Early glottic cancer can be effectively treated with surgery or radiotherapy showing the comparable treatment results. Since radiation therapy may be better in terms of voice preservation, it tends to be preferred in early glottic cancer. Most common recurrence site is glottis after radiation therapy and complete remission of glottic primary site followed by local recurrence limited to neck is very rare. The authors are reporting a patient with regional recurrence of central neck lymph nodes after radiation therapy for T1a glottic cancer.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report 20 patients who have been diagnosed with sudden sensorineural hearing loss(SSNHL) in the Korean medical hospital for last 3 years. Methods : 20 patients who have been hospitalized with a SSNHL in Korean medical hospital from June 2014 to June 2017 were analyzed by reviewing the patients' charts. Results : In the study group, Pure tone audiometry was performed in 17 patients. 3 of them showed 'Marked improvement' in pure tone audiometry. And 6 of them showed 'Slight Improvement.' On the other hand, 9 of them showed 'No response' or even got worse. However, the symptoms accompanied with hearing loss like tinnitus, aural fullness, vertigo improved most of patients. Conclusions : This study shows that the Korean medical treatment is effective in the SSNHL.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze recent research trend on pathology of Meniere's Disease and review the results in Korean Medicine. Methods : We searched MEDLINE on the title "Meniere's Disease" and "pathology" in recent 5 years and searched OASIS with KISS on the title "Meniere's Disease". Results : We found 21 studies on MEDLINE, 9 studies on OASIS and KISS about Meniere's Disease. The results are as follow. 1. In western medicine, the pathology of Meniere's disease is supposed to be related with endolymphatic hydrops and autoimmunity. The causes of endolymphatic hydrops are studied in various viewpoints such as disorder of endolymph drainage and homeostasis abnormality of endolymph. And autoimmunity is assumed to be associated with genetic factor. 2. In Korean medicine, Meniere's disease were mainly treated with acupuncture and hebal medicine. Conclusions : Korean medicinal approaches on pathology of Meneire's disease can be significant in view of endolymphatic hydrops. And on the basis of those outcomes, much more studies have to be researched for Korean medicinal treatment of Meneire's disease.

Objectives : This study aimed to analyze the recent acupuncture clinical trial on atopic dermatitis and to suggest the plan about how to improve its quality. Methods : Data were collected through electronic database including MEDLINE. We set up the search terms for "atopic dermatitis AND acupuncture" and limited period of data within 6 years and type for RCT(Randomized Clinical Trial), SR(Systemic Review). Results : Total 5 studies were selected. Two were RCTs, and the rest were SRs. RCTs were insufficient about acupoint selection criteria and foundation. SRs both pointed out that systematic clinical trial is required. Conclusions : Based on these, we suggested the plan as follows. 1. Selection criteria - We should reevalute the participants by using diagnostic criteria and scales. 2. Selection acupoints - We should present the foundation that why we choose these acupoints. 3. Establishing acupuncture and control group - We should make control group clearly after calculating the number of participants statistically. 4. Blinding - We should propse the method, type, procedure and evaluation about randomization. 5. Evaluation scale - We should select the suitable scales for research objectives.

Objectives : The objective of this study is to review the Trend of clinical trials conducted with the acupuncture treatment on Atopic Dermatitis. Methods : Through 4 foreign online databases(PubMed, Cochrane library, EMBASE, CNKI) and 3 domestic online databases(NDSL, RISS, OASIS), we searched for clinical studies performed acupuncture treatment for Atopic Dermatitis from 2010 to December 2019. Only randomized controlled trials(RCT) was selected and anlayzed according to the research method. Results : A total 4 studies were reviewed. LI11, ST36, SP10 were most frequently used acupoints in acupuncture treatment. Among the evaluation indexes, SCORAD, VAS, DLQI were used most. In most of the 4 studies, acupuncture treatment showed significant therapeutic effects. Conclusions : These results suggest that it is necessary to develop more detailed standards about Acupuncture treatment method as the method of acupuncture is getting more diverse, and objective tools are needed in evaluating Atopic Dermatitis.

Objective : Thread embedding acupuncture has become popular as a minimally invasive treatment for facial wrinkles and laxity. However, there is little published clinical practice guidelines about disinfection, sterilization and aseptic technique for thread embedding acupuncture. This study is to introducing a specific guidelines about disinfection, sterilization and aseptic technique for thread embedding acupuncture.Method : We reviewed internal regulations and guidelines about hospital infection, and Traditional Korean medicine doctors, nurses, and director of central supply room discussed in depth and established a regulation of disinfection, sterilization and aseptic technique for thread embedding acupuncture.Result : The regulation of disinfection, sterilization and aseptic technique for thread embedding acupuncture consisted of ① management of supplies, ② guidelines of disinfection, sterilization, and reuse, ③ aseptic technique for thread embedding acupuncture.Conclusion : Microbial management is an essential element of medical care and quality. Traditional Korean medicine doctors will care for disinfection, sterilization, and this should not neglect to comply with the procedures and guidelines in the medical field as well as to understand the aseptic techniques.

Objectives : 선태는 아토피 피부염에서 소양증 완화를 위해 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 면역계 및 신경계 손상을 일으킨 rat model에서 선태 추출물이 소양증 완화에 효과가 있는지 알아보고자 한다.Methods : 출생 48시간 이내의 rat을 대상으로, capsaicin(50 mg/kg)을 피하 투여하였다. 임의로 선정된 12마리의 실험군에 3주 동안 선태 추출물(0.5g/kg)을 매일 경구 투여하였다. 이후 scratching behavior 와 dermatitis score를 측정하였다.Results : 선태 투여군과 대조군에서 scratching number 와 dermatitis score의 차이가 없었다.Conclusions : 위의 결과로부터 capsaicin으로 유발한 아토피 피부염 rat model에서 선태의 소양증 완화 효과가 없다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 아토피 피부염의 효과적인 치료를 위해 면역계 뿐만 아니라 신경계 손상 회복시키는 약물을 찾기 위한 더 많은 연구가 필요할 것으로 생각된다.

The tracheocutaneous fistula(TCF) may develop infrequently as a complication after tracheostomy. Prolonged tracheostomy tube dependence increases the risk of TCF developing, and in growth of stratified squamous epithelium lines the furrow connecting the tracheal mucosa and the skin, accounting for persistence of the fistulous tract. Such fistulas are a nuisance and create nursing and social problems including poor hygiene, aspiration, difficulty with speech, and depletion of pulmonary reserve. Surgical closure has generally been successful by primary closure, fistulectomy with primary closure, and closure by secondary intention following excision of the tracheocutaneous fistula. No large series compares the efficacy of these techniques and each has its own merits. Recent literature has purposed to minimizing complications. For ten years, from January 1985 to December 1994, the authors experienced 25 cases of TCF which were analyzed in respect to incidence and interval of cannulation, duration between decanulation and fistular closure, precedent disease, closure methods, and complications of TCF repair.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to analyze the trend of Korean medical treatments on contact dermatitis. Methods : Based on NDSL, OASIS, RISS, KTKP, KISS, KCI with the keyword 'Contact Dermatitis', published in 2001-2020.06.10., total 12 studies have been found and analyzed. Results : Out of 1,046 articles searched, 12 papers were selected. All of those were case-study. Herb medicine, acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, externals, other treatments were used as treatment for contact dermatitis. All of research which selected have reported that the Korean medical treatment was effective. Conclusions : According to the results, Korean medical treatments can be effective treatment for contact dermatitis. Further clinical studies are expected using evaluation methods to analyze the results and to establish high level of evidence.

Objectives : The aim of this report was to evaluate the effects of Traditional Korean Medicine (TKM) in a patient suffering from abducens palsy. Methods : Acupuncture was applied to Left Sojangjungkyuk(BL66, SI2, GB41, SI3) for 15 minutes in all visits. Herbal medicine (Banggihwanggi-Tang) was administered regularly three times a day after each meal. Results : Patient's main symptoms remarkably improved after treatment. Conclusions : TKM therapy may be helpful in the treatment of ocular abnormalities related to abducens palsy.
