Numerical Simulation of a Reciprocating Compressor (왕복동 압축기의 성능해석 시뮬레이션)

  • A computer simulation model of a hermetic reciprocating type of refrigeration compressor has been developed. The compressor simulation model constitutes 6 control volumes, to each of which conservation laws of mass and energy are applied to yield full description of the refrigerant state along its passage. Instead of ideal gas assumption. real gas equation is employed. Some of valve-related input data required for the simulation are acquired from test bench experiments. The refrigerant states such as pressure and temperature, etc., mass flow rates, and valve motions can be predicted by the simulation. The calculated P-V diagram shows a good agreement with experimental result.

  • We report the systematic study to reduce extrinsic doping in graphene grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). To investigate the effect of crystallinity of graphene on the extent of the extrinsic doping, graphene samples with different levels of crystal quality: poly-crystalline and single-crystalline graphene (PCG and SCG), are employed. The graphene suspended in air is almost undoped regardless of its crystallinity, whereas graphene placed on an $SiO_2/Si$ substrate is spontaneously p-doped. The extent of p-doping from the $SiO_2$ substrate in SCG is slightly lower than that in PCG, implying that the defects in graphene play roles in charge transfer. However, after annealing treatment, both PCG and SCG are heavily p-doped due to increased interaction with the underlying substrate. Extrinsic doping dramatically decreases after annealing treatment when PCG and SCG are placed on the top of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) substrate, confirming that h-BN is the ideal substrate for reducing extrinsic doping in CVD graphene.

  • Let X be a reduced closed subscheme in ${\mathbb{P}}^n$ and $${\pi}_q:X{\rightarrow}Y={\pi}_q(X){\subset}{\mathbb{P}}^{n-1}$$ be an isomorphic projection from the center $q{\in}{\mathbb{P}}^n{\backslash}X$. Suppose that the minimal free presentation of $I_X$ is of the following form $$R(-3)^{{\beta}2,1}{\oplus}R(-4){\rightarrow}R(-2)^{{\beta}1,1}{\rightarrow}I_X{\rightarrow}0$$. In this paper, we prove that $H^1(I_X(k))=H^1(I_Y(k))$ for all $k{\geq}3$. This implies that Y is k-normal if and only if X is k-normal for $k{\geq}3$. Moreover, we also prove that reg(Y) ${\leq}$ max{reg(X), 4} and that $I_Y$ is generated by homogeneous polynomials of degree ${\leq}4$.

  • We study spaces of continuous-function-valued functions that have the property that composition with evaluation functionals induce $weak^*$ to norm continuous maps to ${\ell}^p$ space ($p{\in}(1,\;{\infty})$). Versions of $H{\ddot{o}}lder^{\prime}s$ inequality and Riesz representation theorem are proved to hold on these spaces. We prove a version of Dixmier's theorem for spaces of function-valued matrix operators on these spaces, and an analogue of the trace formula for operators on Hilbert spaces. When the function space is taken to be the complex field, the spaces are just the ${\ell}^p$ spaces and the well-known classical theorems follow from our results.

  • Let D be an integral domain with quotient field K, X an indeterminate over D, ∗ a star operation on D, and Cl∗ (D) be the ∗-class group of D. The ∗w-operation on D is a star operation defined by I∗w = {x ∈ K | xJ ⊆ I for a nonzero finitely generated ideal J of D with J∗ = D}. In this paper, we study two star operations {∗} and [∗] on D[X] defined by A{∗} = ∩P∈∗w-Max(D) ADP [X] and A[∗] = (∩P∈∗w-Max(D) AD[X]P[X]) ∩ AK[X]. Among other things, we show that Cl∗(D) ≅ Cl[∗](D[X]) if and only if D is integrally closed.

Assessment of endodontically treated teeth by using different radiographic methods: an ex vivo comparison between CBCT and other radiographic techniques

  • Purpose: To compare different radiographic methods for assessing endodontically treated teeth. Materials and Methods: Root canal treatments were applied in 120 extracted mandibular teeth, which were divided into four groups: (1) ideal root canal treatment (60 teeth), (2) insufficient lateral condensation (20 teeth), (3) root canals filled short of the apex (20 teeth), (4) overfilled root canal treatment (20 teeth). The teeth were imaged using intraoral film, panoramic film, digital intraoral systems (CCD and PSP), CCD obtained with portable X-ray source, digital panoramic, and CBCT images obtained at 0.3 $mm^3$ and 0.2 $mm^3$ voxel size. Images were evaluated separately by three observers, twice. Kappa coefficients were calculated. The percentage of correct readings obtained from each modality was calculated and compared using a t-test (p<0.05). Results: The intra-observer kappa for each observer ranged between 0.327 and 0.849. The inter-observer kappa for each observer for both readings ranged between 0.312 and 0.749. For the ideal root canal treatment group, CBCT with 0.2 $mm^3$ voxel images revealed the best results. For insufficient lateral condensation, the best readings were found with periapical film followed by CCD and PSP. The assessment of teeth with root canals filled short of the apex showed the highest percentage of correct readings by CBCT and CCD. For the overfilled canal treatment group, PSP images and conventional periapical film radiographs had the best scores. Conclusion: CBCT was found to be successful in the assessment of teeth with ideal root canal treatment and teeth with canals filled short of the apex.

The Availability of Gore-Tex® Tube as Nerve Conduit at the Peripheral Nerve Defect (말초신경 결손시 신경도관으로서 Gore-Tex® 도관의 유용성)

  • When a large peripheral nerve defect occurs, an autologous nerve graft is the most ideal method of recinstruction. But an autologous nerve graft has many limitations due to donor site morbidities. Many previous focused on finding the ideal nerve conduit. Among them, $Gore-Tex^{(R)}$ has several advantages over other conduits. It can be manipulated to a suitable size, does not collapse easily, and it is a semi- permeable material that contain pores. A round shaped nerve can be newly formed because of its smooth inner surface. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the availability of $Gore-Tex^{(R)}$ tube as a nerve conduit at the peripheral nerve defect in the rat sciatic nerve. The 10 mm nerve gap was made in each group. A $Gore-Tex^{(R)}$ tube filled with skeletal muscle was inserted and autologous nerve graft was harvested, respectively. In the experimental group, we placed a 0.5 mm thickness, $30{\mu}m$ pored, 1.8 mm in diameter and 14 mm length tube with skeletal muscle inserted inside. In the control group, the nerve gap was inserted with a rat sciatic nerve. We estimated the results electrophysiologically and histologically to 16 weeks postoperatively. Results in the nerve conduction velocity, total myelinated axon count, myelin sheath thickness and mean nerve fiber diameter, the experimental group was substantially lower than that of the control group, but the statistic difference was not significant (p<0.05). The morphology was very similar in both groups, microscopically. From the above results, We conclude that $Gore-Tex^{(R)}$ qualifies as an ideal nerve conduit. It is suggested that $Gore-Tex^{(R)}$ tube filled with skeletal muscle may, substitute for an autologous nerve graft.

  • In this paper we examine the hyperinvariant subspace problem for quasi-n-hyponormal operators. The main result on this problem is as follows. If T = N + K is such that N is a quasi-n-hyponormal operator whose spectrum contains an exposed arc and K belongs to the Schatten p-ideal then T has a non-trivial hyperinvariant subspace.

  • Knowledge management(KM) provides a means for organizations to interact with large groups of individuals, and as such, provides an ideal way for government bodies to interact with citizens. Although many private organization have long recognized the value of KM, the value have overlooked in public sector. The case of KSPO, one of leading public organizations in Korea, shows successful example in which KSPO succeeds in KM to improve working performance.
