  • It is necessary to evaluate HMI inaspects of human factors in the design stage of MMIS(man machine interface system) and feedback the result of evaluation because operators performance is mainly influenced by the HMI. Therefore, the MMIS design should be reflected the operators psychological, behavioral and physiological characteristics in the interaction with human machine interface(HMI) in order to improve the safety and availability of the MMIS of a nuclear power plant(NPP) by reduction of human error. The development of human factors experimental evaluation techniques and integrated test facility(ITF) for the human factors evaluation become an important research field to resolve hi,am factors issues on the design of an advanced control room(ACR). We developed am ITF, which is aimed to experiment with the design of the ACR and the human machine interaction as it relates to the control of NPP. This paper presents the development of an ITF that consists of three rooms such as main test room(MTR), supporting test room(STR) and experiment control room(ECR). And, the ITF has a various facilities such as a human machine simulator(HMS), experimental measurement systems and data analysis and experiment evaluation supporting system(DAEXESS). The HMS consists of full-scope simulation model of Korean standard NPP and advanced HMI based on visual display nits (VDUS) such as touch color CRT, large scale display panel(LSDP), flat panel display unit and so on.

  • This paper presents the elastic behavior for panel zone and flange of connection in steel frame pier. The results of stress distributions on a series of experiments and FEM analysis models are reported herein. The investigations show that the shear stresses in the panel zone are varied with sectional-area ratio$(A_f/A_w)$ and also indicate that the nomal stresses in the flange due to the shea lag are significantly higher than the current design procedure. Based on the results, some new proposals considering the design parameters affecting connecting behavior are presented for the evaluations of stresses of panel zone and flange in connection.

  • An investigation was conducted to determine whether the ratio of the fluid to the charged particles affects the panel reflexibility rate and the drifting current flowing in the panel, in electrophoretic-based electronic paper. In this regard, three panels were produced in this study with the ratio of the charged particles to the fluid set as 1:5, 1:1, and 5:1. Each sample was driven using an identical input pulse, for which the current flowing in the panel and the output voltage of the photodiode were measured for the panel reflexibility rate. Consequently, the drifting current initially exhibited a peak value and a saturated value at a later point. This value was proportional to the ratio of the charged particles, and it was similar to this ratio when it is higher than 1:1. The output voltage of the photodiode due to the panel reflexibility rate was proportional to the ratio of the charged particles. However, the response speed decreased if the ratio was higher than 1:1. It is expected that the results of this study will contribute to the analysis of the charging of charged particles in electrophoretic-based electronic paper, and the selection of an appropriate concentration.

  • This study evaluated the flexural performance of steel and PP fiber reinfroced shotcrete using round panel test according to ASTM that can consider the actual stress of fiber reinforced shotcrete in tunnel and under ground structures. The results of round panel test are converted to the square panel test results according to the EFNARC. The energy absorptions of each fiber reinforced shotcrete were classified according to the EFNARC toughness classification. Test results show that the PP fiber reinforced shotcrete has better flexural performance compared with the steel fiber reinforced shotcrete.

  • In Korea, the seismic design of non-structural elements was interested by Earthquake of the 2016 Gyeong-ju and 2017 Po-hang. Among the non-structural elements, the ceiling system with steel panel used in Po-hang station showed failure examples of non-seismic design ceiling. In this study, the seismic performance of suspended ceiling with steel-panel, such as those used in Po-hang Station, was evaluated by shaking table tests. The shaking table tests were performed in accordance with the ICC-ES AC156 standard with floor acceleration being applied horizontally in one direction using a $3.3{\times}3.3m^2$ frame. The ceiling system consists of steel-panels, carrying channels, main and cross T-bars, and anti-falling clips. The anti-falling clip prevents the steel panel falling completely. The shaking table test confirmed that the damage at the previous stage had a direct impact on the damage state at the next stage. Through the shaking table test, the damage state of the T-bar type steel-panel suspended ceiling system was defined.

  • PURPOSES : The noise, which is typically generated by fast moving vehicles, can be intercepted by installing a noise barrier with a soundproof panel. However, reflections from the panels cause secondary noise, and hence lower the effectiveness of the panels. In this study, the reduction of reflection noise by considering the shape, especially zigzag one, of the soundproof panel have been evaluated. METHODS : The simulation model used in this study was Nord2000, which simulates real-road situations effectively. Based on the simulation results, the joining angle of $133^{\circ}$ with the pattern width (a) equal to 2 m and the projection height (b) equal to 0.5 m was adapted in the zigzag shape as the best profit designing factors. RESULTS: The measuring results at middle height, 15 m showed reduction at all points except the point with average -1.6 dB. At a greater height of 30 m, 2 points showed reduction. A real-sized facility was constructed to investigate the reflected sound from a zigzag shaped panel up to the height of 5 m. CONCLUSIONS: The reduction effects were detected in all the receive points in the range of 2-6 m distances and 1-5 m heights comparing the plane panel. Compared to plane panel, the noises are reduced at an average of 2.4 dBA.

  • The lock-in thermography was employed to evaluate the defects in railway bogies. Prior to the actual application on railway bogies, in order to assess the detectability of known flaws, the calibration reference panel was prepared with various dimensions of artificial flaws. The panel was composed of polymer matrix composites, which were the same material with actual bogies. Through lock-in thermography evaluation, the optimal frequency of heat source was determined for the best flaw detection. Based on the defects information, the actual defect assessments on railway bogie were conducted with different types of railway bogies, which were used for the current operation. In summary, it was found that the novel infrared thermography technique could be an effective way for the inspection and the detection of surface defects on bogies since the infrared thermography method provided rapid and non-contact investigation of railway bogies.

  • The test on the mix of PVA fiber of low carbon inorganic composite as a cement substitute found it to be satisfactory in terms of flexibility and stiffness. The result of the evaluation of the properties of low carbon inorganic panel revealed that the absorptivity was low at 8 to 9%, which is lower than the KS value of 25%. Also, the test on non-combustibility and gas toxicity found that these factors satisfied the decision criteria. In the test on heavy metals discharges, Pb, Cd, Cr6+, Hg, and As were not detected. Regarding far-Infrared emissivity and formaldehyde emission, the substitute was found to be harmless to the human body. Therefore, if the issue of shrinkage, which is a disadvantage of inorganic composites, is addressed, it is judged that it is possible to develop a low carbon inorganic composite panel with better performance.

  • The smoke density and noxious gas for phenol foam and polyurethane foam were measured according to test methods in ASTM E 662 and KS F 2271. It was observed that phenol foam had the possibility of application for sandwich panel and board compared with polyurethane foam. In the experimental results, phenol foam showed comparatively excellent property than polyurethane foam in smoke density and noxious gas. The polyurethane foam showed comparatively high smoke density and didn't meet the evaluation standard of noxious gas in KS F 2271. From the experimental results of smoke density and noxious gas, it can be said that phenol foam has both comparatively good safety and high possibility of application than polyurethane foam in the building fire of sandwich panel structure because of lower smoke density and noxious gas.
