When the crossing frequency of a train meets the natural frequency of a railway bridge, the bridge is bound to become resonant. There are few available time response samples involving a train that passes a bridge at high speed. Very effective modal-parameter extraction techniques for such special high-speed railway bridge conditions are introduced in this paper. Utilizing the cross-correlations of the free-vibration responses after the train passes, mode shapes and the temporal modal parameters (e.g., natural frequency and damping ratio) are extracted using the TDD and SI techniques, respectively. This approach has been applied to a two-span steel composite bridge in the Kyung-Bu high-speed railway system. The estimation results were compared with those obtained using the existing methods. The results fully coincide with those that were extracted using the existing aforementioned technique.
The hierarchically penalized support vector machine (H-SVM) has been developed to perform simultaneous classification and input variable selection when input variables are naturally grouped or generated by factors. However, the H-SVM may suffer from estimation inefficiency because it applies the same amount of shrinkage to each variable without assessing its relative importance. In addition, when analyzing imbalanced data with uneven class sizes, the classification accuracy of the H-SVM may drop significantly in predicting minority class because its classifiers are undesirably biased toward the majority class. To remedy such problems, we propose the weighted adaptive H-SVM (WAH-SVM) method, which uses a adaptive tuning parameters to improve the performance of variable selection and the weights to differentiate the misclassification of data points between classes. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the competitive performance of the proposed WAH-SVM over existing SVM methods.
By extensive studies with the quantitative status of the mineral constituents of thousands of water samples, it was found that almost in all natural waters irrespective of the surface or sub-surface sources, minimum 99.5% of the total amount of the cationic constituents are generally the contributions of 3 commonly present parameters viz. Ca, Mg and Na and that of the anionic species are same and contributed by $HCO_3$, Cl and $SO_4$ only. In the field of water works, all these major mineral substances are conventionally measured as their individual ions. But till now, no reliable and generalised methods or rules have been developed for the determination of the exact kinds of the individual salt components and their amounts from these ionic constituents normally present in water. As salt content, only the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) parameter is frequently measured by evaporation of the water sample. But TDS can tell nothing about the kinds and amounts of the individual salts present in it. Considering the analytical importance of the estimation of the mineral substances as their individual salts, some generalised mathematical models have been developed by this research which are based on the 'hypothetical order of chemical combinations' as may occur among the ionic constituents. With the help of these models, one can easily assume the most probable salts with approximate quantities derived from the ionic constituents. In addition, approximate amount of Na content can also be estimated mathematically with simultaneous verification of the correctness of the water analysis results. The models are stated in this paper with practical illustrations and descriptions of the method of applications.
Effects of dilution rate, inlet glucose and ammonium chloride concentrations on ,he performance of continuous culture of Alcaligenes eutrQPhus for poly-p-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) production were investigated. When inlet substrate concentrations were maintained constant (inlet glucose concentration = 20 g/l, inlet ammonium chloride concentration = 2 g/l), growth rate of residual biomass and PHB production rate showed its maximum at $0.1h^{-1}$ and $0.06h^{-1}$, respectively, and washout at $0.13h^{-1}$. PHB content decreased from 50% to 25% by increasing dilution rate, while specific PHB production rate increased continuously. Cell mass and PHB concentration gave its maximum values at inlet ammonium chloride concentration of 2 g/l and thereafter decreased, which showed the existence of substrate inhibition by ammonium. When inlet glucose concentration was 30 g/l, cell mass reached its maximum value, while PHB concentration increased continuously. The parameters of kinetic model were evaluated by the graphical and parameter estimation methods. The computer simulation results for the effects of dilution rate, inlet glucose and ammonium chloride concentrations fitted the experimental data very well.

In this paper. we propose a new autocalibration algorithm. 3D-based image synthesis is roughly divided into two methods. One is using autocalibration method, and the other is using real 3D data like pattern information. The former is more progressive method. because there is no constraint or information about the scenes. Therefore autocalibration method has very difficult progress dealing with complicate non-lineal equations. Nowadays, constraints of camera intrinsic parameters are used in many researches. Therefore we solve the linear equations instead of complicate non-lineal equations. For example, to fix principal point of camera is a representative method.
New diagnosing method o flood possibility was proposed. The method can be processed by following steps: first, decide if current available water resources are above normal or not; second, compute a consecutive period above normal; third, precipitation is accumulate through the period; fourth, daily depletion (runoff and evapotranspiration) amount is subtracted from the accumulated precipitation and remains are translated to one day's precipitation, which is called effective precipitation; and finally, effective precipitation index. the larger effective precipitation index means the higher flood possibility. This method has been applied to the flood event occurred in the central region of Korea at late July 1996 and compared with the study by Korea Water resources Association (1996). The new method is proven to be much faster in computation, and therefore much better in practical use for emergency situation than current rainfall-runoff models. It is because the new method simplifies some steps of currently used method such as parameter estimation and water level observation. It is also known that new method is more scientific than any other methods that use accumulated precipitation only as it considers the runoff depletion in time
The friction velocity is a quantity with the dimensions of velocity defined by the friction stress and density of a wall surface at near wall of flow condition. Also, the friction velocity is the hydraulic parameter describing shear force at the bottom flow. Moreover, it is a very important factor in designing open channel and essential to determine the mixing coefficient in the main flow direction. The estimation of the friction velocity are such as methods using channel slope, linear law of the mean velocity at viscous sub-layer and direct measurement of wall shear stress, etc. In the present study, we propose a friction velocity equation that has been optimized by combining the concept of entropy, which is used in stochastic method, and to verify the proposed equation, the experimental data measured by Song was used. The R squared for friction velocities between proposed equation and friction velocity formula analyzed 0.999 to 1.000 in a very good agreement with each equation.

The object-oriented coding technique which is one of the coding methods in very low bit rate environment is suitable for videophone image sequence. The selection of source model affect image analysis. In this paper, an image analysis method for the object-oriented coding is presented. The process is composed of changed region detection andmotion estimateion. First, we use the standard deviation of frame difference as thrreshold to extract themoving area. If thesum of gray values in mask is greater than the threshold, the center pixel of the mask is regarded as moving region. After moving is detected in changed region by edge operator, observation point is determined from moving region. The motion is estimated by 6-parameter mapping method with determined observation point. The experimantal resutls show that the proposed method can significantly improve the image quality.

The seismic vulnerability of Turkey is relatively high due to its active fault systems with potential to create destructive earthquakes. Thus, reducing the loss of life and property, the number of the earthquake-prone buildings and their retrofit requirements are considerably significant key issues under the scenario earthquakes. The street survey based rapid assessment (SSRA) method can be considered as a powerful tool to determine the seismic vulnerability of building stock of an earthquake-prone city/state. In this study, the seismic vulnerability of the building stock of the Kirikkale province in Turkey is aimed to be estimated adopting the street survey based rapid assessment method (SSRA). For this purpose, central 2074 existing reinforced concrete (R/C) buildings were structurally surveyed with rapid visual site screening and disadvantages such as, the existence of short-column, soft-story, heavy overhangs, pounding effect and local soil conditions were determined for obtaining the structural performance score of each. The results obtained from the study demonstrate that 11-25% of the surveyed buildings in the study region needs to be investigated through more advanced assessment methods. Besides, higher correlation between increasing story number and unsafe/safe building ratio is obtained for the buildings with soft-story parameter than that for those with heavy overhangs and short-column parameters. The conformity of the results of the current study with the previous documented cases of rapid assessment efforts in the recent earthquakes in Turkey shows that the SSRA method for the Kirikkale province performed well, and thus this methodology can be reliably used for similar settlement areas.
