During spawning season of female in a Korean oily bitterling, Acheilognathus koreensis, the ventral region near the base of the pectoral fin becomes to be protruded outward of body and enlarged. This ventral process consists of both organs as rectum (vent) and inner ovipositor. The rectum consists of mucosa, lamina propria-submucosa, muscularis, and squamous epithelial layer (peritoneum=serosa) surrounding them. The mucosa contains numerous mucous cells meaning acid mucopolysaccharides in nature. The inner ovipositor is similar to that of the rectum, but the mucosa have no mucous cell, unlike that of the rectum. Whereas, the outer ovipositor has a straight and long tube which are not connected with the ventral process any more. The outer ovipositor was similar to the structure of the inner ovipositor in the ventral process. However, the outer ovipositor has no muscularis, and consists of three layers: mucosa, lamina propria-submucoa, and squamous epithelia. The outer ovipositor without the muscularis seems serves as a tube that eggs discharged from the outer ovipositor allow to send inside mussel, unlike that of the inner ovipositor performing rhythmic contractions of the layers of the muscularies for propelling to the matured oocytes to the outer ovipositor.
Factors influencing elongation of the ovipositor in the bitterling Rhodeus uyekii were examined under several conditions. The ovipositors of the females were periodically elongated under the presence of mussels or males, and in some cases without either. When females were reared without mussels and males, the ovipositor did not elongate in one fish in a large aquarium, but it did become elongated in another fish in a small aquarium and in many fishes in a large aquarium. Duration of the elongated state of the ovipositor was 1~3 days (mean 1.2~2.5 days) and the periodicity of elongation was 4~15 days (mean 6.4~11.9 days). Length of the elongated ovipositor was 68~100% (mean 78.5~98.8%). Length of ovipositor in the interpeak period was 20~51% (mean 27.3~33.1%); in the post-elongation period it did not elongated further 3~30% (mean 11.1~19.9%). The effect of aquarium size and number of individuals in the aquarium on the elongation of the ovipositor, and inter-specific or inter-generic differences based on previous reports are discussed.

Tremex fuscicornis (Siricidae), known as the xylophagous horntail, and Leucospis japonica (Leucospidae), known as the parasitoid wasp, are wood-boring wasps belonging to the order Hymenoptera. These insects are interesting sources of biological inspiration for the development of drilling mechanisms. To study the biomimicry aspects, the morphological characters of the ovipositor of T. fuscicornis and L. japonica were analyzed using a stereoscopic microscope, a field emission scanning electron microscope, and an optical microscope. There were many differences in the ovipositors between the two species, such as shape, length, surface structure, and arrangement of the teeth. Evenly arranged teeth were developed at the tip of both the dorsal valve and the ventral valve of the ovipositor of T. fuscicornis and looked like a rotating drill bit. In contrast, in L. japonica, the teeth, which looked like a saw, were found only on the ventral valve. Moreover, the tip of the ovipositor of T. fuscicornis was symmetrically divided into four parts, while that of L. japonica was divided into three parts having a 2:1:1 ratio. However, in the case of T. fuscicornis, after the 14th tooth, four parts melded into three parts maintaining a 2:1:1 ratio, and a dovetail joint was found on the horizontal cross-section of the ovipositor that allowed vertical movement for making a hole. These morphological differences of the ovipositor may be due to the insects' lifestyles and phylogenetic distance. Finally, zinc was commonly found at the tip of the ovipositors of both species, a probable result of ecological adaptation created by drilling wood.
Female genital morphology of Cryptocercus Kyebangensis is described, focusing on the structural features of ovipositors at each developmental stage. Ovipositor valves were the first genital structures to appear in female nymphs. The caudal margin of the 9th sternum was nearly straight in the 1st instars of both sexes, with a slight median notch, but was deeply concave in the female nymphs of the End instar. The 1st valve of ovipositor budded off from membranous fold between the 8th 8nd 9th sternum and a pair of the 2nd valve came from the 9th sternum. Separation of styli occurred in the female nymphs of the 8th or 9th instar. Some parts of the female genitalia were sclerotized after the final molt. Spermathecae were the fork type and leaned a little to the right in the middle line of the genital chamber from ventro-posterior view. The trace sealed with sclerite materials existed on the spermathecal opening. The genital segments (segments Ⅷ, IX, and X) were concealed completely by the 7th tergum and sternum posteriorly expanded. Terminal lobes which exist in the Blattidae were not observed in C. Kyebangensis. Instead, the apicolateral emargination existed on the terminal abdominal segment of C. Kyebangensis females.
Factors influencing spawning or respawning conditions of the bitterling, Acheilognathus signifer were investigated in the aquariums. Inducing the female spawning was more sensitive to the mussel than the male. The ovipositor of the female was periodically elongated and reduced from 4 to 6 days with the presence of mussel. During of the elongated state of the ovipositor was 1 to 2 days. As the result of natural spawning in the aquariums, it takes 1 to 3 days (mean 1.6) to spawn. The most important factor to respawn spawned females again was the mussel. It takes 11 to 53 days (mean 29.5) from extraction to reextraction of females which have elongated ovipositor. The egg numbers of reextraction were 2 to 41 (mean 19). This experiments showed the tendency the more standard length of females grows, the more the number of extracted eggs increases.
Two species of the genus Parthenocodrus Pschorn-Walcher, 1958 (Hymenoptera: Proctotrupidae) are reported: P. elongatus from Japan and South Korea and P. puncticauda from South Korea. Parthenocodrus elongatus is easily distinguished by having posterior surface of propodeum without transverse carinae and ovipositor sheath with distinct longitudinal striations. Parthenocodrus puncticauda is easily distinguished by having posterior surface of propodeum with transverse carinae and ovipositor sheath without distinct longitudinal striations. This genus is also newly recorded in each country. Redescriptions and photographs of the diagnostic characters are provided. All specimens for this study are deposited in the Yeungnam University (YNU), Gyeongsan-si, South Korea.

Lepidoscelio viatrix is a potential biocontrol agent of the eggs of wingless grasshopper, Neorthacris acuticeps nilgerensis, in mulberry plantation in natural conditions. The present investigation was undertaken to understand the attachment of the parasite to the hopper under scanning electron microscope and the oviposition behavior of the parasite. The results reveal that the parasite grips firmly to the lateral and dorsal surfaces of the female grasshopper with its mandibles implanted in the intersegmental membranes of the abdominal segments. During oviposition, L. viatrix initially turn around the egg pod and protrude its ovipositor and insert into the eggs. It lays eggs inside the eggs of grasshopper by an up and down movement of the ovipositor, Further, field observations indicated a drastic fall in the incidence of the grasshopper population on mulberry, with the increased parasitization of L. viatrix.
We reviewed five South Korean species belonging to the genera Clistopyga Gravenhorst, 1829 and Endromopoda $Hell{\acute{e}}n$, 1939, which are recorded for the first time from South Korea: Clistopyga incitator (Fabricius, 1793), Clistopyga sziladyi Kiss, 1959, Endromopoda arundinator (Fabricius, 1804), Endromopoda detrita (Holmgren, 1860), and Endromopoda phragmitidis (Perkins, 1957). The genus Clistopyga can be distinguished from the congeneric species by distinctly upcurved ovipositor, with enlarged hypopygium, and Endromopoda by apical perpendicular teeth of ovipositor on apex. Diagnoses, illustrations and keys to South Korean species of the genera Clistopyga and Endromopoda are provided.
An experiment was conducted to investigate the annual reproductive cycle of a Korean endemic species, Acheilognathus majusculus, from Jeokseong-myeon located in Seomjin River. The reproductive cycle is examined histologically regarding water temperature and day length of the habitat, the gonadosomatic index (GSI), the female ovipositor length index (OLI), monthly variation in egg diameter distribution, and developmental characteristics of female and male gonads. The maximum GSI was found in $19.21{\pm}2.32$ and $6.90{\pm}0.53$ for female and male respectively when water temperature ($14^{\circ}C$) and day length (11.1hr) began to rise. On the other hand, the minimum level was reached during August ($1.87{\pm}0.67$ for female and $0.88{\pm}0.50$ for male). No samples represent with measurable ovipositor between September and November, while the longest ovipositor length index was in April ($79.68{\pm}4.69%$). We compared and calculated the stages of testis and ovary development process in order to determine the germ cell development characteristics and the reproductive cycle. According to the result, we classified the female Acheilognathus majusculus reproductive cycle into four stages: Ripe (April) and spawning phase (May to June), degenerative phase (July), growing phase (August to December), and mature phase (January to March). The annual reproductive cycle of male Acheilognathus majusculus was categorized into five stages viz. Ripe and spawning phase (May to June), degenerative phase (July to August), resting phase (September to November), growing phase (December to February), and mature phase (March to April).
Using scanning electron microscope, we studied the adult genital segments of pine needle gall midge, Thecodiplosis Japonensis, Uchida et Inouye Male: There were two pairs of hypoproct a pair of claspettes and aedeagus, Hypoproct were surrounded with many setae and sensilla. Clasperres which was projected below hypoproct was composed of two aegments and had many sensilla Aedeagus was long and flattened and possesed some sensilla at the terminal. Female :Ovipositor was segmented into three parts. Each segment had a different externla sturcture; particularly, the 2nd one was covered with reversed boat-like attachments and did not show any sensillum.
