Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Chitooligosaccharides on Pathogenic Halophilic Vibrio parahaemolyticus

  • Chitosan is a natural biopolymer of N-acetylglucosamine (-1,4 linked 2-acetamido-D-glucose), which is obtained after alkaline deacetylation of the chitin derived from the cell walls of lower plants and in the skeletal tissues of lower animals including arthropods and mollusks. In the recent studies, chitin and chitosan have attracted interest for converting them to oligosaccharides because the oligosaccharides are not only water-soluble but also possess versatile functional properties such as antimicobial activity (Jeon and Kim, 2000; Jeon et al., 2001). 참쑥 정유의 항세균 및 항진균 효과 (Antibacterial and Antifungal Effect by Artemisia lavandulaefolia Essential Oil)

  • Essential oil of Artemisia lavandulaefolia the chrysanthemum family plant used in the chinese medicine was extracted and antibacterial and antifungal activity with many kinds of the pathogenic bacterium and fungi was experimented by it. Ataphylococcus epidermidis and Streptococcus aureus gram positive bacterium at the concentration of 200ppm and Streptococcus mutans at the concentration of 1,000ppm showed the growth injibition effect of the cell. These showed statistically significant difference(p<0.05) Zymomonas mobilis Entrecoccus faecalis gram negative bacterium at the concentration of 200ppm and Pseudomonas putida at the concentration of 400ppm showedd the growth inhibition effect of the cell)p<0.05) V. Parahaemolyticus at the concentration of 800ppm and Pseudomonas aeruginosa at the concentration of 1,000ppm showed the growth inhibition effect of the cell(p<0.05) Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans yeast-type fungi showed the gorwth inhibition effect of the cell at the concentration of 200ppm(p<0.05) Altenaria mali Aspergillus nidulans and Fusarium oxysporum filamentous fungi took the growth inhibition effect of the cell at the concentration of 600ppm, 400ppm, and 100ppm. respectively.

식품위생관련 세균에 대한 가열처리 조건의 최적화 (Optimization of Heating Conditions for Bacteria Associated with Food Hygiene)

  • Response surface methodology(RSM) was applied to determine the optimum heating conditions(tem-perature and time) for the inactivation of bacteria associated with food hygiene. Coefficients of determinations(R2) for the cell growth were 0.9155(P<0.05) in Pseudomonas aeruginosa 0.8997(P<0.05) in Escherichia coli 0.9690(P<0.01) in Salmonella typhimurium 0.9393(P<0.05) in Enterobacter aerogenes and 0.7905 in Vibrio parahaemolyticus. The growth of strains was significantly affected by the temperature and time and reaction to temperature was most closely correlated to the inhibition of growth. On the basis of superimposed contour maps of cell growth the optimum range of heating conditions were 55.62-6$0^{\circ}C$ and 19.25-30 min.

산국 꽃의 Germacranolides (Germacranolides from Flowers of Chrysanthemum boreale Makino)

  • Two sesquiterpene lactones were isolated from the flowers of Chrysanthemum boreale Makino by the silica gel column chromatography and recrystallization. On the basis of spectrometric studies including $^1H-NMR,\;^{13}C-NMR,\;DEPT,\;^1H-^1H\;COSY,\;{13}C-^1H\;COSY$, IR and Mass, compounds 1 and 2 were identified as germacranolide, tulipinolide and costunolide, respectively. And they showed antibacterial activity against Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus and Staphylococcus aureus. This is the first report that Chrysanthemum boreale contained tulipinolide and costunolide.

설사 환자에서의 원인균 분리동정에 관한 연구 (Study on the Identification of Enteropathogenic Bacteria from Diarrheal Patients)

  • The specimens were collected from 89 diarrheal patients who had visited Pusan National University Hospital from June to September 1985. They were cultured and tested for the bacteriological identification of causative agents. In this study we identified 5 strains of Salmonella species, 5 strains of Shigella species, 2 strains of Y. enterocolitica, and 17 strains of enteric pathogenic E. coli. Enteric pathogenic E. coli were classified into enterotoxigenic E. coli, enteropathogenic E. coli, and enteroinvasive E. coli by serological type. We tried to isolate V. cholerae and V. parahaemolyticus too but we cannot find them out.

  • Many people living in Asia countries, particularly Korea, Japan and China, have consumed very widely fresh seafood products, such as shrimps, oysters, mussels and other marine invertebrates and fishes, without any heating or cooking. A variety of Vibrio spp., including V. parahaemolyticus, V. cholera. V. vulnificus, and V. fluvialis, lives in these seafoods and cause great problems associated with human disease. A strong antimicrobial agent to effectively inhibit the growth of these pathogenic bacteria in in vivo or in vitro is urgently need for preventing fish and human diseases. (omitted)

  • Vibrio choleae non-O1 has been reported to cause food borne gastroenteritis. This strain produces therm()stable direct hemolysin (NAG-rTDH) similar with that of Vibrio parahaemolyticus. As a result of rabbit ligated intestinal loop test, TDH caused fluid accumulation and is considered to be the major virulent factor. Hemolysis by TDH has been reported to cause colloid osmotic lysis of erythrocytes. (omitted)

오미자(Schizandra chinensis)의 병원성 미생물에 대한 항균효과 (Antimicrobial Effects of Schizandra chinensis Extract on Pathogenic Microorganism)

  • The growth of pathogens such as Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29737, Bacillus subtilis KCTC 1021 and Escherichia coli ATCC 11775 was inhibited as much as 1 to 4 log cycles in tryptic soy broth containing 1% of Schizandra chinensis extract but Salmonella tuphimrium ATCC 14028 and Vibrio parahaemolyticus ATCC 17802 were not inhibited. The essential oil of Schizandra chinensis showed stronger inhibitory activity than ethanol extract against above menioned pathogens. The growth of Listeria monocytogenes was not changed in minced pork containing 1% of Schizandra chinensis extract for 12 days at 4$^{\circ}C$. The sensory quality of hamburger patty such as taste, flavor and overall accepability were not decreased by the addition of 1% Schizandra chinensis extract(p<0.05).

  • A series of 2-aminothiazoles derivatives have been synthesized and tested for in vitro antibacterial activity on different microorganisms. Syntheses have been carried out following simple methodology in excellent isolated yields. The structure and purity of the original compounds were confirmed by IR, NMR, Mass spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. All compounds were tested for antibacterial activity against S. aureus, S. pyogenes, E. coli, P. aeruginosa, S. typhi and V. parahaemolyticus. These preliminary results indicate that some of compounds are exhibiting good activity.

산국 추출물의 항균력 (Antibacterial Activities of Extracts from Chrysanthemum boreale M.)

  • 산국과 감국의 용매분획물과 sesquiterpenoid lactones, Compound I, II를 4종의 미생물에 대하여 항균실험을 하였다. 이 중에서 산국의 chloroform분획과 sesquiterpenoid lactones, Compound I에서 B. subtilis과 V. parahaemolyticus에 대하여 항균력이 있었다. 그리고 야생감국의 chloroform분획과 sesquiterpenoid lactones 에서는 항균력이 산국보다 약하게 나타났으며, Compound II와 재배감국의 모든 분획은 미생물에 대하여 항균력이 전혀 나타나지 않았다.
