Development of Three Phase Optimal Power Flow for Distributed Generation Systems (분산전원계통을 위한 3상 최적조류계산 프로그램 개발)

  • This paper presents a method of finding the optimal operating point minimizing a given objective function with 3 phase power flow equations and operational constraints, called 3 phase optimal power flow (3POPF). 3 phase optimal power flow can provide operation and control strategies for the distribution systems with distributed generation assets, which might be frequently in unbalanced conditions assuming that high penetration rate of renewable energy sources in the systems. As the solution technique for 3POPF, this paper adopts a simulation-based method of particle swarm optimization (PSO). In the PSO based 3POPF, a utility function needs to be defined for evaluation of the degree in operational improvement of each particle's current position. To evaluate the utility function, in this paper, NR-based 3 phase power flow algorithm was developed which can deal with looped distributed generation systems. In this paper, illustrative examples with a 5-bus and a modified IEEE 37-bus test systems are given.

Door Effort Analysis for Door Checker of Integrated Type with Torsion Bar Spring (토션 바 스프링을 적용한 일체형 도어체커 개폐력 해석)

  • Door effort was calculated for a new door checker with torsion bar spring and integrated checker case by FE analysis. A hybrid checker arm which has peaks and valleys only on the upper surface was adopted to reduce noise in operation and make operation with more distinctive steps. The checker arm was modeled using shell elements to estimate both the longitudinal and the lateral resistance force by checker arm. By combining the checker arm resistance force obtained from analysis and the door self-closing force by the theoretical calculation, door effort was predicted to show the good correlation with test results. In addition the unrolling effect of roller model was investigated and a new roller type for more smooth rolling was studied.

  • In this study, the experiment result and numerical analysis on temperature distribution of a secondary battery module for high temperature operation type were compared. Because experimental battery has been in danger of explosions, experiment on temperature distribution was carried out using dummy batteries. Study on NAS battery module, which is secondary battery of high temperature operation type, is as follows ; Test result showed that battery's temperature is in steady state uniformly after 8 hours in each section. It is similar to experimental result for temperature distribution from the result of numerical analysis, and it takes about 8.5 hours to the $300^{\circ}C$.

  • The piping verification tests were performed in order to verify the structural integrity during initial operation of the reactor coolant systems and the primary heat transportation systems of nuclear power plants by KEPRI in Korea. The tests were conducted at full operating temperature and pressure. The objective is to evaluate the possibility of excessive load generating on piping, piping supports, and reactor structures etc. in the steady normal operation and expected pump transient conditions.   • This study was conducted to develop pig-housings based on the forecasting models of swine production, the weather conditions, and so on in Korea. The Korean pig-housings were developed according to the following basis : 1. They should be suitable to domestic weather conditions. 2. They should be designed based on the forecasting models of swine production of farrow to finish operation among the forecasting models of swine production in Korea. 3. Proper environments should be offered to pigs according to the growth. 4. The environmental control, the treatment of swine wastewater, and so on should be interrelated. 5. Manual energy should be saved by effective arrangements of pig-housings. In the future, performance test of the Korean pig-housings and development of facility automation systems which are suitable to these should be accomplished.

Experimental and analytical behavior of a prestressed U-shaped girder bridge

  • This paper presents an experimental and analytical investigation on the behavior of a U-shaped girder subjected to operation, cracking and ultimate loads. A full-scale destructive test was conducted on a U-shaped girder to study the cracking process, load-carrying capacity, failure mechanism and load-deformation relationships. Accordingly, the tested U-shaped girder was modeled using ANSYS and a non-linear element analysis was conducted. The investigation shows that the U-shaped girder meets the specified requirements of vertical stiffness, cracking and ultimate load capacity. Unfavorable torsional effect is tolerable during operation. However, compared with box girders, the U-shaped girder has a more transverse mechanical effect and longitudinal cracks are apt to occur in the bottom slab.

  • Recently, electronic engine control system is used in many automotives for high efficiency and low pollution. In order to perform these requirements, fuel injection control, spark timing control, knock control, exhaust gas recirculation control and idle speed control should be implemented. In this paper, idle speed control system using microcontroller is developed, which is compact in hardware, but powerful in software performing efficient control and various compensations for engine condition and environments. If idle speed is low engine operation is not smooth, reversely if high, fuel consumption is increased. Therefore idle speed must be maintained as low as possible within the scope that ensures smooth operation of engine. Also, an engine signal simulator, which generates various signals from engine, is realized for test facility.

Temperature Distribution of a Low Temperature Heat Pipe with Multiple Heaters for Electronic Cooling

  • A numerical study has been performed to predict the characteristics on the transient operation of the heat pipe with multiple heaters for electronic cooling. The model of the heat pipe was composed of the evaporator section with four heaters, insulated transport section, and the condensor section with a conductor which is cooled with uniform heat flux condition to surrounding. The governing equations and the boundary conditions were solved by the generalized PHOENICS computational code employing the finite volume method. Two test cases are investigated in present study; Case 1 indicates that the 1st and 2nd heaters among four heating sources are heated off, while the 3rd and 4th heaters are heated on. Case 2 is the inverse situation switched from heating location of Case 1. The results show that the transient time to reach the steady state is shorter for Case 1 than for Case 2. Especially, the temperature difference of the heater during switching operation is relatively small compared to the maximum allowable operating temperature difference in electronic system. Hence, it is predicted that the heat pipe in present study operates with thermally good reliability even for switching the heaters.

  • This study finds out and suggests success factors for the application of RIMS project through the case study of Seoul Metro and literature survey. The successful application of RIMS needs expert knowledge and concept of BOM, standardization of maintenance planning, check lists of heavy maintenance inspection, organization structure of rolling stock maintenance offices, material management system of warehousing and the process of parts repairing between offices, connection of material ordering system, problem solving of circular spare parts administration among inspection, maintenance, and material organizational units, systemic serial number management of parts with RFID, daily closing diary connected with work process chart, and sufficient period of RIMS's test run. RIMS contributes to real time management of rolling stock maintenance, transparency of management, reliability of train operation, customer satisfaction, and management innovation.

  • Power Car PC1 and PC2 of Korean high speed train have a auxiliary block which consists of two PWM converter respectively. If a auxiliary block happens a critical failure, the other supplies power to full load of train. In this case, a stability of auxiliary block reduces by a increasing load. For increasing a stability of auxiliary block and train system, a auxiliary block consists of two group four PWM converter which operates simultaneously. If a group of a auxiliary block happens a critical failure, the other supplies power to load of a auxiliary block. This paper describes a method for simultaneous movement of auxiliary block which consists of two group four PWM converter.
