  • Objectives : The object of this study is to report the effectiveness of Korean medicine treatment and to urge in-depth research on plantar fasciitis. Methods : Four patients, diagnosed as plantar fasciitis, were treated by Korean medicine interventions; acupuncture at K13, BL60, BL40, indirect moxibustion at local region, oral intake herbal medicine and Korean physical therapy on plantar fascia. Visual analog scale(VAS) was adpoted as a method of measuring the effect of treatment on plantar pain. Results : As a result, the plantar pain decreased and VAS score was declined at three cases. However, at one case, the symptom was not changed and VAS score was same. Conclusions : Korean rehabilitative complex therapy can be effectively used for plantar fasciitis. Further studies are needed to set up a rehabilitation protocol with Korean medicine interventions on this disease.

Methods: This study used data from the 2015 Korean Community Health Survey with the subjects of 541 spouses of older adults with dementia. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: In this study, 26.5% of quality of life was explained by employment status, physical activity, perception of stress, perception of depressive symptom, self-rated health status, self-rated oral health status, and contact with neighbors. Conclusion: To develop more effective nursing intervention for improvement of quality of life, it needs to consider not only the individual system related factors but also community system related factors including contact with neighbors.

As the result of present study the following conclusions were obtained. 1. The total six cases of cementoma consisted of four cases (67%) of male and two cases (33%) of female. The ratio between male are female was 1:2. 2. Three of 6 cases occurred in the decade and the mean age was 43.5 years. 3. All six cases occurred in the mandible and the favorite site was the molar region rather than anterior portion. The involvement of multiple teeth was the characteristic feature of the lesion. 4. The swelling of the jaw bone was the main symptom in all cases. 5. By the histopathological classification of cementomas all cases were involved n intermediate or mature inactive stage.

  • Temporomandibular disorder(TMD) is described as a cluster of disorders characterized by pain in the preauricular area and/or the muscles of mastication; limitations or deviations in mandibular range of motion; and noises in the TMJ during mandibular function. The most common symptom in TMD patients is pain that is aggravated by chewing or other jaw function. These symptoms are appeared when the stimuli loaded in TMJ are over the physiologic tolerance. The primary goal in treatment of TMD is to alleviate pain and lor mandibular dysfunction. TMD treatment can be divided into 2 categories: reversible and irreversible methods. Reversible methods include medication, thermal therapy, habit modification, physical therapy, appliance therpy and arthrocentesis and lavage and irreversible methods include arthroscopic lysis, surgery, occlusal adjustment et al. It is widely accepted that reversible methods are ther first choice of treatments. However if reversible ones are not effective, irreversible methods are considered.

  • Food impaction between the implant prostheses and adjacent teeth is the most frequently observed problem. It may be caused by the migration of the adjacent teeth. This symptom may be observed at the mesial aspect of implant prostheses especially, and related with the multiple contributing factors including teeth vitality and antagonist. Idal proximal contact with optimal strength and shape should be made for preventing the food impaction. Shape of customized abutment and prosthesis should have optimal emergence profile. Long duration from the extraction to the delivery of implant prostheses, the adjacent teeth and antagonist teeth may have possibility of occlusal interferences. Remained teeth mobility can induce the food impaction regardless of interproximal contact strength. Occlusal adjustment to remove occlusal interferences can be a method for enhancing the stability of interproximal contact.

  • Tongue tumors of pediatric patients are the most common soft tissue tumor of pediatric oral and maxillofacial tumors. There are many kind of pediatric tongue lesions such as hemangioma, lymphangioma, papilloma, and cyst. Most of these lesions are benign, but malignant tumors of tongue may be occurred. Therefore, malignancy should be ruled out. Sometimes, tongue lesions are present with dyspnea, dysphagia, dysarthria, bleeding, or cosmetic problem. We experienced a case of chronic inflammatory mass on posterior 1/3 of the tongue in 4 month old female patient. Swallowing difficulty and respiratory distress symptom occurred because of tongue mass effect. The tongue mass was confirmed as granulation tissue by microscopic examination. After excision of tongue mass, she had no problem with swallowing and breathing.

  • YMV-K strains were purified from D. oppostita Thunb. tv. Dung-Gun-Ma showing mosaic symptom on their leaves. YMV-K strains were filamentous particles of 780nm in length and induced cytoplasmic disorder such as inclusion body formation. Nucleotide and amino acid sequences of 5'-UTR, Pl and CP of YMV-K strains shared 80.8, 64.7 and 98.3% identity respectively to JYMV J1 in the mean value. Purification of YMV-K strains according to JYMV purification method(S. Fuji) was conducted to product antiserum. With antiserum against YMV-K strains, the Various diagnosis methods such as IC-RT-PCR, DIBA, RIPA and indirect-ELISA were used to detect YMV-K strains in Chinese yam plant.

  • Gastrointestinal side effects including nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, oral mucositis and colitis, and hepatotoxicity are common occurrence during chemotherapy. Often they result in unplanned admission and interruption of scheduled therapy. Additionally they have a negative influence on patient's therapeutic outcome and quality of life. The assessment of gastrointestinal side effects is dependent on clinician assignment of a grade established by the National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events. Continued interest of gastrointestinal side effects has allowed identifying patients at higher risk and providing effective treatments to relieve painful symptom. Finally, proper prevention and management of chemotherapy-induced gastrointestinal side effects will be needed to improve patient's survival and quality of life.

  • Lying on the side while falling asleep deeply after drinking or taking a sleeping pill can cause compressive neuropathy. We report a 70-year-old male patient of medial cord of left brachial plexus injury (BPI) after deep sleep. The mechanism of the injury might be compression and stretching of brachial plexus. The electrodiagnostic study was performed and the medial cord lesion of BPI was suggested. The ultrasonography image of compression site revealed the nerve swelling of medial cord of brachial plexus and median nerve at the mid-arm level. Pharmacologic treatment including oral prednisolone and exercise training were prescribed. On 6 months after initial visit, neurologic symptom and pain were improved but mild sequelae was remained.
