Solubility, Antioxidative and Antimicrobial Activity of Chitosan-Ascorbate (키토산-아스코베이트의 용해성, 항산화성 및 항균성)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the solubility, antioxidative and antimicrobial activity of the freeze dried chitosan-ascorbate (CAs) and chitosan-acetate (CAc). In the results of solubility, CAs was soluble over 0.5% in distilled water, vinegar, green tea, soju (distilled liquor), beer and red wine, while it was not soluble in soy sauce, soy milk, milk, orange juice, coffee, sesame oil, soy milk and soybean oil. The solubility of CAc in the liquid foods was similar to those of CAs, but it was soluble less than 0.1% in beer, and formed curd in red wine. Electron donating activity, antioxidative activity and SOD activity of CAs were 48.2, 90.6 and 67.5%, respectively, while the activities of the CAc were 0, 40.0 and 10.0%, respectively. The minimal inhibitory concentrations of CAs and CAc were $200\;{\mu}g/disc$ against Bacillus circulans, Bacillus brevis, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus arabitane and Bacillus sterothermophillus, $400\;{\mu}g/disc$ against Escherichia coli O157, Listeria monocytogenous, Bacillus cereus and Bacillus subtilis. There was no significant difference in Hunter's L* value between CAs and CAc $(81.95{\sim}82.97)$, but Hunter's a* and b* values of the CAs was higher than those of CAc. While sour and bitter tastes of CAs were lower than those of CAc, there was no significant difference in astringent taste. From these results, it suggested that CAs has more extensive utility in liquid foods with antimicrobial and antioxidant activity as well as sensory quality compared to CAc.

A review on processing factors of pesticide residues during fruits processing (과일류 가공 중 잔류농약 가공계수에 관한 고찰)

  • A processing factor (PF) has been used to define the maximum residue limits of pesticide in a variety of processed fruit products. This study summarizes PF by the stage of fruit processing based on JMPR reports from 2010 to 2014. When we compared PF of 19 pesticides in apple products during the processing of washing, drying, canning, juice, sauce, puree and pomace, PF was higher than 1 only in pomace. In the comparison of 21 pesticides during the process of grape (washing, juice, wine and raisin), PF was higher than 1 in raisin. In the comparison of 19 pesticides during the process of orange (juice, oil and marmalade), PF was higher than 1 in oil. When 27 pesticides were compared during the process of tomato (juice, puree and paste), paste showed the highest PF value except pomace. During the process of plum (washing, drying and puree) with 12 pesticides, PF was higher than 1 in drying. The correlation coefficients between physical characteristics of pesticide (fat-solubility and volatility) and PF were statistically significant in the processes of apple juice, orange juice, tomato puree and paste and strawberry jam.

Analysis on Cosmetics Behavior and Cosmetics Preference of Women Aged in their 20's (20대 여성의 화장 행동과 화장품 선호도 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to observe the makeup behavior and cosmetics preference based on the segmented age group and fashion appearance interested group. The target consumers were women aged in their 20's. We distributed 443 questionnaires and conducted statistical analysis using SPSS program for the 400 reliable questionnaires. Statistical analyses included frequency, Chi-square test, t-test, ANOVA and cluster analysis(K-means). The results of this study were as follows: 1. There was a significant association between specific cosmetic items currently used and segmented age group. The age 24-29 had more basic makeup than color makeup, compared to the age 20-23 group. There was a statistical difference between the highly interested group and the lowly interested group in fashion and beauty. The group of highly interested in fashion and beauty considered trendy colors, while the group of lowly interested in fashion and beauty used their favorite color as an important factor in purchasing makeup products. 2. There was a significant difference in the preference of lip colors and textures, eye shadows textures, types of eye liner and types of foundation according to segmented age groups. 3. Those who sought 'sexy' images preferred red/wine/purple lipstick colors, and green/blue/violet eye shadow colors. They significantly preferred jell/liquid type eye liner and liquid type foundation. Those who sought 'pure' images preferred orange colors and glossy textures of lipsticks. Those who sought 'elegant' and 'intellectual' images preferred pearl type eye shadow.

Chronological Trends of Fashion and Make-up in 1990s for the Next Millennium (밀레니엄을 맞이하는 1990년대 패션과 메이크업의 경향)

  • This paper analyzes the trend of fashion and make-up in 1990s and their relevancy to each other. Based on the chronological analysis, we propose a new category for the fashion and make-up trend in 1990s, which is 1) traditional ecology period(1990∼1994), 2) versatile trial or decadent period(1995∼1997), and 3) soft landing period based on the minimal neo-ecology and romanticism(1998∼2000). Between 1990 and 1994, there was no differentiation in seasons. It appeared that spring/summer and fall/winter trend have had no big differences. At the beginning in 1990s, it was basically based on ecology concept that emphasizes the natural image. However after 1995, seasonal differences in trend are appeared and there were various make-up designs. The trends of spring/summer in 1996 could be named as color revolution period that emphasized the unique and individual expression of each person. In 1997, black, pastel, and brown colors were the result of reinterpreting the classic and sexy images of 1960s to natural and modernistic image of 1997. Purple color started to be introduced to us. In 1998, pastel tone, pink, and purple color expresses the glamorous look based on the romantic feminism. S/S of 1999 is mainly represented by minimalism and avant garde. For fall/winter trends, brown color lines make-up comes to mix with romantic image and developed into wine, orange, neon colors in 1995 and 1996. These colors were the symbol of property and sentiment. Gold make-up emphasizing the eye area was the tendency of that period. In 1997, the fear of coming end of century was expressed as decadent image. At that time, ethnic and romantic image appeared with vivid color lines, gold, red and violet. In 1998, romanticism was popular again with modernism and ethnic mood. It expressed the romantic elegant image. The trend has returned to the ecology mood again in 1999. This ecology is somewhat different from the previous ecology. It adds a sofistaiced feeling and sportic fashion. To express natural and sportic image, they choose pink blush. In coming 2000 as a new millennium, the yellow color will be main the stream to express vision, dream, and happiness in both fashion and make-up as an accent color. The minimal design and minimal tools will be used for the design and make-up, respectively. In addition, the fusion concept will dominate the fashion and make-up industry in the globalized and boundariless age. Through this paper, we hope that make-up can be accepted as a part of total fashion in its relationship with other elements such as shoes, clothes and accessory and that it can be considered as a independent art that has direct influence on people and industry.

A Study of Fashion and Make-up Trend in 1990s (1990년대의 패션과 메이크업 경향에 관한 연구)

  • The main focus of this paper is to provide clear understanding about the concept of make-up as total fashion by defining the essential meaning of it. First, we would like to go over the concept of make-up and total fashion, then analyze the make-up image, the changes of colors and images of make-up overtime and fashion that have influenced over those changes. In this paper, we analyze the trend of fashion and make-up in 1990s and their relevancy. Through this paper we hope that make-up can be accepted as a part of total fashion in its relationship with other elements such as shoes, clothes and accessory and that it can be considered as a independent art that has direct influence on people. The trend of Spring/Summer between 1990 and 92is the image of natural beauty and comfortable and modernistic image that can be experienced through nature. In 1992, there was a revival look of 1960s and 1970s. Make-up also followed this trend. The overall color tone was to give natural and stable images with pastel tone to soften the images. This tone brought back the ecology of 1960s. The theme of restoration in humanity and nostalgia was reflected in clothing, and these trend changed the ecology of make-up to peace, love and romantic ecology which was expressed in coral, blue, and green tone to create intelligent image of woman. Year 1996 could be called as color revolution period that emphasized the unique and individual expression of each person. Effect of acidic beverages on surface roughness and color stability of artificial teeth and acrylic resin

  • PURPOSE. The aim was to evaluate the effect of four acidic beverages on the roughness (Ra) and color change (ΔEab) of two brands of artificial teeth and a heat-polymerized acrylic resin (HPAR) for use in a prosthetic base. MATERIALS AND METHODS. All materials were divided into 5 groups, according to the used acidic beverage (artificial saliva - control, red wine, orange juice, coke-based, and lemon juice-based soft drink). The immersion process was divided into two stages: T1 - immersion in the acidic solutions for 10 minutes for 14 days; T2 - after T1, the samples were immersed in grape juice for 14 days. The Ra of the samples was evaluated in a rugosimeter and the ΔEab in a spectrophotometer, before and after the immersions. The analysis of variance of one (ΔEab) and two factors (Ra) and Tukey were performed (α=.05). RESULTS. There was a statistical difference for roughness after immersion (T1) for Trilux and Tritone teeth, regardless of the acid solution. For Trilux teeth, all acid solutions increased Ra (P<.05). For Tritone teeth, only the coke-based soft drink did not statistically change Ra. Grape juice (T2) altered Ra only of artificial teeth (P<.05). The color was changed for all materials, after T1 and T2. CONCLUSION. In general, the acidic solutions changed the Ra and ΔEab of HPAR and artificial teeth after T1. The grape juice altered the roughness only of the artificial teeth, promoting a clinically acceptable color change in the materials.
