Objectives This study was conducted to suggest a standard operating procedure (SOP) in order to improve the reliability of tongue-image analysis system. Methods An affecting-factors list was made, which may affect the diagnostic parameters of the tongue-image analysis system. They were sub-classified into two groups: controllable and uncontrollable. Only the controllable factors, which could affect the results and easily set-up, were included into the SOP draft. Affecting factors control experiment was performed to investigate the effects of controllable factors, whose influence on diagnostic parameters of the tongue-image analysis system is ambiguous: rehearsal for tongue extrusion; alignment of camera axis; and presentation of a guideline. Three subjects volunteered for this experiment. Each of three variables was implemented twice in a random order by two operators on the subjects. Finally, 96 tongue images obtained in the aggregate. The diagnostic parameter set as a primary outcome in this experiment was the percentage of tongue coating. Results All of the control variables were not significant in both operators; however, the presentation of a guideline was relatively more affect than two other variables. Interaction effects among the variables were also insignificant. Therefore, the presentation of a guideline was included in the final SOP and the other variables were not included. Conclusions We suggested the SOP which could be used for both experimenter and subject. Moreover, Each of the SOPs applied to various types of tongue-image analysis system should be developed in order to improve the reliability.
A mathematical model for long-rage water supply planning was formulated as a dynamic plant location problem with network arc capacity expansion, and illustative example was presented. The proposed solution procedure identifies economical construction timings of surface water supply facilities and water conveyence systems and the best water supply operating patterns as well. In this study, we present a heuristic solution procedure using Simulated annealing Method in conjunction with Bertsekas & Tseng's RELAXT-II for the 0-1 integer network problem.
This study surveys four characteristics (overall density, local density, grouping, complexity) to effect user's performance on the on-line terminal displays of commercial banks, and makes the new screen by the screen design procedure. The new screen includes to increase the number of groups and to arrange the items on the screen. And then, this study carrys out experiments to compare performance(operating time and error number ) by each screen. The result is described that the operating time decreases about 20% at the new OUT-screen than the existing OUT-screens; about 25% at the new IN-screen.
This paper describes an approach for synthesizing a modularized gain scheduled PD type fuzzy logic controller(FLC) of nonlinear magnetic bearing system where the gains of FLC are on-line adapted according to the operating point. Specifically the systematic procedure via root locus technique is carried out for the selection of the gains of FLC. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed gain scheduled fuzzy logic controller yields not only maximization of stability boundary but also better control performance than a single operating point (without gain scheduling)fuzzy controller.
In the past, the report of shoulder instability undergoing open shoulder stabilization had satisfactory outcomes of greater than 90%. However, the functional loss of open procedure is severe in abduction and external rotation especially. Current arthroscopic techniques for shoulder instability result in success rate equal to open surgical procedure when the labrum is properly fixed to the glenoid rim using suture anchors, the capsule is tightened, and associated bony and soft tissue pathology is addressed. The arthroscopic surgery facilitates the view within shoulder joint for more accurate diagnosis, reduces operating time, minimises postoperative pain, reduces operative morbidity, improves shoulder function, and provides the possibility to perform other procedure simultaneously. However, to accomplish a successful arthroscopic stabilization procedure and to prevent complications, numerous advanced arthroscopic skill must be mastered. Although the arthroscope provides means to visualize new lesions, the pathomechanism and biomechanical explanation is not clear yet. Further studies are necessary to develop for shoulder reconstruction.
In this paper, a procedure using a genetic algorithm (GA) and a heuristic local search (HLS) is proposed for solving facility rearrangement problem (FRP). FRP is a decision problem for stopping/running of facilities and integration of stopped facilities to running facilities to maximize the production capacity of running facilities under the cost constraint. FRP is formulated as an integer programming model for maximizing the total production capacity under the constraint of the total facility operating cost. In the cases of 90 percent of cost constraint and more than 20 facilities, the previous solving method was not effective. To find effective alternatives, this solving procedure using a GA and a HLS is developed. Stopping/running of facilities are searched by GA. The shifting the production operation of stopped facilities into running facilities is searched by HLS, and this local search is executed for one individual in this GA procedure. The effectiveness of the proposed procedure using a GA and HLS is demonstrated by numerical experiment.
The present study describes a practical estimation procedure about the pantograph under several severe aerodynamic load conditions. As the operating speed of the Korean Train Express(KTX) reaches 350km/h, structural safety at various conditions should be examined at the design stage. In the present study, a compact and reliable procedure is developed to get aerodynamic loads on each part of the pantograph regarding the typhoon condition, the train/tunnel interaction, the train/train interaction and the side wind condition. In the estimation procedure, 3-dimensional steady and unsteady CFD simulation around the high speed train facilitates assigning the external local flow condition around the pantograph. The procedure is verified using the results of the low speed wind tunnel test at JARI and applied to 7 flow conditions and 4 operation configurations.
It is a difficult task for decision makers(DMs) to choose an appropriate release plan which balances the conflicts between water storage and hydro-electric energy generation in a multi-reservoir operation problem. In this study, we proposed a DEA-based ranking procedure by which the DM can rank the potential alternatives and select the best solution among the Pareto-optimal solutions. The proposed procedure can resolve the problem of mix inefficiency that may cause errors in measuring the efficiency of alternatives. We applied the proposed procedure to the multi-reservoir operation problem for the Geum-River basin and could choose the best efficient solution from the Pareto-set which were generated by the Coordinated Multi-Reservoir Operating Model.
A simple and efficient Lambda logic (${\lambda}-logic$) based algorithm is proposed for the solution of the generator constrained economic dispatch problem when the generating units having prohibited zones. The proposed method solves the economic dispatch (ED) problem that takes into account ramprate limits, transmission losses and prohibited operating zones in the power system operation. The proposed method uses a simple heuristic rule based on average power of prohibited operating zones which produces the feasibility of solution for the restricted operating units. The effectiveness of the algorithm is tested on five different test systems and the performance compared with other relevant methods reported in the literature. In all the cases, the proposed algorithm performs better than the previous existing algorithms with a less computational burden.
