The purpose of this study is to determine the inheritance consciousness among married people of the middle aged and the elderly. This study employed two complimentary research methods-survey and in depth interviews which were taken from married people over 50 in Seoul and Miryang, Kyungnam. The findings of this study are following : First, most of the middle aged and the elderly agreed to the necessity of inheritance because it may help to improve childrens household-finances and be a means to promote childrens social position. Second, most of them want to succeed before they pass away and do in accordance with their will. Third, the consciousness of the middle aged and the elderly married people about the son-oriented inheritance and the lineal family-oriented inheritance is medial, and they dont want the equal-divided and the optional inheritance.
As divorce and singlehood have been on the rise over the last decades, marital statuses are more diverse than the past for middle-aged men and women in South Korea. While marital status is crucial for health behaviors and statuses, but few studies examine the associations between health differentials and marital status for the middle-aged in South Korea. Using the 2010 Social Survey collected by the Statistics Korea, this study analyzes how health behaviors and statuses vary by the marital status. In particular, this paper examines whether marital statuses and gender interact to influence health behaviors and statuses. I find that married middle-aged people are healthier than divorced, single, and widowed middle-aged people. But this the negative influence of the non-married status are much greater for men than women. Some female non-married groups do not differ from married middle-aged people in some indicators of health behaviors. Single female middle-aged people are better in general satisfaction levels than married middle-aged people.

The purpose of this study was to examine the level of anxiety about economic change in middle-aged and elderly people and to analyze the factors that influence this anxiety. The data, derived from Korean General Social Survey(KGSS) were collected from Survey Research Center of Sung Kyun Kwan University. The samples included 821 people over the age of 40, including 529 middle-aged people who were from 40 to 59, and elderly people who were over 60. Multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the research model. The findings from the analysis showed that age and subjective economic status had crucial effects on the entire group's anxiety about unemployment and poverty, housing prices, financial markets, and economic recession in the older life. For the middle-aged group, age in particular had crucial effects on all the components of its anxiety about economic change. For the elderly group, geographical region was the most critical factor that affected its anxiety about economic change, the elderly people who were living in metropolitan area and towns had more anxiety than those who were living in rural areas. In particular, region was the only factor that affected the elderly group's anxiety about financial markets, and economic recession. These results showed that specific age of middle-aged and elderly people had the crucial effects while their sex, educational level, and the employment status of their spouse had no effects on their anxiety about economic change. Objective economic indices such as their earned-income and other income including savings and pensions had no effects on their anxiety level. While as noted above subjective economic indices such as their standard of living compared with their parents, projected economic status, and level of socio-economic success had an effect on anxiety about economic change.

Adults in their middle age are being held back by their roles through economic activities, but their rapid retirement and job sharing are adding to their anxiety. Also, it is very important to establish welfare policies for the elderly in the future because it can predict the economic situation in the old age through the economic activities of middle-aged adults. My study analyzed the 6th data of Kreis of the National Pension Research Institute's. The number of people studied is 2,552 employed people aged 40 or over 64 across the country. According to the analysis, there were more men than women. There were many high school graduates and 50s. There were many people who had spouses and who lived in the province. Wage workers represented 53.1% of the total. The lower the age, the higher the level of education, the higher the number of wage earners. Only 29% of standard workers and 30.8% of regular workers were employed. There were many economically unstable middle-aged adults. Economic instability in the middle age requires social attention because it can lead to poverty in old age. Therefore, measures should be taken to ensure stable jobs for middle-aged adults, whose spending increases more than their income.

This study examined data from National Pension Research Institute's 5th Panel Survey on Security for the Aged in 2013. The subjects of this study are middle-aged and older people aged 50 or older providing care for parents or grandchildren. The subjects are total 226, 53 parent caregivers and 173 grandchild caregivers. According to the results, both types indicate low depression, and their life satisfaction records over 3 out of 5. Grandchild caregivers show higher life satisfaction than parent caregivers. Any of the factors influencing depression and life satisfaction are not found to be significant in parent caregivers. Grandchild caregivers' educational level and health condition influence depression negatively and life satisfaction positively.
The survey was conducted by using questionnaires in order to investigate the expectation of over middle aged people on dietary living during their elderly life. Many persons(41.9%) anticipate that some kind of change will happen in dietary living during their elderly life. They are willing to prepare their own meals by themselves (73.5% of male and 86.6% of female). It is expected that they prefer various kinds of foods, korean traditional foods, home-made foods, natural food to processed food, and nutritionally balanced foods. The balance of nutrition and easiness of digestion should be primarily considered as a base of food choice, and then taste or convenience. The result of this study indicates that korean traditional food culture can not be easily changed. If food industries had a plan to produce some items for future silver generation, they should make efforts to develop processed foods considered the nutrition and digestibility, natural foods packed conveniently for home-cooking, and food preparation equipment used easily by elderly people.
This study aims to explore the lived experiences of middle-aged people with disabilities after a stroke. Using van Manen's phenomenological qualitative method, this study obtained information through interviews with middle-aged people with disabilities after a stroke. The following main themes were extracted from the lived experiences of middle-aged people with disabilities who were interviewed: 'a life broken in half', 'discontinuity and isolation of life', 'being born again', 'fear of stroke relapse', and 'overcoming all difficulties through harmony in a family'. Therefore, the core theme on the lived experiences of middle-aged people with disabilities after a stroke is a shadow of relapse over lives that have to protect families. The implication of this study's results on policy making and actual practices are discussed focusing on the well-being of people with disabilities and their families.
Purpose: This study was conducted in order to investigate the physical activities of vulnerable low-income middle-aged people and their associated factors. Methods: From a health behavior survey of 1,000 vulnerable low-income subjects from a public health center in a metropolitan city, a secondary analysis was conducted for 332 respondents who ranged in age from 40 to 64. Results: The prevalence of walking activity was 45.2% and that of moderately intense physical activity was 9.9%. Prevalence of walking activity showed a significant association with marital status (divorce/widowed/separated, OR=2.263), drinking (drinker, OR=0.430), and CES-D score (over 21, OR=0.434). Prevalence of moderately intense physical activity was greater in subjects who had two chronic diseases, compared with those who had no chronic diseases (OR=3.713). Conclusion: Findings of this study suggest a need for implementation of strategies to improve moderately intense physical activity of low-income, middle-aged people. Also, in addition to studies on socio-demographic and health status and their associations with physical activity, further studies of related factors affecting physical activity, such as self-efficacy, social support, and social networks as internal and external resources, are needed.
