Analysis of Messages Displayed on Gwanghwamun Billboard as Outdoor Advertisements (옥외광고물 광화문 글판의 게시글 분석)

  • This study analyzes the linguistic meanings of the messages displayed on the Gwanghwamun Billboard from summer 1997 to spring 2020. The Gwanghwamun Billboard, an important medium reflecting cultural and social changes in contemporary Korean society, has conveyed hope and solace to the public through various literary quotes and emotional messages. This research identifies frequently appearing themes and messages by analyzing the frequency of keywords in the postings for each season. The results reveal that spring and summer primarily feature messages emphasizing new beginnings, challenges, love, and human relationships, as well as the beauty of nature, while autumn and winter convey themes of reflection, growth, endurance, and resilience. This study demonstrates that the Gwanghwamun Billboard encourages readers to adopt a positive outlook on life through seasonally tailored messages.

A Study on the Production Techniques of Indoor and Outdoor 3D Advertising Content

  • Digital advertising, both indoors and outdoors, is evolving from traditional 2D formats to more immersive 3D forms. 3D advertising involves creating 3D content and displaying it through large LED installations on two sides of a building's corner, or using 3D hologram projectors indoors. This study examines the production process of 3D hologram projectors used indoors and LED-based 3D content used outdoors, analyzing potential issues and considerations when creating 3D digital advertising content. The findings reveal that while indoor hologram projector content provides 3D effects, the low resolution of the devices makes it challenging to implement complex content. However, they are cost-effective and easy to operate. On the other hand, LED-based 3D advertising content, produced in high resolution, requires more time for content creation and incurs higher hardware installation costs. Despite this, it effectively represents complex content and maximizes visibility due to its enhanced 3D effects. In conclusion, it is crucial to create tailored content that matches the resolution of the display device to maximize 3D effects in advertising. Specifically, when producing 3D billboard-style outdoor advertising content, the structure of the building on which it will be installed must be carefully considered.

A Study on the Distribution of the Peak Wind Pressure for Rooftop Signboards (건물 옥상에 설치되는 옥상 간판의 피크풍압 분포에 대한 연구)

  • Unlike other types of outdoor advertisements, rooftop signboards are installed on the roofs of buildings, rather than on their outer walls. This means that the area of a rooftop signboard is commonly larger than that of a general outdoor signboard. Moreover, as such signboards are greatly influenced by the wind, they can suffer a lot of damage from typhoons and strong winds every year. However, there is no wind load specification for rooftop signboards. In this study, wind pressure experiments were conducted to investigate the peak wind pressure on each side of rooftop signboards installed on the roofs of 5-15 story buildings in a city center. The minimum peak wind pressure coefficient was -3.0 at the bottom edges of the front and back of the rooftop signboards and -2.0 along the entire length of the sides. As the height of the rooftop signboard increased with the increasing height of the buildings, the peak value was found to be larger than the absolute peak value for the minimum peak wind pressure coefficient. The maximum and minimum peak wind pressure distributions of the rooftop outdoor signboards were influenced by the position of the signboard and the wind angle.

Implementation of AC Direct Driver Circuit for Ultra-slim LED Flat Light System (초슬림 LED 면조명 기구용 교류 직결형 구동 회로 구현)

  • LEDs are becoming the most suitable candidate replacing traditional fluorescent lamps because of its eco-friendly characteristics. LEDs are also actively used to design green building system and to make outdoor billboard as a back-light system due to its high energy efficiency. In this paper, we have developed AC direct driver for $12{\times}12$ FLB(flexible LED board) and LED flat light without SMPS. It has LID-PC-R101B driver IC that can support the high power factor and be composed of LED switching circuit in group. Also, an elaborate system designs can guarantee a high luminous efficiency, a high reliability and a low power consumption. The proposed FLB has the ultra slim shape of $450{\times}450$ mm, width of 4 mm and weight of 280 g. In the end, we have developed a prototype of FLB for billboard and flat light for room lighting with AC direct driver iposrder to verify the performance of the proposed system.

A Study on Improvement Direction of Public Service Advertisement to Prevent Drowsiness Driving on Highway (고속도로 졸음운전 방지를 위한 공익광고의 개선방향에 대한 연구)

  • The Korea Expressway Corporation announced that road casualties on expressways in 2016 were 262 deaths, a 24% decrease compared to 343 deaths in 2015, thanks to the expansion of rest areas for sleepy drivers. And the installation of large-sized banners containing strong messages such as "dozing while driving means your death" helped to reduce the casualty caused by driving while drowsy by 35% compared to that in 2015. Accordingly, this study tried to analyze the impact of public advertisements designed to prohibit dozing while driving on expressways upon drivers, and to present a direction for improvement of such public advertisements in the future. Based on case studies and library researches, the study contemplated the effects of public advertisements on expressways at home and abroad. It was confirmed that the accident rate has been higher on straight roads than on curved roads and that the framing of negative messages using provocative images or slogans on traffic accidents has been considerably effective. In conclusion, if the installation of outdoor billboards for public advertisements at rest areas for sleepy drivers is institutionalized and the systematic provision of information by road section inside and outside of vehicles via Variable Message Sign (VMS) services on expressways, outdoor billboards, or navigation services (including smartphones) is available, it would be possible to maximize the effect of the public advertisements.

  • This study dealt with the controller design of the cooling system for controlling the inside temperature of the LCD panel console(the rest console') using as an outdoor billboard. The cooling performance of the LCD console that had been developed by the preceding research, was insufficient in the performance of the controller. In order to improve the performance of the system, in this study defined the structure and the design condition of the system first, after measured the parameters having influence on the dynamic characteristics, and developed the mathematical model for the analysis of the system. Finally planned a controlling scheme of the system and simulated the controller for the performance checking, compared the performance of this system controller with the preceding one. The purpose of this study is the presentation of the more improving method for the system control.

Development of Deep Learning Structure for Defective Pixel Detection of Next-Generation Smart LED Display Board using Imaging Device (영상장치를 이용한 차세대 스마트 LED 전광판의 불량픽셀 검출을 위한 딥러닝 구조 개발)

  • In this paper, we propose a study on the development of deep learning structure for defective pixel detection of next-generation smart LED display board using imaging device. In this research, a technique utilizing imaging devices and deep learning is introduced to automatically detect defects in outdoor LED billboards. Through this approach, the effective management of LED billboards and the resolution of various errors and issues are aimed. The research process consists of three stages. Firstly, the planarized image data of the billboard is processed through calibration to completely remove the background and undergo necessary preprocessing to generate a training dataset. Secondly, the generated dataset is employed to train an object recognition network. This network is composed of a Backbone and a Head. The Backbone employs CSP-Darknet to extract feature maps, while the Head utilizes extracted feature maps as the basis for object detection. Throughout this process, the network is adjusted to align the Confidence score and Intersection over Union (IoU) error, sustaining continuous learning. In the third stage, the created model is employed to automatically detect defective pixels on actual outdoor LED billboards. The proposed method, applied in this paper, yielded results from accredited measurement experiments that achieved 100% detection of defective pixels on real LED billboards. This confirms the improved efficiency in managing and maintaining LED billboards. Such research findings are anticipated to bring about a revolutionary advancement in the management of LED billboards.
