  • Globally, wind power development is experiencing dramatic growth and wind power penetration levels are increasing. Wind generation is highly variable in time and space and it doesn't guarantee the system reliability and secure system operation. As wind power capacity becomes a significant portion of total generation capacity, the reliability assessment for wind power are therefore needed. At present, this operational reliability assessment is focusing on a generation adequacy perspective and does not consider transmission reliability issues. In this paper, we propose the critical transmission operating constraint prediction(CTOCP) system with high wind power penetration to enhance transmission reliability.

  • Purpose of the electric power system planning and operation is to supply the electric energy to customers continuously and economically. With the mutual exclusive laws of nature between reliability and economic, finding the meeting point is very important but not easy. Commonly the probabilistic reliability indices of the electric power systems are represented with negatively. And the effectiveness of FACTS on the probabilistic reliability could not be reflected with common methods. In this paper, a method to evaluate the probabilistic arrival power at each load point is presented. With this new proposed method, probabilistic reserve margin at load points can be calculated and which can be used with positive reliability index also. Using the P-V analysis, the voltage stability is considered in reliability evaluation. It is expected that the proposed method will be useful expecially in reliability evaluation of electric power system which has voltage restriction.

  • This paper presents a practical approach to evaluate the reliability indices of electric distribution systems. The use of reliability evaluation is placed with framework of distribution system planning and operation. In this paper, the reliability model is based on an analytical method, connecting component failure to load point outage in each section. Five cases are reported in the paper to study the effect of varying failure rates and repair times on real distribution systems. Simulations are preformed by the developed reliability evaluation program.

  • An environmental test has been performed in order to improve the lifetime and reliability of the electrical units on aircraft. However, faults occurring in the field of aircraft have been difficult to predict and prevent, and new concepts for reliability testing are desired. Therefore, a composite reliability test sequence was proposed in the conventional studies. This study introduces test sequence guidelines based on relevant principles and considerations for electronic testing according to International Standard IEC-60068-1 and the United States Military Standard MIL-STD-810G. In addition, we analyze possible causes of failure using two-step QFD based on aircraft operation scenarios. Finally, the proposed test sequence can reproduce various and realistic failure modes for electrical units on aircraft.

  • In this paper, as the step to assess and enhance the reliability of Korean Tilting Train eXpress (T.T.X), Door system is selected and reliability analysis is carried out. The door system is classified into subsystems and functional block diagrams and reliability block diagrams are drawn.Expessions for evaluating the reliability are derived and Mean Kilometer between Service Failure is calculated using the trial track test results. The calculation result show reliability growth of proposed system. This paper developed RAMS to make a door system of T.T.X. (Tilting Train eXpress) with maximum operation speed of 180 km/h.

  • This paper presents a new approach to evaluate optimal basic reliability indices of electric distribution systems using genetic algorithm. The use of optimal reliability evaluation is an important aspect of distribution system planning and operation to determine adequacy reliability level of each area. In this paper, the reliability model is based on the analytical method, connecting component failure to load point outage in each section. The proposed method applies genetic algorithm to calculate the optimal values of basic reliability indices, ie. failure rate and repair time, for a load point in the power distribution system, subject to minimizing interruption cost. Test results for the model system are reported in the paper compared with a direct optimization method(gradient projection).

  • Software testing during development and operation should exercise to obtain the desired software quality and leave failure data set. So far, many software reliability models are classified and can be used to measure a software reliability only based on its failure history But, in practice, developers or testers of software systems must decide which existing software reliability model can be fitted. In this paper, we will show that an appropriate reliability model can be selected by considering relations between characteristics of each testing environment and models' assumptions. Several methods of software testing are presented and discussed. Also, unit test, integrated test, function test and system test that are sequentially exercised during development will be introduced.

  • This paper presents a method for assessing reliability indices of transmission system. Because successful operation of electric power under the deregulated electricity market depends on transmission system reliability management, quantity evaluation of transmission system reliability is very important. The key point idea is based on that the reliability level of transmission system is equal to reliability level difference of between composite power system(HLII) and generation system(HLI). It is the reason that composite power system includes uncertainties and capacity limit of transmission lines. The practicality and effectiveness of this methodology are illustrated by the case study using the KEPCO size system.

수율과 신뢰도의 상충효과를 고려한 번인 (Burn-in Considering a Trade-Off of Yield and Reliability)

  • Burn-in is an engineering method for screening out products containing reliability defects which would cause early failures in field operation. Previously, various burn-in models have been proposed mainly focused on the trade-off of shop repair cost and warranty cost ignoring manufacturing yield. From the view point of a manufacturer, however, burn-in decreases warranty cost at the expense of yield reduction. In this paper, we provide a general model quantifying a trade-off between product yield and reliability, in which any defect distribution from previous yield models can be used. A profit function is expressed in burn-in environments for determining an optimal burn-in time. Finally, the method is illustrated with gate oxide failures which is an important reliability concerns for VLSI CMOS circuits.

Human Reliability Analysis of Soft Control Operations in Nuclear Power Plants: Issues and Perspectives

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to describe several issues which should be considered in the human reliability analysis of soft control operations in nuclear power plants. Background: The operational environment of advanced main control rooms is totally different from that of conventional control rooms. The soft control is one of the major distinguishable features of the advanced main control rooms. The soft control operations should be analyzed to estimate the effects on human reliability. Method: The literatures, about task analysis, simulation data analysis, and a human reliability analysis method for the soft control, were reviewed. From the review, important issues for the human reliability analysis of the soft control were raised. Results: The results of task and simulation data analysis showed that the soft control characteristics could have large effect on human reliability and they should be considered in the human reliability analysis of the soft control operations. Conclusion: The soft control may affect human error and performance of operators. The issues described in this paper should be considered in the human reliability method for the advanced main control rooms. Application: The results of the soft control operation analysis might help to design more efficient interface and education/training program for preventing human errors. The described issues might help to develop a human reliability analysis method for soft control operations.
