The contribution of soil organic matter on the soil surface charge characteristic of paddy and upland soils weathered from granite or limestone was evaluated. The surface charge characteristics of the soils with and without soil organic matter by pre-treatment with hydrogen peroxide was determined at pH 3.5~9.0 range using the ion adsorption method. Regardless of soil organic matter removal, the soil surface negative charge increased linearly by the increase of pH with high statistical significance at all kinds of soils. Here, the differential increasement of soil surface negative charge by pH inclease, dCEC/dpH, was proposed as the parameter of pH dependency of the soil surface charge. The dCEC/dpH of soils with organic matter was in the range of 0.91~4.59, while it was dramatically decreased to the range 0.16~1.91 by the removal of organic matter. The soil surface charge derived from soil organic matter ranged from 15% to 82% to the total amount of surface charge. The magnitude of surface charge carried by 1% of soil organic matter showed considerable differences between soils from 0.22 to $5.03cmol^+\;kg^{-1}$. The effect of soil organic matte on the dCEC/dpH was higher in paddy soils with high oxalic acid extractable Fe than upland soils.

This research was aimed to investigate the effect of enzyme and the addition of chelators on rotting of the Kenaf bast. Enzyme rotting was effective only when the chelators were added with the enzyme. EDTA was a more effective chelator than oxalic acid under 1% concentration. There was no difference in the rotting effect under different enzyme concentration levels, and under different treatment time and temperature. Therefore, it was found that enzyme rotting can be carried out with low enzyme concentration(0.125%) at room temperature. Retting time can be shortened when higher enzyme concentration and higher temperature are applied. Cellulose I structure of kenaf fiber did not change after enzyme rotting, and different enzyme concentration did not affect the crytallinity structure. Non-cellulosic matters such as hemicellulose, lignin, and pectin were present in the descending order in the enzyme rotted kenaf fiber, and there were no differences in their amounts due to enzyme concentration levels. There was no difference in the dyeabilities of kenaf fiber rotted with different enzyme concentration levels. Enzyme rotted kenaf fiber showed better cyeability when pectin, lignin, and hemicellulose were removed.
Anodizing is a typical electrochemical surface treatment method that can improve the corrosion and insulating properties of aluminum alloys. The anodization process can obtain a dense structure. It can be used to artificially grow the thickness of an anodization film. Aluminum 3003 alloy used in this study is the most commonly used alloy for batteries due to its high strength and excellent formability as well as its weldability and corrosion resistance. Aluminum 3003 alloy was anodized at 0 ℃ with 0.3 M oxalic acid at 20 V, 40 V, or 60 V for 1 hour, 6 hours, or 12 hours. As a result of analyzing the composition of each specimen with an Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS), aluminum was converted into an oxide film. The thickness of the formed anodization film increased when the applied voltage and anodization time increased. High corrosion potential values and low corrosion current density values were observed for the thickest oxide layer. The anodization film formed by anodization acted as a protective layer. The electrical resistance increased as the applied voltage and anodization time increased.

The 5xxx series aluminum alloys are recently used in not only marine system but also automotive area because of a low density material, good mechanical properties and better resistance to corrosion. However, Aluminum alloys are less resistant than the purest aluminum such as 1xxx aluminum alloy. Electrochemical anodization technique has attracted in the area of surface treatment because of a simple procedure, a low-cost efficiency than other techniques such as lithography and a large volume of productivity, and so on. Here, The relationship between the corrosion behavior and the thickness of aluminum anodic oxide have been studied. Prior to anodization, The 5052 aluminum sheets ($30{\times}20{\times}1mm$) were degreased by ultra-sonication in acetone and ethanol for 10 minutes and eletropolished in a mixture of perchloric acid and ethanol (1:4, volume ratio) under an applied potential of 20V for 60 seconds to obtain a regular surface. During anodization process, Aluminum alloy was used as a working electrode and a platinum was used as a counter electrode. The two electrodes were separated at a distance of 5cm. The applied voltage of anodization is conducted at 40V in a 0.3M oxalic acid solution at $0^{\circ}C$ with appropriate magnetic stirring. The surface morphology and the thickness of AAO films was observed with a Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The corrosion behavior of all samples was evaluated by an open-circuit potential and potentio-dynamic polarization test in 3.5wt% NaCl solution. Thus, The corrosion resistance of 5052 aluminum alloy is improved by the formation of an anodized oxide film as function of increase anodization time which artificially develops on the metal surface. The detailed electrochemical behavior of aluminum 5052 alloy will be discussed in view of the surface structures modified by anodization conditions such as applied voltages, concentration of electrolyte, and temperature of electrolyte.
Instead of deodorization appararus of fish oil, an adsorbent such as activated charcoal, activated alumina, silicagel, bamboo charcoal was packed in column alone or mixed with preparative ratio, and then test the effective deodorization with bleaching. In the progress of degumming, the effective method was 18 ml of 2.5% oxalic acid per 100m1 of crude large anchovy oil. The optical condition to deacidified was treating for 30 min at $40^{\circ}C$ with 2.5% sodium hydroride solution. The effective deodorization was added with 3% silicagel under the alone treating adsorbent, and mixed treating was 30% activated alumina and 10% silicagel but added to green tea powder was not effective. The major fatty acid of total lipid were 16:0, 20:5n-3, 18:1n-9, 16:1n-7 and 22:6n-3 after treatment of degumming, deacidfication and deodorizing in the large anchovy oil. The oxidative stability of refined anchovy oil added to $\alpha$-tocopherol was validated 20 days under the control, and 30 days in the case of $\alpha$-tocopherol. The 0.01% $\alpha$-tocopherol was more effective than 0.02% $\alpha$-tocopherol.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) and ethylene-absorbent on the qualities of Prunus mume fruit. Prunus mume fruits were stored without film packaging (Cont), packed in LDPE film (Cont-P), and packed with ethylene-absorbent (Cont-PE). Fruits were treated with 1-MCP (1 ppm) for 24 hr at $1^{\circ}C$. After treatment, fruits were packed in LDPE film (MCP-P) and with ethylene-absorbent (MCP-PE) and then stored at $1^{\circ}C$ for 8 weeks. Total soluble solids increased during storage but decreased after 6 weeks while total acidity decreased during storage. Cont was almost completely decayed after 8 weeks of storage while Cont-P, Cont-PE, MCP-PE, and MCP-P were 46, 69, 83, and 5% decayed, respectively. L value decreased but a value increased during storage in all samples. Firmness of peel and flesh of samples decreased gradually for 8 weeks. Respiration rate did not show any significant difference among samples. Ethylene production of Cont showed $0.05{\mu}L/kg/h$ but immediately after 1-MCP treatment, it showed $0.02{\mu}L/kg/h$. Oxalic and malic acids decreased while citric acid increased during storage; fructose and glucose substantially decreased after 8 weeks whereas sorbitol and sucrose increased upto 4 weeks and then decreased thereafter. Based on these results, packing the fruits treated with 1-MCP could extend the freshness of Prunus mume fruit.

Recently, the application of bending products has been increased since the industries such as automobile, aerospace, ships, and plants greatly need the usage of pipes. For facility fabrication, bending process is one of key technologies for pipings. Induction heat bending process is composed of bending deformation by repeated local heat and cooling. Because of local heating and compressive strain, detrimental phases may be precipitated and microstructural change can be induced. This work focused on the effect of induction heat bending process on the properties of ASME SA312 TP316 stainless steel. Evaluation was done on the base metal and the bended areas before and after heat treatment. Microstructure analysis, intergranular corrosion test including Huey test, double loop electropotentiokinetic reactivation test, oxalic acid etch test, and anodic polarization test were performed. On the base of microstructural analysis, grain boundaries in bended extrados area were zagged by bending process, but there were no precipitates in grain and grain boundary and the intergranular corrosion rate was similar to that of base metal. However, pitting potentials of bended area were lower than that of the base metal and zagged boundaries was one of the pitting initiation sites. By re-annealing treatment, grain boundary was recovered and pitting potential was similar to that of the base metal.
Solid oxide fuel cells are clean, pollution-free technology for the electrochemical generation of electricity at high efficiency. Specially, the polarization resistance between electrolyte and electrode of SOFC unit cell is of importance, because it is desirable to develop SOFC operating at intermediate temperature below $800^{\circ}C$. The LSCF cathode prepared using modified oxalate method was investigated with different electrolyte. A precursor was prepared with oxalic acid, ethanol and $NH_4OH$ solution. The LSCF precursor was prepared at $80^{\circ}C$, and pH control was 2, 6, 8, 9 and 10. The precursor powder was calcined at $800^{\circ}C$, $1000^{\circ}C$ and $1200^{\circ}C$ for 4hrs. The crystal of LSCF powders show single phase at pH 2, 6, 8 and 9, and the average particle size was about $3{\mu}m$. The LSCF cathode with heat treatment at $1200^{\circ}C$ showed a plot of electric conductivity versus temperature. Unit cell prepared from the LSCF cathode, buffer layer between cathode and electrolyte and the LSGM, YSZ, ScSZ and CeSZ electrolyte. Also interface reaction between LSCF, buffer layer and electrolyte were measured by EPMA and the polarization resistance for unit cell with cycle measure using a Solatron 1260 analyzer.
The optimum regeneration conditions for the regeneration of three way spent catalysts (TWCs), which were taken from automobiles with different driving conditions, were investigated to evaluate the suitability as alternative catalysts for removing VOCs. The spent catalysts were washed with five different acids ($HNO_3$, $H_2SO_4$, $C_2H_2O_4$, $C_6H_8O_7$, and $H_3PO_4$) to remove contaminants and examine the optimum conditions for recovering the catalytic activity. The physicochemical properties of spent and its regenerated TWCs were evaluated by using nitrogen adsorption-desorption isotherms, XRD, and ICP. The relative atomic ratios of contaminants and platinum group metals (PGMs) of the spent TWCs were greatly dependent on the placed positions. The main contaminants formed were lubricant oil additives and metallic components. Also, the regeneration treatment increased the PGMs ratio, BET surface area, and average pore diameter of TWCs. The catalytic activity results indicated that the spent TWCs have the possibility for removing VOCs. Moreover, the employed acid treatments greatly enhanced the catalytic activity of the spent TWCs. Especially, nitric and oxalic acids provided the most improvement in the catalytic behavior. The catalytic activities of the regenerated TWCs were significantly influenced by the containing platinum ratios rather than the removal ratios of contaminants and the changes in the structural properties offered by the acid treatments.
This study investigated the synergistic effect of single inoculation and co-inoculation of phosphate-solubilizing bacteria (PSB) Burkholderia metallica JH-7 and Burkholderia contaminans JH-15. Phosphate-solubilizing abilities of these strains were assessed by measuring phosphorus content in culture media that were singly inoculated or co-inoculated with these strains for 7 days. B. metallica JH-7 was found to release the highest content of soluble phosphorus ($140.80{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$ ) into the medium, followed by single inoculation of B. contaminans JH-15 ($135.95{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$ ) and co-inoculation of two strains ($134.84{\mu}g\;mL^{-1}$ ). The highest pH reduction, organic acid production, and glucose consumption were observed in the medium inoculated with B. metallica JH-7 alone compared with that in the medium co-inoculated with both the strains. Results of a plant growth promotion bioassay showed 17.4% and 7.48% higher leaf and root growth, respectively, in romaine lettuce inoculated with B. metallica JH-7 alone than in romaine lettuce inoculated with a control strain. However, no significant difference was observed between single inoculation and co-inoculation of these strains with respect to phosphorus release and plant growth. Although the results of the present study did not show the synergistic effect of phosphate solubilization by the PSB strains examined, these results indicate that treatment with PSB exerts a beneficial effect on crop growth.
