In the present study, we examine the dependence of solar proton peak flux at SOHO and STEREO on 3-D CME parameters (radial speed, angular width, and longitudinal angular separation between its source region and the magnetic footpoints of spacecraft). For this we consider 38 proton enhancements of 16 SEP events observed by SOHO, STEREO-A, and/or B from 2010 August to 2013 June. As a result, we find that the enhancements are strongly dependent on these three parameters. The correlation coefficient between proton peak flux and CME speed is about 0.42 for the cases the footpoints are located inside the lateral boundaries of angular widths, while there is no correlation for the events outside the boundaries. The correlation coefficient between peak flux and angular separation is -0.51. We find that most of strong proton events occur when their angular separations are closer to zero, supporting that most of the proton fluxes are generated near the CME noses rather than their flanks.

This paper employs dynamic conditional correlation (DCC) model to examine time-varying comovement in the Korean stock market with a focus on the financial industry. Analyzing the daily returns of KOSPI 200 eight sector indices from January 2008 to December 2013, we find that stock market correlations significantly increased during the GFC period. The Financial Sector had the highest correlation between the Constructions-Machinery Sector; however, the Consumer Discretionary and Consumer Staples sectors indicated a relatively lower correlation between the Financial Sector. In terms of model fitting, the DCC with t distribution model concludes as the best among the four alternatives based on BIC, and the estimated shape parameter of t distribution is less than 10, implicating a strong tail dependence between the sectors. We report little asymmetric effect in correlation dynamics between sectors; however, we find strong asymmetric effect in volatility dynamics for each sector return.

In micro-scale electromechanical systems, the power to perform accurate position sensing often greatly exceeds the power needed to generate motion. This paper explores the implications of sampling rate and amplifier noise density selection on the performance of a system identification algorithm using a capacitive sensing circuit. Specific performance objectives are to minimize or limit convergence rate and power consumption to identify the dynamics of a rotary micro-stage. A rearrangement of the conventional recursive least-squares identification algorithm is performed to make operating cost an explicit function of sensor design parameters. It is observed that there is a strong dependence of convergence rate and error on the sampling rate, while energy dependence is driven by error that may be tolerated in the final identified parameters.

We performed the point contact spectroscopy on newly discovered superconductor $MgB_2$ thin films with Au tip. In the point contact spectroscopy of the metallic Sharvin limit, the differential conductance below the gap is twice as that above the gap by virtue of Andreev Reflection. After some surface cleaning processes of sample preparation such as ion-milling and wet etching, the obtained dI/dV versus voltage curves are relatively well fitted to the Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk (BTK) formalism. Gaps determined by this technique were distributed in the range of 3meV~ 8meV with the BCS value of 5.9meV in the weak coupling limit. We attribute these discrepancies to the symmetry of the gap parameter and the degradation of the surface of the sample. We also present the temperature dependence of the conductance vs voltage curve and thereby the temperature dependence of the gap.
A nonparametric Bayesian multiple comparisons problem (MCP) for dependence parameters in I bivariate exponential populations is studied here. A simple method for pairwise comparisons of these parameters is also suggested. Here we extend the methodology studied by Gopalan and Berry (1998) using Dirichlet process priors. The family of Dirichlet process priors is applied in the form of baseline prior and likelihood combination to provide the comparisons. Computation of the posterior probabilities of all possible hypotheses are carried out through Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, namely, Gibbs sampling, due to the intractability of analytic evaluation. The whole process of MCP for the dependent parameters of bivariate exponential populations is illustrated through a numerical example.
In current microlensing planet searches that are being carried out in a survey/follow-up mode, the most important targets for follow-up observations are lensing events with high magnifications resulting from the very close approach of background source stars to the lens. In this paper, we investigate the dependence of the sensitivity to planets on detailed properties of high-magnification events. From this, it is found that the sensitivity does not monotonically increase as the impact parameter between the lens and the source trajectory decreases. Instead, it is roughly the same for events with impact parameters less than a certain threshold value. It is also found that events involving main-sequence source stars are sensitive to planets in a much wider range of separation and mass ratio, than those events involved with giant source stars. Based on these results, we propose observational strategies for maximal planet detections considering the types of telescopes available for follow-up observations.
We calculate in this study the pressure dependence of the frequencies for the Raman modes of A ($A_g$), B ($A_g$, $B_{2g}$) and C ($B_{1g}$, $B_{3g}$) at constant temperatures of 274 and 294K (room temperature) for the solid phase I of benzene. Using the mode Gr$\ddot{u}$neisen parameter of each lattice mode, which correlates the pressure dependence of the crystal volume and the frequency, the Raman frequencies of those modes are computed for phase I of benzene. Our results show that the Raman frequencies of the three lattice modes (A, B and C) increase as the pressure increases, as expected. The temperature effect on the Raman frequencies is not significant, which can be explained by the experimental measurements.
This paper describes on RF circuit simulation technique, especially on a RF modeling and a model extraction of a LDMOS(Lateral Diffused MOS) that has gate-width (Wg) dependence. Small-signal model parameters of the LDMOSs with various gate-widths extracted from S-parameter data are applied to make the relation between the RF performances and gate-width. It is proved that a source inductance (Ls) was not applicable to scaling rules. These extracted small-signal model parameters are also utilized to remove extrinsic elements in an extraction of a large-signal model (using HP Root MOSFET Model). Therefore, we can omit an additional measurement to extract extrinsic elements. When the large-signal model with Ls having the above gate-width dependence is applied to a high-power LDMOS module, the simulated performances (Output power, etc.) are in a good agreement with experimental results. It is proved that our extracted model and RF circuit simulation have a good accuracy.
Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of $Mn^{2+}$ impurity ion in Stoichiometric $LiNbO_3$ single crystal (SLN) was investigated with an X-band EPR spectrometer in the temperature range of 3 K~296 K. The intensity of EPR spectrum of $Mn^{2+}$ ion was increased to 20 K and decreased again below 20 K as the temperature decreases. The zero-field splitting parameter D decreased as the temperature increases. It was suggested that $Mn^{2+}$ ion substitute for $Nb^{5+}$ ion instead of $Li^+$ ion. No changes for hyperfine interaction of $Mn^{2+}$ ion was obtained in the temperature range of 3 K~296 K.
The characteristics of the parameters for the probability distribution of fatigue crack growth life, using the non-Gaussian random process simulation method is investigated. In this paper, the material resistance to fatigue crack growth is treated as a spatial random process, which varies randomly on the crack surface. Using the previous experimental data, the crack length equals the number of cycle curves that are simulated. The results are obtained for constant stress intensity factor range conditions with stress ratios of R=0.2, three specimen thickness of 6, 12 and 18mm, and the four stress intensity level. The probability distribution function of fatigue crack growth life seems to follow the 3-parameter Wiubull,, showing a slight dependence on specimen thickness and stress intensity level. The shape parameter, $\alpha$, does not show the dependency of thickness and stress intensity level, but the scale parameter, $\beta$, and location parameter, ${\gamma}$, are decreased by increasing the specimen thickness and stress intensity level. The slope for the stress intensity level is larger than the specimen thickness.
