Electrochemical behaviors of optically active sparteine-Cu(II) dihalide complexes were investigated by polarography and cyclic voltammetry (CV). These Cu(II) complexes are rather easier to be reduced to Cu(I) states when comparison is made with other nonplaner copper complexes, We have assigned the CV peaks and polarographic waves related to the redox processes for these complexes. We could also observe the exchange reaction of Cu(II) ion in the complex with mercury metal in the cell having mercury pool. The redox mechanism of these complelxes is as follows; The 1st wave appeared at +0.47 V/+0.65 V corresponds to the reaction of $SpCuX_2+ e{\rightleftarrow}SpCuX_{2^-}$ and the 2nd one at +0.26 V/+0.21 V does the reaction of $SpCuX_{2 ^-} +e{\rightleftarrow}SpCuX_2^{2-}$. The 3rd one at -0.35 V/-0.27 V is dueto the reduction of mercury complex formed via exchange reaction. Where, X is chloride ion.
The Ga2O3 single crystal was grown through a floating zone method, and its structural and optical properties were instigated. It has a monoclinic crystal structure with a (100) crystal orientation and an optical band gap energy of 4.6 eV. It showed an average transmittance of 70% in the visible region. At room temperature, its photoluminescent spectrum showed three different peaks: the ultraviolet at 360 nm, the blue-green at 500 nm, and the red peaks at 700 nm. Especially, at liquid nitrogen temperature, the ultraviolet peak was optically active while the others were quenched.
The electron transfer reactions between cis-[Co(en)2(NO2)2]+ and rac-[Co(Y)]2-(Y=EDTA, PDTA, CyDTA) have been investigated in the presence of hydrogen ion. From the kinetic data, it has been found that electron transfer reactions between cis-[Co(en)2(NO2)2]+ and rac-[Co(Y)]2- proceed via inner-sphere pathway by catalysis of hydogen ion. The stereoselectivity in the electron transfer reactions between optically active △-cis-[Co(en)2(NO2)2]+ and rac-[Co(Y)]2- produced 6.0, 2.9, 3.0% e.e.(e.e.=enantiomeric excess) of △-[Co(EDTA)]-, △-[Co(PDTA)]- and △-[Co(CyDTA)]-, respectively. Based upon this observation, it seems that △-cis-[Co(en)2(NO2)2]+ is associated with rac-[Co(Y)]2- at first, and followed by the electron transfer reaction. Therefore, it was suggested that stereoselective electron transfer reaction between △-cis-[Co(en)2(NO2)2]+ and rac-[Co(Y)]2- proceed through both inner-sphere by the proton catalysis and outer-sphere with ionic association.
We present the analysis results of the simultaneous multifrequency observations of the blazar 4C +28.07. The observations were conducted by the Interferometric Monitoring of Gamma-ray Bright Active Galactic Nuclei (iMOGABA) program, which is a key science program of the Korean Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) Network (KVN). Observations of the iMOGABA program for 4C +28.07 were conducted from 16 January 2013 (MJD 56308) to 13 March 2020 (MJD 58921). We also used γ-ray data from the Fermi Large Array Telescope (Fermi-LAT) Light Curve Repository, covering the energy range from 100 MeV to 100 GeV. We divided the iMOGABA data and the Fermi-LAT data into five periods from 0 to 4, according to the prosody of the 22 GHz data and the presence or absence of the data. In order to investigate the characteristics of each period, the light curves were plotted and compared. However, a peak that formed a hill was observed earlier than the period of a strong γ-ray flare at 43-86 GHz in period 3 (MJD 57400-58100). Therefore, we assumed that the minimum total CLEANed flux density for each frequency was quiescent flux (Sq) in which the core of 4C +28.07 emitted the minimum, with the variable flux (Svar) obtained by subtracting Sq from the values of the total CLEANed flux density. We then compared the variability of the spectral indices (α) between adjacent frequencies through a spectral analysis. Most notably, α22-43 showed optically thick spectra in the absence of a strong γ-ray flare, and when the flare appeared, α22-43 became optically thinner. In order to find out the characteristics of the magnetic field in the variable region, the magnetic field strength in the synchrotron self-absorption (BSSA) and the equipartition magnetic field strength (Beq) were obtained. We found that BSSA is largely consistent with Beq within the uncertainty, implying that the SSA region in the source is not significantly deviated from the equipartition condition in the γ-ray quiescent periods.
Many observations have found evidence of the presence of a large number of heavily obscured Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs). However, the nature of this population is only poorly understood because heavy obscuration by dust prevents one from finding them at optical wavelengths. Mid-infrared AGN searches can overcome this obstacle by penetrating through dust and by detecting direct emission from the dust torus. Thus, we can identify most of the AGN population, including type-2 and buried AGNs. Using the AKARI mid-infrared all-sky survey, we performed an AGN search in the nearby universe. Utilizing the 2MASS photometry, we selected mid-infrared-excess sources and carried out near-infrared spectroscopic observations in the AKARI Phase 3. During these follow-up observations, we have found three galaxies that show strong near-infrared red continuum from hot dust with a temperature of about 500 K, but do not show any AGN features in other wavelengths. The most suitable explanation of near-infrared continuum is the presence of central AGNs. Therefore, we conclude that they are AGNs obscured by dust. We performed X-ray observations of the two galaxies with SUZAKU. No detections in the 0.4-10 keV suggest that the column density may be much higher than $N_H=10^{23.5}cm^{-2}$. Comparing the masses of the host galaxies with those of the SDSS AGNs, we find that the host galaxies of the dusty AGNs discovered with AKARI are less massive populations than those of optically selected AGNs.
The massive limit of black holes (BHs) is observed as present day ten billion solar masses. We search for observational signatures of BHs that become extremely massive (EMBHs, 1-10 billion solar masses). I will report on the evolution of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) through the growth of BH mass and their dust emission strength. First, we measured 26 EMBH masses of quasars at 1
The whole cells of Chromobacterium chocolatum was immobilized in the matrix of polyacrylamide and then used for the hydrolysis of dimethyl-cis-1,3-dibenzyl-2-oxoimidazolidine-4,5-dicarboxylate. This hydrolysis yielded the optically active monoester ( > 96% ee) which is useful as an synthetic intermediate of (+)-biotin. We have studied the optimum condition of hydrolysis by using immobilized cells under variable concentration of substrate, reaction time and pH levels. The activity of lipase in immobilized cell was retained for longer than 4 weeks. The best conversion yield of product was obtained when 2 g of wet cell was immobilized and then reacted with 200 mg of substrate at pH 7.
Numerous drugs are chiral because they possess one or more chiral centers. Enantiomers may differ in their pharmacokinetic, pharmacological and toxicological properties. However, the significance of stereochemistry of drugs in their therapeutic uses has received relatively little attention until recently. The US FDA issued a guideline on stereoisomeric drugs in 1992, and the European agency describes tests for new drug substances which are optically active in an ICH(International Conference of Harmonization) guideline. According to the guidance, enantiomers may differ in their pharmacokinetic, pharmacological and toxicological properties. Therefore, in this paper, we examined the recently published Canadian guidance, stereochemical issues in chiral drug development, which will be references to make a guidance on stereochemical issues in chiral drug development in Korea.
Absolute configuration of optically active [Co(EDDS)]- (EDDS = ethylenediaminedisuccinate) complex was determined as Λ-form by octant rule and spectroscopic data, and the stereoselective ionic association of Λ-[Co(EDDS)]- and racemic-$[Co(en)^3]_{3+}$ occurs preferrentially between Λ$-[Co(EDDS)]-$ and Δ$-[Co(en)3]3+$. The stereoselective electron-transfer reaction between Λ-[Co(EDDS)]- and racemic-$[Co(en)_3]^{2+}$ has produced 14% e.e (e.e = enantiomeric excess) of Δ$[Co(en)_3]^{3+}$ through the stereoselective ion pairing.
Enzyme-metal combo catalysis is described as a useful methodology for the synthesis of optically active compounds. The key point of the method is the use of enzyme and metal in combination as the catalysts for the complete transformation of racemic substrates to single enantiomeric products through dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR). In this approach, enzyme acts as an enantioselective resolving catalyst and metal does as a racemizing catalyst for the efficient DKR. Three kinds of enzyme-metal combinations - lipase-ruthenium, subtilisin-ruthenium, and lipase-palladium –have been developed as the catalysts for the DKRs of racemic alcohols, esters, and amines. The scope of the combination catalysts can be extended to the asymmetric transformations of ketones, enol acetates, and ketoximes via the DKRs. In most cases studied, enzyme-metal combo catalysis provided enantiomerically-enriched products in high yields.
