in a self-reported survey. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics using SPSS 19.0 and structural equation modeling and multigroup analysis using AMOS 21.0. The results of this study showed that the mothers' support beliefs and parenting stress mediated both playfulness and intimate parenting irrespective of maternal employment. Interestingly, the unemployed mothers' playfulness had direct effects on intimate parenting whereas the playfulness of the employed mothers did not. Lastly, the effects of the mothers' play support beliefs, playfulness, and parenting stress on intimate parenting did not differ between employed and unemployed mothers.
Objective: This study examined the mediating effect of mother's parenting attitudes on the relationship between mother's parenting stress and respect for children's rights. Methods: The questionnaires were answered by 287 mothers with children aged 1 to 5 attending child-care centers in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and Structural Equation Model. Results: First, parenting stress did not directly affect respect for children's rights. Second, the indirect effect of the mother's parenting stress on respect for children's rights through affectionate parenting attitudes was significant. Third, it was found that parenting stress indirectly affects respect for children's rights through a rejection parenting attitude. Conclusion/Implications: In this study, it was found that mother's parenting stress indirectly affected respect for children's rights through parenting attitude. Based on this result, parent education and programs need to be developed to increase respect for children's rights.
The objective of this research is to find out the relationship among resilience of young children, their interactive peer play, and mothers' overprotective parenting attitudes. The research was conducted for 455 children aged 3~5 and their mothers of day care centers in the cities of Kimje and Iksan. To measure resilience of young children, the rating scale for parents and teachers(Koo, 2010) adapting DECA(1999) was used. And the interactive peer play scale of Choi and Shin(2008) adapting PIPPS(1998) and the Parental Protectiveness of Do and Falbo(1999) was used. The results from this research are as follows. First, there is a generally significant positive correlation between resilience and interactive peer play of young children. Resilience of young children gets higher as interactive peer play of young children gets higher. Second, there is low negative correlation between resilience and mothers' overprotective parenting attitudes. Resilience of young children gets higher as mothers' overprotective parenting attitudes get low.
The purpose of this study, targeting Korean and Chinese fathers(459) having 3-5 year-old children, was to verify whether fathers' parenting involvement, parenting style and sociality of children are different with nationality. Furthermore, it was examined the effect of fathers' parenting involvement and style depending on development of children's sociality. In case of the fathers' parenting involvement, Korean fathers showed higher value compared to Chinese fathers. Chinese children had higher sociality than Korean children. Fathers' parenting involvement and style had positive relationship with children's sociality in Korean fathers and children. Such trend was similar to Chinese fathers and children. Finally, it was found that the fathers' parenting involvement and style played a pivotal role in children's sociality. Especially, higher 'Development Support' among sub-factors of parenting involvement and 'warmth' of parenting style led to higher sociality in children.
This study investigated the relations between mother's parenting self-efficacy, perceived social support, parenting behavior, and acculturative stress, and young children's problem behavior, focusing on the mediational role of mother's parenting self-efficacy and parenting behavior. Mothers were female international marriage immigrant from China, Philippines, and Vietnam. The participants were 374mothers of young children and teachers of the children in Busan and Gyungnam, Korea. Questionnaires were based on Choe and Chung (2001), Shin(1996), Lee (1996), Hong (1995), and Han(1996). Structural equation modeling indicated that mother's parenting self-efficacy and parenting behavior were significant mediators of the relation between mother's perceived social support and child's problem behavior. The results will be useful for parent training programs for female international marriage immigrant.
The purpose of this study was to identify how characteristics of young children (sex, age, birth order, temperament), parents (education level, employed or unemployed mother, mother's parenting behavior), and family (income) relate to young children's stress levels and to examine the relative effects of these variables on young children's stress. The subjects for this study were 287 young children, aged from 3 to 5 years old, selected from kindergartens and day-care centers in Busan. Data were analyzed with t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression. The results were as follows. (1) Young children's stress was correlated with young children's sex, age, birth order and temperament. (2) Young children's stress was correlated with parenting behaviors. (3) Young children's stress was not correlated with income. (4) Children's emotionality and maternal overprotective behavior were the most significant variables affecting the stress experienced by boys and girls, respectively. (5) Maternal overprotective behavior variable affected both sibling and only children's stress.

Objectives : This study was conducted to compare the object relations and parenting behavior of the mothers of children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with that of the mothers with normal children. Methods : In this study, we studied 64 mothers of children who were diagnosed with ADHD and 90 mothers of normal children. The mothers completed the Bell Object Relations Inventory (BORI), the Parenting Behavior Inventory (PBI), the Parenting Stress Index (PSI) and the Parenting Sense of Competence (PSOC) scale. Results : As compared with the mothers of normal children, the mothers of children with ADHD showed significantly different results for the parenting stress and parenting efficacy. For parenting behavior, the mothers of children with ADHD perceived their mothering as being more neglectful. On the other hand, the mothers of the normal control group perceived their mothering as being more affectionate and the fathers as being more reasonable and monitoring. Conclusion : This study suggests there is a significant difference of object relation between the mothers of children with ADHD and the mothers with normal children. The object relation pathology of the mothers of children with ADHD might contribute to impaired parenting behavior. The result of the present study indicate that inadequate grandparental rearing behavior affects the insecure object relation of their child (the mother), and a mother's insecure object relation affects their parental stress and parenting efficacy.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the structural relationship between fathers' involvement in parenting, mother's parenting stress and smartphone addiction, and children's smartphone addiction. The data collected from the subjects were analyzed based on correlation analysis and structural equation modeling. Results: First, the fathers' involvement in parenting had a direct effect on their children's smartphone addiction, and no direct effect on the mother's parenting stress and smartphone addiction. Second, the mother's parenting stress had a direct effect on the mother's smartphone addiction and direct and indirect effects on their children's smartphone addiction. Third, the mother's smartphone addiction had a direct effect on their children's smartphone addiction. Conclusion/Implications: The findings in this study suggest the fathers' involvement in parenting and the mother's parenting stress and smartphone addiction have effects on their children's smartphone addiction. Based on these results, the study proposed ways to prevent children's addiction to smartphones and provided suggestions for further research.
