  • This paper considers the problem of routing connections in a optical multi tree networks using WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing), where each connection between a pair of nodes in the network is assigned a path through the network and a wavelength on that path, so that connections whose paths share a common link in the network are assigned different wavelengths. The problem of optimal coloring of the paths on the optical multi-networks is NP-hard[1], but if that is the coloring of all paths, then there exists efficient polynomial time algorithm. In this paper, using a "divide & conquer" method, we give efficient algorithm to assign wavelengths to all the paths of a tree network based on the theory of [7]. Here, our time complexity is 0(n4log n).

  • Although color characteristics of IPS mode are much better than TN or VA mode, there still remains a room for improvement of the color characteristics of IPS mode compared with the conventional CRT. It has been generally as sumed that inherent color variation of IPS mode is entirely owing to dependence of the effective retardation on wavelength and role of optical axis of IPS mode has been little considered. In this study, we investigated the effects of driving voltages on the effective retardation and the effective optical axis by a computer simulation. The result shows that rotation of effective optical axis is dependent on wavelength and tends to be smaller for larger wavelength.

  • We have carried out a basic experiment in order to develope a super high-resolution optical microscope which transcend the limitation of diffraction and the wavelength of lightwave. The image of this scope is composed by measuring the evanescent wave which is localized on the surface of the testing materials. A detecting probe was fabricated with a single mode optical fiber to be sharpened by the chemical etching, and drived by PZT. The standing wave of $0.33\mu\textrm{m}$ wavelength evanescent wave which was generated from the $0.78\mu\textrm{m}$-wavelength semiconductor laser was detected by the $0.5\mu\textrm{m}$-thickness optical fiber probe.

  • This paper provides an overview of optical transport technology for 5G mobile fronthaul. The configuration of fronthaul network is classified with dedicated fiber, passive WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing), active WDM, and semi-active WDM, which has its own advantages and drawbacks. Various WDM technology is applied for fronthaul transport, depending on the wavelength bands, required number of wavelength channels, configuration of fronthaul network, etc. In order to meet the increasing transport capacity, a 50/100 Gbps optical transceiver will be used in place of the present 10/25 Gbps technology. Trends will be continued to enhance the flexibility and reliability of the fronthaul optical network supporting highly advanced 5G mobile services.

  • Thin film filter type 4-channel wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) device was designed and fabricated for the application in optical subscriber loop system. It has multi-mode fiber pigtails and four wavelength division consisting of 0.81, 0.89, 1.2 and 1.3 um. The evaluated performances are 1-2d B of insertion loss(connector loss excluded)and 30-35d B of crosstalk attenuation for all channels. The performance of the fabricated device was tested in the wideband optical transmission experiment, where the SNR degradation due to the crosstalk of the device was found to be within a measurement error.

  • A 4-wavelength optical transceiver system is designed and implemented by using 4 OADMs (optical add-drop multiplexers), WDMs, and optical transceivers. In this new system, the wavelengths of 1510 nm and 1530 nm are used for upload and download signals, respectively, as well as the wavelengths of 1550 nm and 1310 nm which have been utilized in a 2-wavelength optical transceiver systems. The 4-wavelength optical module shows very encouraging pass characteristics of about - 5 dB and isolation characteristics of less than -40 dB, which is configured with two OADMs, 4 couplers, and WDM couplers by fusion splicing. Noise figure (NF) of the one-stage balanced amplifier designed and fabricated for receiver module is 0.38 dB and the amplifying gain is 14.2 dB. S$_{11}$, S$_{22}$ and input, output VSWR are -28.81 dB, -32.08 dB, 1.05 : 1, 1.08 : 1, respectively.y.

  • In optoelectronic devices including displays and solar cells that convert electricity into light or light into electricity, it is important to control optical behavior of light to improve device efficiency. Specifically, the control of internal emitting light in the OLEDs can induce more light to go out, improving luminous efficiency. In addition, the control of optical behavior of incident light in solar cells can increase optical path in the light absorption layer, increasing power-conversion efficiency. In this study, we generated wrinkles as a physical structure to control optical behavior of light and independently controlled their wavelength and height by changing stress relaxation time. To explore the effect of wavelength and height on optical behavior, we conducted UV/Vis spectroscopy analysis of wrinkles with various heights at a constant wavelength or various wavelengths at a comparable height, figuring out a wrinkle with high aspect ratio has more dispersive light and less straight light. It indicates that high aspect ratio is required to change the optical behavior and increase the optical path.

  • The fiber optical temperature sensing device was developed by using a Fiber Bragg Grading (FBG) sensor and a linear transmittance optical filter. The temperature change causes change in the FBG sensor reflectance wavelength and the reflectance wavelength from FBG sensor is transmitted to a linear transmittance filter so that the optical signal value is determined by the wavelength. The temperature can be measured by the optical signal value by passing FBG reflectance wavelength to the linear transmittance filter. Using the developed system, temperature ranges from $10^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$ were measured and the measured data were almost linear.

  • Spectral irradiance measurement system was developed to measure the spectral irradiance of optical sources in the wavelength range from 250[nm] to 1600[nm]. Our system is composed of source system, fore-optics, monochromator system, optical detector system, and automatic control system. Optical detector system with PMT, Si, InGaAs, and IR enhanced InGaAs detectors is used to measure the wide spectrum of optical sources in ultraviolet visible, and infrared wavelength regions. Spectral irradiance of the 1[kW] quartz-halogen tungsten lamp was measured and compared in the wavelength range from 250[nm] to 1600[nm]. The differences between our results and those reported by NIST are below 3[%], 3.5[%], and 5[%] in the wavelength range of 450∼700[nm], 700∼1600[nm], 250∼400[nm], respectively.

  • Dynamic characteristics of TbFeCo magneto-optical recording media at 680nm wavelength region were studied by means of computer simulation of disc structure and optimization of process variables during sputter deposition. With the slightly reduced Kerr rotation angle due to the reduced wavelength of optical laser source, the improved recording density in TbFeCo magneto optical media showing the CNR greater than 50dB could be achieved by only adjusting the thickness of dielectric and the recording layers when the wavelength of light source is changed from 780nm to 680nm. In addition, the recording power margin of 5mW and the 2mW minimum recording power was realized, It was shown from the present study that the increase in laser power density demonstrated feasibility of low cost and low power laser diode with the reduced optimum recording power.
