This study was conducted to investigate how the community values taught at home by parents affect the soundness of family life. The 914 participants in the sample were parents residing in Seoul. Major findings are described in the following: 1) The general level education of community-oriented values at home, which was measured by the level of parents' practice of community-oriented behavior, was very insufficient. 2) The soundness of family life was measured in six sub-areas. The six areas showed varying degrees of soundness, but the overall level of soundness was satisfactory. The conjugal relationship had the highest degree of soundness, whereas the general everyday atmosphere at home marked the lowest level. 3) The only significant independent variable that affected the practice of community values was the participants's subjective perception of their social class standing. 4) The level of practice of community values and social class variables were found to influence the soundness of family life. The level of practice of community values was an especially strong predictor in all areas of family soundness. In conclusion, the education of community values at home, measured by the parental practice of community-oriented behavior, positively influences the soundness of the family.
The purpose of this study was to examine determine the relationships among father's child-rearing behavior, parent's marital conflict as perceived by children, and children's aggression. The subjects of this study were included 245 students of 6th-grade students living in Gyeonggi-do. Each participant completed a child's perception of parent's rearing behavior, a parental conflict scale, and a children's aggression scale. Data was analyzed using via the following methods: frequency, percentage, mean, t-test, Pearson's correlation, multiple regression analysis, and Cronbach's a. As a result of this study, it was revealed determined that a there were a significant relationship existed with regard to between the father's rearing behavior, the parent's marital conflict, and the children's aggression. This study showed indicated that the father's rearing behavior, rather than the parent's marital conflict, was the more influential on the with regard to children's aggression.
Based on Perceptions about Mathematics Teachers (PMT) perceived by high school students, measured by 2189 students from Seoul Educational Longitudinal Study 2014 (SELS 2014), latent profile analysis (LPA) identified five distinct types of student groups (positive, partial positive, middle, negative, extreme negative). These student of positive, middle, and negative groups are positive, moderate and negative perceptions about math teachers. Partial positive group generally had a positive perception about mathematics teachers, extremely negative group was very negative about mathematics teachers. Both of these groups had peculiarly inconsistent trends and several anomalies. The Multinomial logistic regression analyses also indicated that individual factors (gender, major, self-concept, resilience, self-assessment, career maturity), school factors (friendship, relationship with school teachers) and parental factors (academic-relationship, emotional-relationship) were significant predictors of PMT profile groups. The Analysis of variance also indicated that mathematics class (attitude, satisfaction and atmosphere), Mathematics achievement were significant predictors of PMT profile groups. The profiling of perceptions about mathematics teachers resulted in enhanced understanding of the complex range of processes students employed. During mathematics class, implementation of smooth interactions and communications between students and teachers added in the teaching and learning of mathematics.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influences of children's perception of maternal acceptance-rejection and self-evaluation on learned helplessness. The Subjects were 371 fifth and sixth grade children. The helplessness scale, PAQ, PARQ were used. The data was analyzed by factor analysis, MANOVA, ANOVA and path analysis which was made through multiple regression analysis. The results were as follows: 1. The children's perceived maternal acceptance was significantly different depending on their parent's education level. In children's perceived parental rejection, there were gender differences. 2. In the children's self-evaluation, there were an interaction effect determined by the child's sex and the mother's education level, and a main effect of mother's education level. 3. Children's learned helplessness was significantly different depending on their mother's education level. 4. Children's perceived maternal acceptance(β=-0.36, p<.01) and rejection (β=0.17, p<.01) had a direct impact on their self-evaluation. Their self-evaluation(β=0.54, p<.01) and perceived maternal rejection(β=0.16, p<.01) had a direct impact on learned helplessness, but perceived maternal acceptance didn't have a direct impact on learned helplessness.
The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristics of school adolescents social capital by using Q methodology, to improve the adaptation of adolescents to school, and to contribute to the theory of social capital. As a result of the analysis, five types were derived. Type I was abundance, type II was family ceremony type, type III was discipline, type IV was exchange type, type V was trust type'. Based on the above five types, the characteristics of the social capital types of school adolescents are as follows: First, Type I includes social capital elements in various areas with abundant social capital elements relative to other types. Second, Type III is the weakest type of support among family members among the social capital elements in the family. Emotional interactions in parent - child relationship are cut off. Type II, however, is more emotional Support is the strongest type. Third, types II, IV, and V are parents love and affection for their children and they are very interested in children. The purpose of this study was to examine the perception of cyber community participants on reconciliation of divorced couple and find reasons for pros and cons concerning reconciliation after divorce. The data were collected through searching for website or Internet cafe related to 'reconciliation after divorce' on Internet. The contents of 7 cases for asking for advice on reuniting and opinions of cyber community participants on them were analyzed. Cyber community participants expressed their approval of divorced couple's reuniting for following reasons: 'strong motive for reunion', 'sexual relation with ex-partner', 'parental responsibility', 'regarding reconciliation as a better choice than remarriage', 'regarding as a good choice for child' etc. But cyber community members were opposed to divorced couple's reuniting for following reasons: 'doubt about real intention to reuniting', 'no self-reflection on previous marriage and ex-spouse', 'concern for recurrence of former marital conflict', 'reuniting only for child not for couple', 'no prior settlement of former marital conflict', 'no forgiveness and tolerance for ex-spouse', 'no reflection and change', 'no effort on ex-spouse's side' etc. Though these results were restrictive, this study identified issues surrounding reconciliation after divorce through asking and giving advices by anonymous members on cyberspace. These findings implied that we should take more interest in reconciliation as an realistic alternative marriage pattern after divorce and consider what is important to successful reuniting after divorce.

Background: Dental fear and anxiety are significant challenges in managing behavior in children. Oral administration of sucrose or sweet-tasting solutions has shown effectiveness in reducing procedural pain in infants and neonates. This study aimed to investigate whether pre-application of sucrose solution had an effect on minimizing pain perception during injection and to assess the potential impact of the child's age and sweet preference. Methods: A randomized control clinical trial was conducted on 60 children aged 3-9 years requiring buccal infiltration injections. Following parental consent, demographic data of the children were recorded. Sweet preferences was assessed using a modified forced-choice test. Children were equally and randomly allocated into study (sucrose) and control groups using a lottery method. Sucrose solution or distilled water, respectively, was applied to the lateral surface of the tongue for 2 min. Topical anesthetic was applied at the site of injection, followed by local anesthesia administration. The children rinsed their mouths thrice with water immediately after anesthetic injection. A video was recorded during injection which was then scored by three blinded examiners on the Sound Eye Motor (SEM) scale. The children also self-evaluated using Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale (WBFPS). Results: The mean SEM scores and WBFPS scores were analyzed using the Kruskall-Wallis test. The mean SEM score in the study group was 1.37 ± 0.61, compared to 3.17 ± 0.87 in the control group, showing a statistically significant difference (P < 0.001). Mean pain scores assessed by WBFPS in the study group were 0.60 ± 1.4, while in the control group, they were 6.27 ± 2.33, also showing a statistically significant difference (P < 0.001). Children with a sweet preference demonstrated a subjective reduction in pain perception. Conclusion: Application of sucrose before dental injections in children helps to minimize pain upon injection across all age groups.
The purpose of this study was to examine the use of dentifrice among preschoolers in an attempt to provide consumers with the right information on the choice of dentifrice and toothbrush for different age groups of children. The subjects in this study were parents who raised preschoolers in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. A self-administered survey was conducted over approximately three months from May to July 2007 to find out the state of their children's use of dentifrice. After the collected data were analyzed, the following findings were given: The greatest group (51.5%) needed parental help with toothbrushing. The biggest group of the patients (35.6%) considered it necessary for children at the age of 6 and 7 to brush their teeth with the help of their parents. As to dentifrice squeezing and parental outlook on that, the biggest group of the parents (49.4%) replied their children squeezed the dentifrice for themselves, and the greatest group (42.2%) thought that children needed parental help with dentifrice squeezing by the age of five. Regarding dentifrice swallowing and parental perception of it, the biggest group (61.9%) saw their children swallowing the dentifrice, and the greatest group (73.7%) believed that children must not swallow the dentifrice. The biggest group of those who found it okay for children to swallow the dentifrice (62.5%) thought that it would be no problem to swallow the dentifrice for child. Concerning the use of toothbrushes, the biggest group (96.7%) had their children use toothbrushes for child. The above-mentioned findings of the study showed that the children who are at the age of 3 or down should use non-fluoride containing dentifrice or just a small amount of fluoride that is as equal as the size of a pea. Children must brush their teeth under the guidance of their parents, and sustained education should be provided about that.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify changes in smart device usage trends of young children using two studies conducted in 2015-2016 and 2017 respectively. Methods: We compared the data of the previous study of 130 children (Group A) and the new study of 162 children (Group B). The children and parents were recruited from kindergartens in Seoul and Guri/Namyangju cities. We used the "Parental questionnaire for smart device usage status." Results: There were some changes in the smart device usage in young children and parental perception. In the 2017 study, smart device usage time increased during weekends (P<0.05) and the usage with siblings decreased (P<0.05). In 2017, the smart device was mostly used when children had to be quiet without disturbing others (36.8%). No significant difference existed in the main purpose of use: watching video clips (79.3% vs 76.6%). Overall control of the usage was still largely exercised by mothers; however, when using applications, mothers still only helped the children on request (51.8% vs 49.7%). Regarding the effect of smart device on children, responses of "not knowing" decreased and "will be negative" and "will be positive" increased (P<0.05). Additionally, most mothers thought that "Although the smart device is currently unnecessary, it will be needed in future" in 2017 (46.3%). Conclusion: Limiting the smart device usage time during the weekends and increasing parental involvements are recommended. Guidelines for smart devices usage in young children are also necessary considering the changes in parental attitudes in recognizing the smart device usage as unavoidable.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting childhood asthma and atopic dermatitis. Methods: For this study, data for 1,170 children (1-11 years) from the Fifth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES V-2, 2011) were analyzed. First correlation matrices were computed to test the normality of every data set and then to be in accordance with the real demographic composition, data were added weight before being analyzed. Results: The child with asthma of a three generation family (OR=3.91, 95% CI [1.33, 11.45], p=.013) compared with a two generation family showed higher asthma development, and maternal asthma (OR=9.71, 95% CI [2.66, 35.40], p=.001) showed higher asthma development in child. The only factor affecting atopic dermatitis was parental perceptions of child health: poor (OR=3.40, 95% CI [1.29, 8.98], p=.014). Conclusion: These results suggest that childhood asthma and atopic dermatitis are both affected by parental perceptions of child health. Accordingly, management and support programs for children who have asthma and/or atopic dermatitis and their families should be comprehensive and also give attention to any other health problems because health perception represents quality of life.
