Dynamics and Instability of a Polymeric Paint in Roll Coating Process for Automotive Pre-coating Application (자동차 선도장을 위한 롤코팅 공정에서 고분자 도료의 동적 거동 및 불안정성)

  • 3-Roll coating process as a key application technology for manufacturing automotive pre-painted metal-sheets has been studied. The 3-Roll coating system for this study consists of pick-up roll for picking up and distributing coating liquid from the reservoir, metering roll to properly meter coating liquid in metering gap regime, and applicator roll for directly transferring liquid into metal-sheet surface. Flow dynamics and operable coating windows of a polymeric paint (primer) with shear-thinning rheological property have been correlated with processing parameters such as speed ratio and metering gap between pick-up and metering rolls. In the uniform coating regime, dry coating thickness increased with increasing metering gap or decreasing speed ratio. Ribbing and cascade instabilities were observed in low speed and high speed ratio conditions, respectively. It is revealed that lower speed ratio makes severity and wavelength of the ribbing increase, aggravating flow instability in coating systems.

Development of Leak Detection System of Heat Exchanger using Acoustic Emission Technique (음향방출기법을 이용한 열교환기 누설검출시스템 개발)

  • Acoustic emission(AE) technique has been applied to not only mechanical property testing but also on-line monitoring of the entire structure or a limit zone only. Although several AE devices have already been developed for on-line monitoring, the price of these systems is very high and it is difficult for the field to apply yet. In this study, we developed a specially designed PC-based leak detection system using A/D board. In this paper, AE technique has been applied to detect leak for heat exchanger by analyzing the characteristics of signal obtained from leak. It was confirmed that the characteristics of the signal generated by the turbulence of gas in the heat exchanger is narrow band signal having between 130-250kHz. Generally, the amplitude of leak signal is increased as the leak size increasing, but showed no significant change at frequency characteristic. Leak source location can be found by determining for the paint of highest signal amplitude by comparing with several fixed sensors. In this paper, AE results are compared with the PC-based leak detection system using A/D board.

  • An activated carbon-photo catalysis hybrid system is proposed for the treatment of VOC produced from paint booth. and its VOC removal performance is experimentally evaluated. Activated carbon tower is designed on the basis of the adsorption characteristics of toluene. Photocatalytic system is designed as the series of $TiO_2/SiO\_2$ fluidized bed reactor and $TiO_2$-coated filters. The present activated carbon-photo catalysis hybrid system shows the VOC removal efficiency within $75\~100\%$ under different VOC species and concentrations.

  • Bans on TBT based antifouling paints have been drafted since 1999 by meetings 42, 43, 45 and 46 for the MEPC (Marine Environmental Protection Committee) of the International Marine Organization, and decided finally at a Diplomatic Conference of the IMO in October 2001. It was a key issue that there should be a global prohibition on the application of organo-tin compounds as biocides in Anti-fouling systems by Jan. 2003, and a complete prohibition on te presence of organo-tin compounds on ships by 1 Jan. 2008. This paper suggests a method to design International Anfi-fouling system cretificate, Record of anti-fouling system, Endorsement of the Records, Declaration on Anti-fouling System, Port State Control and reform(legislative) associated a law.

  • Purpose: When the SURION Aircraft operated in the fields, cracks are found in PU(polyurethane) Strip on main rotor blade. This study has been conducted to explain PU(polyurethane) Strip crack phenomenon of SURION main rotor blade and to propose useful solution of it by experimental method. Methods: This study considered a lot of factor because the SURION is operated at severe environment. This study investigated the influence of temperature, thermal shock, paint and primer process, PU Strip material, primer material. Results: The results of this study are as follows; The primer process was most excellent influence. The Application of primer having a brittleness caused by a crack of PU Strip. Other factors have influenced on the PU Strip, but they can not be controlled because they are related to the SURION's operating environment. Conclusion: The Quality of PU Strip on SURION main rotor blade was improved through removing the primer process. Finally, the reliability of main rotor blade was guaranteed through improving the quality of PU Strip.

The Analysis of Wind Hole Effect for The Bangpae Kite (방패연의 방구멍 효과에 대한 분석)

  • Our Korean traditional cultural inheritance Bangpae Kite has the stable rectangular shield shape decorated with artistic paint or poem and a good flight performance due to the central wind hole. In this paper, to analyse the wind hole effect to kite performance we performed the wind tunnel testing of the various design factor of kite model and air flow visualization passing through the wind hole. As the result of aerodynamic analysis, we knew that the wind hole of kite displays similar function of slot system for the wing high lift device. This fact demonstrates that our ancestor understood the function of slot system and applied effectively to the development of kite flight performance.

  • This paper proposes a service which searches goods by images and finds a shopping mall site that offers referral services. In the service, images are obtained in various types. For example, paint function, images search based on pattern and shape. For this shopping mall system, it will be modeled using UML use case and class diagram. Also it will be implemented in JSP. It supports functions that searched various types of images by pattern and shape. In addition to features which were mentioned above, we aim to implement a shopping mall system to search and buy goods by improved information searching techniques, ultimately providing a space that realizes user's painting.

A Geographic Modeling System Using GIS and Real Images (GIS와 실영상을 이용한 지리 모델링 시스템)

  • For 3D modelling artificial objects with computers, we have to draw frames and paint the facet images on each side. In this paper, a geographic modelling system building automatically 3D geographic spaces using GIS data and real images of buildings is proposed. First, the 3D model of terrain is constructed by using TIN and DEM algorithms. The images of buildings are acquired with a camera and its position is estimated using vertical lines of the image and the GIS data. The height of the building is computed with the image and the position of the camera, which used for making up the frames of buildings. The 3D model of the building is obtained by detecting the facet iamges of the building and texture mapping them on the 3D frame. The proposed geographical modeling system is applied to real area and shows its effectiveness.

  • Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) with the DNA probe for human chromosome 4 was used to analyse in vitro radiation induced chromosome rearrangement in peripheral lymphocyte. Translocations, dicentrics, acentrics and color junctions involving the painted chromosome were scored according to the Protocol for Aberration Identification and Nomenclature Terminology (PAINT) system. The frequency of chromosome rearrangements including reciprocal translocation, dicentric, acentric fragment and color junction increased with radiation dose. The frequency of dicentric chromosome reduced by the fixation time following irradiation, whereas that of translocation was relatively persistent. The applicability of FISH for scoring stable translocation for biological dosimetry was demonstrated.

  • Flow control has been performed using synthetic jet on NACA23012. In order to improve aerodynamic performance, synthetic jet is located near separation paint on airfoil with leading edge droop and plain flap. The flow control using synthetic jet shows that stall characteristics and control surface performance can be improved through resizing separation vortices. Stall is delayed and stall characteristics are improved when synthetic jet is applied from separation region of leading edge droop. Control surface effectiveness is increased and lift is increased when synthetic jet applied at the flap leading edge region. The results show that aerodynamic characteristics can be improved through leading edge droop with synthetic jet at near separation and plain flap with synthetic jet at the flap leading edge. The combination of synthetic jet and simple high lift device is as good as fowler flap system.
