Studies on Tolerance of Mice to X-rays (X-선에 대한 마우스의 내력)

  • A total of 220 adult male mice (18-20g) of the S.M. strain were divided into ten experimental and control groups. The total-body X-ray irradiation doses used were 50 r, 100r, 200r, 400r, 600r, 800r, 1,000r, 1,200r, 1,400r, and1,600r. The respiratory arrest (mortality) caused by each irradiation doses were observed for 30 days. Relationships between irradiation doses and survival time and percentage of response were examined.   • In this paper, we investigated the diffraction grating efficiency on $Ge_{75}Se_{25}$ and Ag-doped amorphous chalcogenide $Ag/Ge_{75}Se_{25}$ thin film for used to volume hologram. The film thickness was 2 um and diffraction efficiency was obtained from He-Ne (632.8nm) and DPSS(532nm) (P:P) polarized laser beam on $Ge_{75}Se_{25}$ and Ag/$Ge_{75}Se_{25}$ thin films. As a result. for the films, the diffraction efficiency on Ag/$Ge_{75}Se_{25}$ double layer, was better than single $Ge_{75}Se_{25}$ thin films. The recording speed of DPSS laser is higher than that of He-Ne laser.

Purification and Characterization of Alkali-resistant Amylases from Pseudomonas sp. (Pseudomonas sp.로부터 알칼리내성 amylase의 정제 및 특성 확인)

  • Two extracellular amylase isozymes were purified and characterized from alkalophilic Pseudomonas sp. KFCC 10818 for the production of maltooligosaccharides. The molecular weights of the homogeneous proteins were 50 kDa and 75 kDa, respectively. The 50 and 75 kDa amylases showed optimum temperatures at 35 and $40^{\circ}C$, respectively. The optimum pH of the enzymes ranged from pH 6-8, and the enzymes were resistant to an alkaline condition of pH 12. Via the enzyme's actions, the final products from maltooligosaccharides or soluble starch were maltose and maltotriose. Calcium was a potent activator of the 50 kDa amylase. Finally, the N-terminal amino acid sequences of the 50 and 75 kDa amylases were QTVPKTTFV and DTVPGNAFQ, respectively.

The Study of Associations among Serum Lipids, Anthropometric Measurements, Food Intake Frequency and Nutrient Intake in Healthy Adults (중.노년층이 섭취한 식품 종류와 영양소섭취상태, 신체지수 및 혈중지질과의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the association among food intake frequency, nutrient intake, anthropometric measurements, and serum lipids in 100 women and 85 men aged 40-74yrs residing in Jeonju City. Food intake frequency and nutrient intake were obtained from one-day dietary recalls. The results were as follows : The mean height, body weight and BMI were 161 cm, 62.5 kg, and 24 kg/$m^2$respectively. The mean of SBP and DBP were 118 mmHg, 77 mmHg respectively. The mean of TC and TG were 185.5 mg/dl, 153 mg/dl respectively. The mean daily energy and carbohydrate intake was 85. 7%, 91% of RDA for Koreans respectively and that protein intake was 118.5% of RDA. The TC levels of subjects less than 75%, 75-125%, more than 125% of RDA energy were 176 mg/dl, 192 mg/dl, 185 mg/dl respectively(p < 0.01). The TC levels less than 75%, 75-125%, more than 125% of RDA protein were 180 mg/dl, 190 mg/dl, 175 mg/dl respectively(p < 0.05). TC levels less than 75%, 75-125%, more than 125% of RDA fat were 181 mg/dl, 193 mg/dl, 194 mg/dl respectively(p < 0.05). Of the subjects, 18% ate mushrooms. The BMI of the mushroom eaten was 24 and that of non-mushroom eaten was 25(p <0.05). Of the subjects, 28% consumed milk and milk produce. The mean level of TC and TG in milk and milk products eaters were 181 mg/dl, 131 mg/dl and that of non milk and milk products eaters were 197 mg/dl, 159 mg/dl(p < 0.001, p < 0.05). Of the subjects, 58% ate fish. The HDL-C of the fish eaten was 50 mg/dl and that of non-fishes eaten was 45 mg/dl(p < 0.05).

  • Recently, Ghim and Son (1993) compared the air quality impacts of two point sources P1 and P3 in Seoul in the first quarter of 1988, whose emission rates were 99.9g/s and 49.4g/s, and whose stack heights were 75m and 21m. They said that higher concentrations from P3 in the nearby area were responsible for shorter stack height of P3. But concentrations were not raised so high only because the stack height was reduced from 75m to 21m. Volume of exit gas from P3 was also much smaller than that from P1.

  • Let P be a commutator poset with Z(P) its set of zero-divisors. The annihilator graph of P, denoted by AG(P), is the (undirected) graph with all elements of $Z(P){\setminus}\{0\}$ as vertices, and distinct vertices x, y are adjacent if and only if $ann(xy)\;{\neq}\;(x)\;{\cup}\;ann(y)$. In this paper, we study basic properties of AG(P).

Quality Characteristics of Sikhye Prepared with Puffed Rice Powder during Saccharification (팽화미분 첨가에 따른 식혜의 품질 특성)

  • The pH, turbidity, color, brix, reducing sugar, total sugar, ketose, amino acid, protein and organoleptic characteristics of sikhye prepared with puffed rice powder (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% (w/w)) were investigated during saccharification. A higher concentration of puffed rice powder and longer saccharification time resulted in pH reduction (p<0.05) and tended to increase turbidity. A higher Hunter "L" value was observed with higher puffed rice powder content, except for the addition of 25% at 0 h. The Hunter "L" value peaked at hour 1 and slowly declined thereafter. Elevations in brix, reducing sugar, total sugar and sucrose were observed with higher puffed rice powder content and longer duration of saccharification (p<0.05). The sucrose content ranged from 0.79-0.86% (w/w) at hour 6, which was markedly lower than that of commercial sikhye. With time, levels of amino acid and protein increased (p<0.05). Sensory evaluation revealed moderate differences between 0% and both 75 and 100% (p<0.001), with 75 and 100% preferred over 0% (p<0.05).

Bonding Strength of Ozonized Soybean Oil-based Modified pMDI Adhesive Hardened at High and Medium Temperature (오존산화 콩기름 변성 pMDI 접착제의 고온 및 중온 경화 접착력)

  • This study was to investigate the dry bond strengths of the plywoods manufactured with 3 hours ozonized soybean oil (SBO)/polymeric methylene diphenyl diisocyanate (pMDI) adhesive at mid and high curing temperature. In results of the dry bonding strengths of the 3 hrs-ozonized SBO mixed with pMDI at high curing temperature were respectively the strengths of weight ratio of 3hrs-ozonized SBO : pMDI, 1 : 0.5, 4.74 kgf/$cm^2$, 1 : 0.75, 7.14 kgf/$cm^2$ 1 : 1, 9.29 kgf/$cm^2$, 1 : 2, 16.53 kgf/$cm^2$, 1 : 3, 17.42 kgf/$cm^2$, and 1 : 4, 16.75 kgf/$cm^2$. Therefore, it was found that the equivalent ratio was formed approximately between 3 hrs-ozonized SBO : pMDI 1 : 2 and 1 : 3. The dry bonding strengths of the 3hrs-ozonized SBO mixed with pMDI at medium curing temperature were respectively the strengths of weight ratio of 3 hrs-ozonized SBO : pMDI, 1 : 0.5, 3.16 kgf/$cm^2$, 1 : 0.75, 6.13 kgf/$cm^2$ 1 : 1, 8.18 kgf/$cm^2$, 1 : 2, 11.82 kgf/$cm^2$. In this experiment the higher bonding strength at high curing temperature was shown approximately between 3 hrs-ozonized SBO : pMDI 1 : 2 and 1 : 3. If this wood adhesive is used at high curing temperature, it is possibile to bond the plywoods.

Evaluation of Porcine Myofibrillar Protein Gel Functionality as Affected by Microbial Transglutaminase and Red Bean [Vignia angularis] Protein Isolate at Various pH Values

  • This study was investigated to determine the effect of microbial transglutaminase (MTG) with or without red bean protein isolate (RBPI) on the porcine myofibrillar protein (MP) gel functionality at different pH values (pH 5.75-6.5). Cooking yield (CY, %), gel strength (GS, gf), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were determined to measure gel characteristics. Since no differences were observed the interaction between 1% RBPI and pH, data were pooled. CY increased with the addition of 1% RBPI, while it was not affected by pH values. GS increased with increased pH and increased when 1% RBPI was added, regardless of pH. There were distinctive endothermic protein peaks, at 56.55 and 75.02℃ at pH 5.75, and 56.47 and 72.43℃ at pH 6.5 in DSC results, which revealed decreased temperature of the first peak with the addition of 1% RBPI and increased pH. In SEM, a more compact structure with fewer voids was shown with the addition of 1% RBPI and increased pH from 5.75 to 6.5. In addition, the three-dimensional structure was highly dense and hard at pH 6.5 when RBPI was added. These results indicated that the addition of 1% RBPI at pH 6.5 in MTG-mediated MP represent the optimum condition to attain maximum gel-formation and protein gel functionality.
