Comparison between Overview Menu and Text Menu in Smartphone

  • Objective: This study determines which of two types of 2D menu is better on iPhone. Background: Menu systems have been important components in modern graphical user interfaces. Review of menu design studies for human-computer interaction suggests that menu design guidelines for smartphones need to be reappraised. Method: A nested factorial design was used. Twenty-four participants were divided into two groups. The subjects were nested within the menu type. Two types of menus are an overview menu and a text menu. Two different breadth levels are 16 and 64. The participants performed five tasks in each breadth level. A task is defined as locating a product or product class on the deepest level of the hierarchy. An Apple iPhone 2G was used. Results: The results for ANOVA indicated a lack of a significant difference for time to respond between the two types of 2D menus. The overview menu showed the better satisfaction score between the two menu types. Conclusion: Even though the differences were not significant, an overview menu tended to show better performance and preference scores than a text menu that required scrolling. Application: This study can provide menu design guidelines when 2D menus are considered for small displays in a high breadth level.

Effectiveness of Acupuncture, Mind and Body Practices, and Natural Products for Insomnia: an overview of systematic reviews

  • Objectives: This overview summarizes the evidence for the effectiveness and safety of complementary therapies for insomnia through systematic reviews (SRs) and meta-analyses (MAs). Methods: A comprehensive literature search on SRs and MAs for complementary therapies for insomnia was conducted using six databases. Results: This overview included 30 SRs/MAs. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) analysis of insomnia included 383 randomized controlled trials and 31,748 participants. Twenty-four SRs/MAs (80%) out of 30 SRs/MAs reported a positive result, and six SRs/MAs reported a partially positive result. The most frequently used form of acupuncture reported a positive effect in 89.5% (17/19) of SRs/MAs and a superior effect to western medicine, sham/placebo, and no treatment. The lack of protocol registration and the excluded studies list resulted in generally poor methodological and reporting quality in SRs/MAs with AMSTAR 2. Conclusion: This overview confirmed that complementary therapies positively affected the PSQI scores in patients with insomnia. However, better-designed primary studies are needed to strengthen the relevant evidence in the future. A more stringent assessment of multiple systematic reviews 2 must be followed when performing SR and MA.

  • We provide a brief overview of the area of speaker recognition, describing underlying techniques and current market review. We describe the techniques mainly based on GMM(gaussian mixture model) that is the most prevalent and effective approach. Following the technical overview, we will outline the market review of the area inside and outside of the country.

  • A large prropotion of structural failures are due to human error at the design stage of a structural engineering project, and many of these failures could have been prevented if there had been proper design checking. Analyses of the data from the 6 engineering firms and 24 professional engineer practitioners are shown on diagrams, also applicated for suggested models; overview checking. And then analyzed results of current work in this area, which examine the effects of error magnitude, are compared to the limit data obtained from the surveys. Overview checking only is analyzed of three typical design checking processes; self checking; Independent detailed checking, and overview checking.

An Overview of Unsupervised and Semi-Supervised Fuzzy Kernel Clustering

  • For real-world clustering tasks, the input data is typically not easily separable due to the highly complex data structure or when clusters vary in size, density and shape. Kernel-based clustering has proven to be an effective approach to partition such data. In this paper, we provide an overview of several fuzzy kernel clustering algorithms. We focus on methods that optimize an fuzzy C-mean-type objective function. We highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each method. In addition to the completely unsupervised algorithms, we also provide an overview of some semi-supervised fuzzy kernel clustering algorithms. These algorithms use partial supervision information to guide the optimization process and avoid local minima. We also provide an overview of the different approaches that have been used to extend kernel clustering to handle very large data sets.

  • This paper provides a general overview of surface catalytic recombination in hypersonic flow. The surface catalytic recombination phenomena is elaborated in terms of its general overview and numerical modeling associated with it. The general overview of the surface catalytic recombination phenomena describes the elementary surface reactions for the surface catalytic and the role of the surface catalytic recombination efficiency in the heat transfer determination. In the numerical modeling, the surface catalytic recombination is described based on the stagnation-point boundary layer analysis, and finite-rate surface reaction modeling. Throughout this overview manuscript, a general understanding of this phenomena is obtained and can be used as foundation for deeper application with the numerical computational fluid dynamics (CFD) flow solver to estimate the surface heat transfer in the hypersonic vehicles.
