Assessment of future hydrological behavior of Soyanggang Dam watershed using SWAT (SWAT 모형을 이용한 소양강댐 유역의 미래 수자원 영향 평가)

  • Climate change has a huge impact on various parts of the world. This study quantified and analyzed the effects on hydrological behavior caused by climate, vegetation canopy and land use change of Soyanggang dam watershed (2,694.4 $km^2$) using the semi-distributed model SWAT (Soil Water Assessment Tool). For the 1997-2006 daily dam inflow data, the model was calibrated with the Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiencies between the range of 0.45 and 0.91. For the future climate change projection, three GCMs of MIROC3.2hires, ECHAM5-OM, and HadCM3 were used. The A2, A1B and B1 emission scenarios of IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) were adopted. The data was corrected for each bias and downscaled by Change Factor (CF) method using 30 years (1977-2006, baseline period) weather data and 20C3M (20th Century Climate Coupled Model). Three periods of data; 2010-2039 (2020s), 2040-2069 (2050s), 2070-2099 (2080s) were prepared for future evaluation. The future annual temperature and precipitation were predicted to change from +2.0 to $+6.3^{\circ}C$ and from -20.4 to 32.3% respectively. Seasonal temperature change increased in all scenarios except for winter period of HadCM3. The precipitation of winter and spring increased while it decreased for summer and fall for all GCMs. Future land use and vegetation canopy condition were predicted by CA-Markov technique and MODIS LAI versus temperature regression respectively. The future hydrological evaluation showed that the annual evapotranspiration increases up to 30.1%, and the groundwater recharge and soil moisture decreases up to 55.4% and 32.4% respectively compared to 2000 condition. Dam inflow was predicted to change from -38.6 to 29.5%. For all scenarios, the fall dam inflow, soil moisture and groundwater recharge were predicted to decrease. The seasonal vapotranspiration was predicted to increase up to 64.2% for all seasons except for HadCM3 winter.

Effects of Energy Level of Concentrate Feed on Meat Quality and Economic Evaluation in Finishing Hanwoo Steers (거세한우 비육후기 농후사료 에너지 수준이 육질 및 경제성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of energy level of concentrate feed in finishing Hanwoo steers for 6 months before slaughter. Feeding trial was done with 2 treatment groups, IDN72 (72% of TDN in concentrate) and TDN74 (74 % of TDN in concentrate). The body weight (from 19 to 24 months) tended to be higher in TDN74 than in TDN72, but was not significant. Average daily gain of TDN74 was higher by 4.4 % in comparison to TDN72. There was no significant differences in concentrate, dry matter and TDN intake per I kg body weight gain between TDN72 and TDN74. And there was a tendency to improve crude protein intake per I kg body weight gain by increasing TDN content from 72 to 74 %. The dressing percentage tended to be higher in TDN74 than in TDN72, but was not significant. Salable meat percentage tended to be lower in TDN74 than in TDN72 because of higher body fat percentage in TDN74 than in TDN72. There were no significant differences in marbling score, meat color, fat color, carcass weight, rib-eye area and back fat thickness between TDN72 and TDN74. Significant differences were not found in shear value, cooking loss, water holding capacity or moisture and protein contents of longissimus dorsi (LD) muscles between TDN72 and TDN74. Fat content of LD muscles tend to be lower in TDN74 than in IDN72 but without any significance. There was a tendency to improve juiciness and taste by feeding IDN74 rather than TDN72. Especially, tenderness of TDN74 was increased by 7.4% in comparison to TDN72 (p < 0.05). Gross income from TDN74 was higher than TDN72 by 5% The results suggested that significant differences were not found in growth performance, feed conversion and carcass characteristics between TDN72 and TDN74. The results also show that more studies are required to clarify the energy level for finishing Hanwoo steers.

Physicochemical Characteristics of Fermented Milk Containing Mulberry Leaf Extract (뽕잎추출액을 첨가한 발효유의 이화학적 특성)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the physicochemical characteristics of fermented milks containing mulberry leaf extract. The mulberry leaf extracts were added to fermented milk at $0{\sim}2.0%$. The pH, acidity, numbers of viable cells, chemical composition and color values of fermented milk preparation were analyzed, and these samples were subjected to a taste test panel. As the ratio of mulberry leaf extract increased, the pH value of the fermented milk decreased proportionally and acidities increased significantly. The numbers of viable cells was highest in the fermented milk sample containing 0.5% mulberry leaf extract. In the chemical composition analyses, increases in the concentration of mulberry leaf extract led to a significant increase in crude protein, crude fat, and crude ash contents and a significant decrease in lactose content. Ca, Mg and K in the fermented milk were also significantly increased with the addition of mulberry leaf extract. As mulberry leaf extract amount increased, the lightness and redness values decreased, while the yellowness value increased. From the sensory evaluation of the fermented milk containing mulberry leaf extract, color, taste, texture and overall acceptability of the fermented milk sample containing 1% mulberry leaf extract was found to be much better than those of the other groups.

Seismic Performance Evaluation of Post-Northridge WUF-B Connections Frame (Post-Northridge WUF-B 접합부 골조의 내진 성능 평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the seismic performance of the frame which is assumed to be used with Welded Unreinforced Flange-Bolted web (WUF-B) connections and detailed in compliance with FEMA 350 recommended seismic design criteria. In FEMA 350, these types of connections are only valid for Ordinary Moment-Resisting Steel Frames (OMRSFs). For this purpose, based on test results, we proposed an analytical model for the Post-Northridge WUF-B connections with different panel zone strength ratios. Using the connection model, SAC Phase II three and nine-story frames were modeled and analyzed. From a nonlinear static pushover analysis, ductility, maximum strength, and the maximum interstory drift ratio were investigated for buildings with Post-Northridge details. Moreover, the maximum interstory drift ratio of each performance level (IO and CP) was also investigated through Incremental Dynamic Analysis (IDA). Analytical results were compared with those of buildings with either Pre-Northridge connection or ductile connections with no fracture. The analytical results showed that buildings with Post-Northridge WUF-B connections provide superior strength and interstory drift ratio capacity than buildings with Pre-Northridge WUF-B connections.

Analysis of Importance in Available Space for Creating Urban Forests to Reduce Particulate Matter - Using the Analytic Hierarchy Process - (미세먼지 저감 도시숲 조성을 위한 가용공간의 중요도 분석 - AHP 기법을 이용하여 -)

  • Despite recent projects to create urban forests to reduce the levels of particulate matter, objective evaluation criteria for selecting suitable sites for the projects have not been provided. The purposes of this study are to identify assessment items for the evaluation of available spaces for urban forests for the reduction of particulate matter and to analyze the relative importance of the items using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). We identified a total of 19 items in five categories through a literature review and a panel discussion. A total of 29 responses were collected from surveys given to experts, and an AHP analysis was conducted on the results. As a result, 'locational characteristics' (0.355) received the highest weighted value among the five categories, followed by 'planting type of existing green space' (0.184), 'weather conditions' (0.183), 'physical characteristics' (0.15), and 'human social environment' (0.128). In addition, among all the assessment items, 'proximity of source apportionment of particulate matter' (0.143) had higher weighted value while 'plantation of existing green space' (0.024) had the lowest weighted value. This study will present objective criteria and directions in the selecting of available spaces to create urban forests for the reduction of particulate matter.

Measurement of the Photon Fluence for the Evaluation of Photon Detection Efficiency of Photon Counting Sensor (광계수형 센서의 포톤계수효율 평가를 위한 포톤플루엔스 측정)

  • Recently, the various digital X-ray imaging devices using CCD and TFT LCD-based flat panel digital X-ray sensor are being used. In particular, a number of studies on photon counting sensor technique have been reported. In this study, the incident X-rays fluence on the photon counting sensor material was measured to estimate photon detection efficiency which is the quantitative performance evaluation factor of photon counting sensor. The result of measuring the photon fluence by using RQA-M2 Radiation beam quality of IEC 61223-1-2 recommendations, the incident photon fluence could be defined as about $4 photons/(0.01mm)^2{\cdot}{\mu}Gy$ within $10{\mu}m$ pin-hole area, and about $50photons/(0.03mm)^2{\cdot}{\mu}Gy$ within $30{\mu}m$ pin-hole area, and about $698photons/(0.1mm)^2{\cdot}{\mu}Gy$ within $100{\mu}m$ pin-hole area. Consequently, with the previously setup of the incident fluence, the measuring of actual photon counting efficiency by observing the output waveform of the photon counting sensor material was considered possible.

Characteristics of Seed Storage Protein Affecting the Eating Quality of Japonica and Tongil-type Rice (자포니카 및 통일형 벼 품종에서의 식미 관련 저장단백질 특성)

  • In this study, we analyzed seed storage proteins in order to investigate the main factors related to the eating quality of japonica and tongil-type rice varieties. Sensory evaluation was performed by a trained panel to assess the appearance (color and glossiness), flavor, taste, stickiness, texture, and overall score of nine japonica and three tongil-type rice cultivars. Moreover, the pattern of variation in rice storage proteins was examined by electrophoresis of protein extracts. The electrophoretic pattern of rice proteins showed 16.4 kDa albumin, 26.4 kDa globulin, 34-39 kDa and 21-22 kDa glutelin, and 14.3 kDa prolamin. In terms of storage protein, the varietal differences between japonica and tongil-type rice were found in albumin, globulin, and the ${\alpha}-1$, and ${\alpha}-2$ sub-units of acidic glutelin. Furthermore, the overall sensory evaluation score was observed to be positively correlated with albumin ($0.495^{**}$) and globulin ($0.567^{**}$), and negatively correlated with ${\alpha}-1$ glutelin ($-0.612^{**}$). Therefore, the results indicated that albumin, globulin, and ${\alpha}-1$ glutelin can affect the eating quality of japonica and tongil-type rice varieties, with the latter having lower eating quality than the former.

Ergonomic Evaluation of Refrigerator Design (냉장고 디자인의 인간공학적 평가)

  • Designers often hesitate to decide the shape, size, and layout of a product. Though ergonomic principles and data are absolutely needed in this process, they don have enough guidelines to refer. For the refrigerator designers, they also are not convinced of their decision: the vertical position of the freezing and refrigerating rooms, the height of shelves, the shape of door-handle, etc. To support the refrigerator design, we applied several ergonomic methods to the evaluation of refrigerator. EMG was measured to evaluate the load of users lumbar muscle. Based upon the experimental EMG data, we developed a model to estimate the relative load corresponding to the height of refrigerator shelves. Two different layouts of a refrigerator, R/F and F/R styles, were compared with the model. A three-dimensional motion analysis method was used to evaluate the users motion of using a refrigerator. Ten door-handles with the different shapes and positions were evaluated by tracking the rotations of the users arm. Video protocol analysis was used to evaluate the user interface of a control panel in a refrigerator. Finally, we suggested several ergonomic design guidelines based on the facts found in this research and the anthropometric data of the Korean adults. The results of this study can be applied to the ergonomic design of refrigerators

Quality characteristics and antioxidant activity of sponge cake with cabbage powder (양배추 분말을 첨가한 스펀지 케이크의 품질특성 및 항산화 활성)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the quality characteristics, antioxidant activities and sensory properties of sponge cake with cabbage powder (CP). Physicochemical and sensory properties of sponge cake with different amount (0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%) of CP were examined. As the increase in the amount of CP addition, the specific gravity and baking loss rate were increased, whereas the color of the cake crumb and crust, volume index and specific volume were decreased (p<0.05). The symmetry and uniformity index of the sponge cake were not affected by the addition of CP (5-15%) (p<0.05). The hardness was significantly increased while by CP addition cohesiveness was decreased (p<0.05). The springiness, gumminess and brittleness were not changed by CP addition (p<0.05). The total polyphenolic, DPPH radical scavenging activities and reducing power were significantly increased by addition of CP at high concentrations (p<0.05). In the sensory evaluation, addition of CP significantly degraded the panel preference related to the color, flavor and texture of the sponge cake. However, the highest point were given to sponge cakes containg 5-10% of CP in taste and overall acceptance (p<0.05). These data suggested that adding 5% of CP is the optimal concentration overall for making sponge cake. However, the sponge cake with 10% of CP is recommended in order to maximize antioxidant activity, the sponge cake was the best when contained 5% CP and the sponge cake prepared with the addition of 10% CP was recommended to use due to its advantages in functional property.

The Analysis of Science Curricula Reflected Programs in Astronomy Science Museums (천문과학관 프로그램에 반영된 과학교육과정의 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how much the programs of astronomy museums reflect the contents and objectives of current science curriculums. To attain the aim, comparison and analysis on the museum programs and science curriclum have been made. Five domestic astronomy museums have been selected. The contents and forms of their programs have been studied and appreciated by assessment instruments for astronomy museum programs. The assessment instruments were devised in consideration of both the science curriculums of the Ministry of Education(1997) and the achievement and evaluation criteria of the Korea Institute of Curriculum and Evaluation. The findings of this study are summarized as follows: The astronomy museums reflect most of the learning elements of science curricula concerning astronomy. These results indicate that the astronomy museum as an informal education institute is comparatively well connected to science education. The 5thgrade science curriculum reflected mostly on the museum programs, and too many of the astronomy museum programs were in forms of panel exhibition. Science curricula fared well but they failed to reflect the curricular objectives, which resulted in relatively low assessment scores. It is suggested that the findings of this study can be a foundation and act as guidance for selecting and developing astronomy museum programs which include the contents of the science curriculums more substantially.
