  • To prevent energy waste in buildings used heat insulator. Heat insulator materials can be classified inorganic and organic. The organic material is due to toxic gas emission, when a fire occurs. And it has lower water resistance. The inorganic material is heavy and worse thermal performance than organic materials. This study focused on evaluation of the physical properties and fire-resistance of inorganic foam material for using industrial by-products materials for the applicability of Fire-resistance Light-weight material.

  • We demonstrated low-voltage organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) with bilayer insulators, high-k polymer and low temperature crosslinkable polymer, on a flexible plastic substrate. Poly (vinylidene fluoridetrifluoroethylene) (P(VDF-TrFE)) and poly (2-vinylnaphthalene) are used for high-k polymer gate insulator and low temperature crosslinkable polymer insulators, respectively. The mobility of flexible OTFTs is $0.17cm^2/Vs$ at gate voltages -5 V after bending operation.

  • Pentacene thin film transistors fabricated without photolithographic patterning were fabricated on the plastic substrates. Both the organic/inorganic thin films and metallic electrode were patterned by shifting the position of the shadow mask which accompanies the substrate throughout the deposition process. By using an optically transparent zirconium oxide ($ZrO_2$) as a gate insulator and octadecyltrimethoxysilane (OTMS) as an organic molecule for self-assembled monolayer (SAM) to increase the adhesion between the plastic substrate and gate insulator and the mobility with surface treatment, high-performance transistor with field effect mobility $.66\;cm^2$/V s and $I_{on}/I_{off}$>$10^5$ was formed on the plastic substrate. This technique will be applicable to all structure deposited at low temperature and suitable for an easy process for flexible display.

  • This study fabricated low thermal conductive polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based carbon fibers containing cellulose particles while maintaining their mechanical properties. The high thermal conductivity of carbon fibers limits their application as a high temperature insulator in various systems such as an insulator for propulsion parts in aerospace or missile systems. By controlling process parameters such as the heat treatment temperature of the cellulose particles and the amount of cellulose added, the thermal and mechanical properties of the PAN-based carbon fibers were investigated. The results show that it is possible to manufacture composite carbon fibers with low thermal conductivity. That is, thermal conductivities were reduced by the cellulose particles in the PAN based carbon fibers while at the same time, the tensile strength loss was minimized, and the tensile modulus increased.

  • In our previous reports [1-3], electron transport for the switching and memory devices using alkyl thiol-tethered Ru-terpyridine complex compounds with metal-insulator-metal crossbar structure has been presented. On the other hand, among organic memory devices, a memory based on the OFET is attractive because of its nondestructive readout and single transistor applications. Several attempts at nonvolatile organic memories involve electrets, which are chargeable dielectrics. However, these devices still do not sufficiently satisfy the criteria demanded in order to compete with other types of memory devices, and the electrets are generally limited to polymer materials. Until now, there is no report on nonvolatile organic electrets using nano-interfaced organic monomer layer as a dielectric material even though the use of organic monomer materials become important for the development of molecularly interfaced memory and logic elements. Furthermore, to increase a retention time for the nonvolatile organic memory device as well as to understand an intrinsic memory property, a molecular design of the organic materials is also getting important issue. In this presentation, we report on the OFET memory device built on a silicon wafer and based on films of pentacene and a SiO2 gate insulator that are separated by organic molecules which act as a gate dielectric. We proposed push-pull organic molecules (PPOM) containing triarylamine asan electron donating group (EDG), thiophene as a spacer, and malononitrile as an electron withdrawing group (EWG). The PPOM were designed to control charge transport by differences of the dihedral angles induced by a steric hindrance effect of side chainswithin the molecules. Therefore, we expect that these PPOM with potential energy barrier can save the charges which are transported to the nano-interface between the semiconductor and organic molecules used as the dielectrics. Finally, we also expect that the charges can be contributed to the memory capacity of the memory OFET device.[4]

  • In this study, we fabricated of pentacene organic thin film trasistor(OTFT), which used aluminum oxide for the gate insulator on glass substrate. Aluminum oxide for OTFTs was deposited on the gate layer by E-beam evaporation. aluminum oxide fabricated various deposition rate. In this case of the deposition rate of $0.1\;{\AA}$, the fabricated aluminum oxide gate insulator OTFT showed a threshold voltage of -1.36V, an on/off current ratio of $1.9{\times}l0^3$ and field effect mobility $0.023\;cm^2/V_s$.

  • We fabricated the thin-film transistors using organic semiconductor, pentacene, on $SiN_x$, gate insulator. X-ray diffraction experiments were performed for the sample after heat-treatments at higher temperatures. We confirmed that we obtained "thin-film phase" from the condition used here. From the electrical measurements, we also confirmed that no charges are accumulated at the interface between organic and insulating layer, and FET characteristics of the organic FET using pentacene was discussed.

  • The PVA (poly-vinyl alcohol) insulators were spun coated onto ITO coated glass substrates with the capacitors of Glass/ITO/PVA/Al structure. The effects of PVA concentrations (3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 wt%) on the morphology and electrical properties of the films were investigated. As the concentration of PVA increased from 3.0 to 5.0 wt%, the leakage current of device decreased from 17.1 to 0.23 pA. From the AFM measurement, the RMS value decreased with increasing PVA concentration, showing the improvement of insulator film roughness. The capacitances of the films with PVA concentrations of 4.0 and 5.0 wt% were about 28.1 and 24.2 nF, respectively. The lowest leakage current of 1.77 PA was obtained at the film thickness of 117.5 nm for the device with fixed PVA concentration of 5.0 wt%.
