Natural herbs mentioned that have gastrointenstial protective property in Donggeuibogam and reports were evaluated anti-bacterial activity against Helicobacter pylori, then Ulmus davidiana var. japonica Nakai (YGP) were selected. The material used for the test were water extract of Ulmus davidiana var. japonica Nakai. They were tested individually on HCl ethanol-induced gastric lesion in rats showed the most significant effectiveness, respectively. Then YGP was made, and tested on HCl ethanol, indomethacin-induced gastric lesion, shay ulcer and gastric secretion. Conclusions : YGP showed significant effect on HCl ethanol, indomethacin-induced gastric lesion, and Shay ulcer. It can be regarded that the antigastritic and anti-ulcerative effects of YGP is originated from reduction of total acid output identified by gastric secretion test.

  • Objectives: Buja and Cheono, containing aconitine known for its cardiotoxicity, are not commonly prescribed, but they are necessary for some clinical conditions. Hence, consequences for electrocardiography (EKG) after short- and long-term dosage of herbal medicine including Buja and Cheono are here reported. Methods: From September 2014 to April 2015, 36 patients belonging to the sixth internal medicine department of the Dong Eui Oriental Medicine Hospital took herbal medicine including Buja and Cheono, and after these doses, they underwent an EKG. Thirty-one patients who took the medicine for 7-8 days comprised the short-term group, and 18 patients taking the medicine for 17-106 days comprised the long-term group. The results of the EKGs for each group, before and after dosage with herbal medicine, are compared. Results: No significant changes in EKG appeared in either the short- or the long-term group after taking herbal medicine including Buja and Cheono. Conclusions: If Buja or Cheono are prescribed along with other suitable herbs by a doctor of Korean medicine, no cardiac trouble will occur on an EKG regardless of the term of the dosage.

  • Jwagyuyeum and Woogyuyeum, being known to reinforce Kidney-yin and -yang, were tested for the effects of on free radical generating enzyme and lipid peroxidation in senile rat brain. In vitro, levels of lipid peroxide in tissues of brain were proportionally decreased to concentration of extracts prepared from Jwagyuyeum and Woogyuyeum. They were much more decreased, when lipid peroxidation was induced with ferrous iron ($Fe^{-2}$). In vivo, after both berbs were administered to the rat. levels of lipid peroxide in brain were decreased. especially it was much more decreased using Jwagyuyeum. Also, enzyme activities of xanthine oxidase and aldehyde oxidase in brain were decreased. The ratio of type conversion of the brain xanthine oxidase was lowered in both, especially Jwagyuyeum was much more done. These results suggest that Jwagyuyeum and Woogyuyeum decrease the activities of free radical generating enzymes such as xanthine oxidase and aldehyde oxidase which form lipid peroxide, Consequently both herbs might delay aging.

The results of this study were follows ; 1. Mahwangtang and Gamimahwangtang significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated rat tracheal smooth muscle by acetylcholine, and Gamimahwangtang more significantly effects than Mahwangtang. 2. Gamimahwangtang without Ephedrae Herba significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated rat tracheal smooth muscle by acetylcholine and less inhibited the contractile force than Gamimahwangtang. 3. Gamimahwangtang without Fritillariae Roylei Bulbus, Platycodi Radix, Cinnamomi Ramulus, significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated rat tracheal smooth muscle by acetylcholine and less inhibited the contractile force than Gamimahwangtang. 4. Gamimahwangtang without Armeniacae Amarum Semen, Glycyrrhizae Radix significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated rat tracheal smooth muscle by acetylcholine and its difference did not to the Gamimahwangtang. 5. Gamimahwangtang without Ginseng Radix significantly inhibited the contractile response of isolated rat tracheal smooth muscle by acetylcholine and more significantly effects than Gamimahwangtang.

  • As the IT technology develops there is a service on internet in which the herbal treatments from medicinal classics can be found in a form of a database. If an assay, and a verification on individual informations on materia medica and the herbal treatments from medicinal classics is established, it would be an enormously efficient asset for the formation of new treatment as well as interpreting the basic information on the efficacy of a treatment. If asp.net is used to make such a system, the user can have access to the informations on materia medica and its treatment without having to setting up a separate system, and especially the user can attain visual information on the genealogy of the herbal treatments in its formation. However, there is a need to develop a more efficient program in terms of organizing the informations on herbs and herbal treatments.

  • $\ulcorner$Uibujeolok$\lrcorner$ is a part of ${\ulcorner}$gogeumdoseojibseong[古今圖書集成]${\lrcorner}$ edited in 1726 Chinese Ching[淸] Dynasty. It refers ${\ulcorner}$Uibu[醫部]${\lrcorner}$ included in ${\ulcorner}$Bakmulhwipyeon Yesuljeon-Ha[博物彙編 藝術典下], and is composed of 520 volumes with 141 chapters. Though the name of Eubujeolok is used in most printed editions, the proper name was ${\ulcorner}$Uibujibseong[醫部集成]${\lrcorner}$ according to the original text of the copper type printing. Each category consists of 13 parts including Commentary, Diagnosis, and Organs and Bowels etc. And each chapter follows identical structure with categories. This composition type of ${\ulcorner}$Uibujibseong${\lrcorner}$ is similar with that of ${\ulcorner}$Dong-uibogam[東醫寶鑑]${\lrcorner}$ which was published 130 years ahead, but different from those of clinical books which published in China until then. Unusually there is no chapter dealing with Chinese herbs and acupuncture.
