  • In 2013, August and September(early) as summer and October and November as Fall the probe of eutrophication has been done at 22 sampling points from the entrance of Danghang Bay (Jinhae Bay) to Geosan reservoir. In Danghang Bay, total chlorophyll(TChl) concentration of summer was 3.7 times higher than that of fall, and sampling points closer to the center showed 1.8 times higher concentrations than sampling points near the fringe where fresh water encountered. Eutrophication Index(EI) exceeded 1 at all sampling points in Danghang Bay during summer and fall, and if other conditions for algae growth met there was a possibility red tide to bloom at any place. There was a tendency of EI to gradually increase moving up from the entrance of bay to the inner side during summer and fall. Especially there was a sudden increase by 2.3 times higher at sampling points of 13~22 (planned region as Madong reservoir) than at other points during fall. Nitrogen was a limiting nutrient for growth of algae during summer and fall in Danghang Bay, but phosphorus was a limiting nutrient during summer rainy season. During summer and fall, multiple linear regression analysis between EI and COD, DIN, and DIP showed a significant positive relationship and that DIP was the most effective variable. Whereas multiple linear regression analysis between TChl and COD, DIN, DIP, and DSi showed a significant positive relationship and that DIP was also the most effective variable during summer. There was no significant correlation between TChl and the other parameters during fall.

  • It is essential to locally adjust the Hargreaves parameter for estimating reference evapotranspiration with short data as a substitute of Penman-Monteith equation. In this study, evaluation of daily-based reference evapotranspiration is computed with Hargreaves equation. in Gyeonggi bay area including Ganghwa, Incheon, Suwon, Seosan, and Cheonan station for the time period of 1997-2004. Hargreaves coefficient is adjusted to give the best fit with Penman-Monteith evapotranspiration, being regarded as a reference. Then, the preferred parameters are validated for the same stations for the time period of 2005-2006. The optimization-based correction in calibration for 1997-2004 shows improved performance of the Hargreaves equation, giving 0.68-0.77 to 0.92-0.98 in Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient of efficiency (NSC) and 14.63-23.30 to 5.23-11.75 in RMSE. The validation for 2005-2006 shows improved performance of the Hargreaves equation, giving 0.43-0.85 to 0.93-0.97 in NSC and 14.43-26.81 to 6.48-9.09 in RMSE.

  • Objectives: In response to increased interest in the safety of children's products, a risk management system is being prepared through exposure assessment of hazardous chemicals. To estimate exposure levels, risk assessors are using deterministic and probabilistic approaches to statistical methodology and a commercialized Monte Carlo simulation based on tools (MCTool) to efficiently support calculation of the probability density functions. This study was conducted to analyze and discuss the usage patterns and problems associated with the results of these two approaches and MCTools used in the case of probabilistic approaches by reviewing research reports related to exposure assessment for children's products. Methods: We collected six research reports on exposure and risk assessment of children's products and summarized the deterministic results and corresponding underlying distributions for exposure dose and concentration results estimated through deterministic and probabilistic approaches. We focused on mechanisms and differences in the MCTools used for decision making with probabilistic distributions to validate the simulation adequacy in detail. Results: The estimation results of exposure dose and concentration from the deterministic approaches were 0.19-3.98 times higher than the results from the probabilistic approach. For the probabilistic approach, the use of lognormal, Student's T, and Weibull distributions had the highest frequency as underlying distributions of the input parameters. However, we could not examine the reasons for the selection of each distribution because of the absence of test-statistics. In addition, there were some cases estimating the discrete probability distribution model as the underlying distribution for continuous variables, such as weight. To find the cause of abnormal simulations, we applied two MCTools used for all reports and described the improper usage routes of MCTools. Conclusions: For transparent and realistic exposure assessment, it is necessary to 1) establish standardized guidelines for the proper use of the two statistical approaches, including notes by MCTool and 2) consider the development of a new software tool with proper configurations and features specialized for risk assessment. Such guidelines and software will make exposure assessment more user-friendly, consistent, and rapid in the future.

  • In this paper, we present a Vt-DRO with a low phase noise, which is achieved by improving the coupling structure between the dielectric resonator and microstrip line. The Vt-DRO is a closed-loop type and is composed of 3 blocks; dielectric resonator, phase shifter, and amplifier. We propose a mathematical estimation method of phase noise, using the group delay of the resonator. By modifying the coupling structure between the dielectric resonator and microstrip line, we achieved a group delay of 53 nsec. For convenience of measurement, wafer probes were inserted at each stage to measure the S-parameters of each block. The measured S-parameter of the Vt-DRO satisfies the open-loop oscillation condition. The Vt-DRO was implemented by connecting the input and output of the designed open-loop to form a closed-loop. As a result, the phase noise of the Vt-DRO was measured as -132.7 dBc/Hz(@ 100 kHz offset frequency), which approximates the predicted result at the center frequency of 5.3 GHz. The tuning-range of the Vt-DRO is about 5 MHz for tuning voltage of 0~10 V and the power is 4.5 dBm. PFTN-FOM is -31 dBm.

  • In this study was implemented to develop tree stem weight prediction equation of Larix kaempferi in central region by selecting a standard site, taking into account of diameter and position of the local trees. Fifty five sample trees were selected in total. By utilizing actual data of the sample trees, 11 models were compared and analyzed in order to estimate four different kinds of weights which include fresh weight, ovendry outside bark weight, ovendry inside bark weight and merchantable weight. As to estimate its weight, the study has classified its model according to three parameters: DBH, DBH and height, and volume. The optimal model was chosen by comparing the performance of model using the fit index and standard error of estimate and residual distribution. As a result, the formula utilizing DBH (Variable 1) is $W=a+bD+cD^2$ (3) and its fit index was 90~92%. The formula for DBH and height (Variable 2) is $W=aD^bH^C$ (8) and its fit index was 97~98%. In summation, Variable 2 model showed higher fitness than Variable 1 model. Moreover, fit index of formula for total volume and merchantable volume (W=aV) showed high rate of 98~99%, as well as resulting 7.7-17.5 with SEE and 8.0-10.0 with CV(%) which lead to predominately high fitness in conclusion. This study is expected to provide information on weights for single trees and furthermore, to be used as a basic study for weight of stand unit and biomass estimation equations.

  • In nuclear power plants, the reactor pressure vessel (RPV) upper head control rod drive mechanism (CRDM) penetration nozzles are fabricated using J-groove weld geometry. Recently, the incidences of cracking in Alloy 600 CRDM nozzles and their associated welds have increased significantly. The cracking mechanism has been attributed to primary water stress corrosion cracking (PWSCC), and it has been shown to be driven by welding residual stresses and operational stresses in the weld region. The weld-induced residual stress is the main factor contributing to crack growth. Therefore, an exact estimation of the residual stress is important for ensuring reliable operation. This study presents the residual stress computation performed for an RPV CRDM penetration nozzle in Korea. Based on two and three dimensional finite element analyses, the effect of welding variables on the residual stress variation is estimated for sensitivity analysis.

  • This study suggests new synthetic unit hydrograph method considering hydrodynamic characteristic on the basin. The suggested method based on width function GIUH, and the procedure is summarized as follows; 1) Draw up a travel distance distribution map (width function) which is raster of length between from center of individual cells to the outlet by GIS. 2) Calculation of travel time distribution map (rescaled width function) by hydrodynamic parameters and travel distance distribution map. 3) Derivation of IUH and Duration UH from rescaled width function. 4) Comparison of shape of UH between suggested method and existing synthetic unit hydrograph methods. The target basins are selected Ipyeong and Tanbu subwatershed in the Bocheong Basin. The target basins are similar scale (watershed area), but different drainage structure (drainage density et al.). Therefore we anticipate that there are different hydrologic response functions because different hydrodynamic characteristics. As a result of derivation of UH, existing synthetic unit hydrograph methods are similar shape of UHs about Ipyeong and Tanbu watersheds, but the suggested method is different shape of ones. As a result of application to observed data, the peak discharge by suggested method is similar to existing synthetic unit hydrograph methods, but the peak time is well correspondence between those. Henceforth, if the suggested method combines with the rational velocity estimation method, it is useful method for synthetic of UH in ungauged watershed.

  • The low carrying capacity caused by the deposition in a sewer line is one of the main reason of the urban flood. Therefore, an efficient maintenance and management of the storm water drainage system is very important to prevent urban flood. In this research, the sediment transport characteristics through a pressure pipeline were examined with laboratory experiments. Bed-forms in a pipeline, sediment rates, roughness due to sediments were examined. Experimental system consists of flow circulation system with a pump and a sediment feeder at the upstream of the pipeline. Sediments were supplied into a 60 mm-diameter and 8 m-long pipe. Maximum flow rate is $30m^3/hr$, and the sediment feeding rate range is 5 g/s~19 g/s. Governing parameters and estimation equation for sediment transport rate were developed. The mean velocity (U), coefficient of viscosity (${\mu}$), unit width bed load ($q_b$), mean diameter of particle ($d_{50}$), unit weight of sediment in water (${\gamma}^{\prime}_s$) were adopted as the most influencing factors of sediment transport patterns. The prediction equation for sediment transport rate were developed with two dimensionless terms. These two dimensionless terms showed a linear relationship with high correlation coefficient.

  • This paper is aimed the measurement and estimation the thermal interrelation based on leakage current. The leakage models are analyzed by parameters in open and closed (Panel) states and with wood dust and rainwater, charcoal powder in leakage current occurred point. The thermal characteristic of open state that leakage current is inputted in 90 mA is higher in charcoal powder ($105^{\circ}C$) than in wood dust and rainwater ($88.8^{\circ}C$). Charcoal powder that is inputted in 110 mA shows high thermal characteristic ($238.6^{\circ}C$) and the thermal ($238.6^{\circ}C$) is caused by material strain of electrical wire insulation and Panel. The closed state in 90 mA is higher in charcoal powder ($250.6^{\circ}C$) than in wood dust and rainwater ($90.8^{\circ}C$). The open and closed state appear thermal characteristics of two times in charcoal powder than in wood dust and rainwater. The thermal data that are open and close states are used electrical fire investigation and thermal characteristic for Leakage current.

  • This study investigates the question of how political and economic factors may affect the export of renewable energy technologies. The relationships are tested using panel data for 19 OECD member countries over the period 1992-2012. Before establishing the empirical model, the current study checks the characteristics of the panel data, which includes various panel framework analyses, such as tests for the presence of normality, structural breaks, first-order autocorrelation, heteroscedasticity, cross-sectional dependence, panel unit-root. From the panel framework analyses, a dynamic panel model is established to test the relationship between the variables examined in this study. In order to reduce the bias of the estimation of the dynamic panel model and obtain efficient parameters, this study uses the bias-corrected least square dummy variable(LSDVC) estimator to estimate the empirical model. The results of this study show that governmental policies expressed as coercive pressure and market size positively affect the export growth of renewable energy technologies. However, public pressure and traditional energy industry have no significant effects on export performance. Policy implications are presented based on the results of this study.
