  • The Westinghouse OT$\Delta$T DNB protection logic heavily restricts the operation region by applying the same logic for a full range of operating pressure in order to maintain its simplicity. In this work, a fuzzy neural network method is used to estimate the DNB protection limit using the measured average temperature and pressure of a reactor core. Fuzzy system parameters are optimized by a hybrid learning method. This algorithm uses a gradient descent algorithm to optimize the antecedent parameters and a least-squares algorithm to solve the consequent parameters. The proposed method is applied to Yonggwang 3&4 nuclear power plants and the proposed method has 5.99 percent larger thermal margin than the conventional OT$\Delta$T trip logic. This simple algorithm provides a good information for the nuclear power plant operation and diagnosis by estimating the DNB protection limit each time step.

  • In this paper, an intermediate representation HSFG(Hanyang Sequential Flow GRaph) and a new scheduling algorithm for the control-dominated ASIC design is presented. The HSFG represents control flow, data dependency and such constraints as resource constraints and timing constraints. The scheduling algorithm minimizes the total operating time by reducing the number of the constraints as maximal as possible, searching a few paths among all the paths produced by conditional branches. The constraints are substitute by subgraphs, and then the number of subgraphs (that is the number kof the constraints) is minimized by using the inclusion and overlap relation among subgraphs. The proposed algorithm has achieved the better results than the previous ones on the benchmark data.

  • Polar fomat algorithm (PFA) was derived from medical imaging theory, known as back projection, to process synthetic aperture radar(SAR) data. The difference between the operating condition of SAR and back projection assumption makes two distortions. First, the focusing performance of PFA is degraded in proportion to distances from the scene center. Second, the geometric accuracy in SAR images is distorted. Several methods were introduced to mitigate the distortions, but some disadvantages, such as the geometric discontinuity, are arisen when sub-images are combined. This paper proposes the novel method to compensate the geometric distortion with chirp Z-transform (CZT). This method corrects precisely the geometric errors without any problems, because a whole image can be processed all at once.

  • In this study, we developed a genetic algorithm to find a near optimal solution of concurrent spare parts selection for the operational time period with limited information of weapon systems purchased from overseas. Through the analysis of time profiles related with system operations, we first define the optimization goal which maintains the expected system operating rate under the budget restrictions, and the number of failures and the lead time for each spare part are used to calculate the estimated total down time of the system. The genetic algorithm for CSP selection shows that the objective function minimizes the estimated total down time of systems with satisfying the restrictions. The method provided by this study can be applied to the generalized model of CSP selection for the systems purchased from overseas without provision of their full structure and adequate information.

  • This paper describes a busbar current differential relay in conjunction with a current transformer(CT) compensating algorithm irrespective of the level of the remanent flux. The compensating algorithm detects the start of first saturation if the third-difference function of the current exceeds the threshold; it estimates the core flux at the first saturation start by inserting the negative value of the third-difference function of the current into the magnetization curve; thereafter, it calculates the core flux during the fault and compensates the distorted current using the magnetization curve. The algorithm estimates the correct secondary current irrespective of the level of the remanent flux and needs no saturation point of the magnetization curve. The proposed relay can improve not only security of the relay on an external fault with CT saturation but sensitivity of the relay on an internal fault; the relay can improve the operating speed on n internal fault with CT saturation. This paper concludes by implementing the relay into a digital signal processor based prototype relay.

  • The problem to be studied here is the minimization of the total travel distance and the number of vehicles used for delivering goods to customers. Vehicle routes must also satisfy a variety of constraints such as fixed vehicle capacity, allowed operating time. Genetic algorithm to solve the VRPTW with heterogeneous fleet is presented. The chromosome of the proposed GA in this study has the 3-dimension. We propose GA that has the cubic-chromosome for VRPTW with heterogeneous fleet. The newly suggested ‘Cubic-GA (or 3-D GA)’ in this paper means the 2-D GA with GLS(Genetic Local Search) algorithms and is quite flexible. To evaluate the performance of the algorithm, we apply it to the Solomon's VRPTW instances. It produces a set of good routes and the reasonable number of vehicles.

  • The recognition system of a car plate is largely classified as the extraction and recognition of number plate. In this paper, we extract the number plate domain by using a thresholding method as a preprocess step. The computation of the density in a given mask provides a clue of a candidate domain whose density ratio corresponds to the properties of the number plate obtained in the best condition. The contour of the number plate for the recognition of the texts of number plate is extracted by operating Kohonen Algorithm in a localized region. The algorithm reduces noises around the contour. The recognition system with the density computation and Kohonen Algorithm shows a high performance in the real system in connection with a car number plate.

  • In this paper, an optimal solution to the harmonic reduction problem in a cascaded multilevel inverter with non-equal DC sources using a genetic algorithm (GA) is presented. Switching angles are generated for different values of modulation index by the proposed algorithm, considering minimum voltage total harmonic distortion (THD) whereas selected harmonics are controlled within the allowable limits at all desired modulation indices including the point of discontinuity. Results are stored as a look-up table to be used to control the inverter for a certain operating point. The computed angles are used in a simulated circuit in Matlab\Simulink to validate the results.

  • Directional elements are fundamental to protection scheme security and selectivity, performing such critical tasks as supervising distance elements and controlling overcurrent elements. But, conventional operating principles for directional detection based on negative or zero sequence quantify do not satisfy the requirements for improved sensitivity and fast operation under any fault conditions. In this paper, new algorithm for directional elements is proposed. The proposed algorithm use the positive-sequence superimposed voltages and currents in order to be used in all fault conditions. Also, because this algorithm uses a voltage compensation method. it can be well operated under strong source conditions.

  • Input current ripple and harmonic components of the power device are main causes of electromagnetic interference (EMI). Although the discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) operation can reduce harmonic components of the power device by reducing reverse recovery current of diode and turn-off voltage spikes of the switch, input current ripple increases due to high peak to peak inductor current. Therefore, in this paper, frequency control algorithm is proposed to reduce the input current ripple of DCM operated interleaved boost converter. In the proposed algorithm, duty ratio is fixed either 0.33 or 0.67 to minimize the input current ripple and the switching frequency is controlled according to operating conditions. 600 W 3-phase interleaved boost converter prototype system is built to verify proposed algorithm.
