  • The self-centering prestressed concrete (SCPC) bridge pier with external dissipators is a novel structure, aiming at reducing residual deformation and facilitating the post-earthquake repair. This paper presents the configuration and mechanical behaviors of the pier. A theoretical model for the lateral force-displacement relationship under cyclic loading is developed. The proposed model comprises an iterative procedure which describes the deformation of dissipators under different conditions. Equations of pier stiffness after gap opening, as well as the equivalent viscous damping ratio, etc., are derived based on the proposed model. Existing cyclic load test results were used to validate the proposed model, and good agreement is observed between the analytical and test results.

  • Numerical method by Abdi et al. for obtaining a stress singularity near a crack perpendicular to the interface between two elastic materials is reviewed. More efficient and simple method to obtain crack singularity by shifting a mid-side node of 8-node isoparametric element is presented. It is observed that the present analysis provides increased accuracy for the expression of the opening displacement and the determination of the optimal position of the mid-side node for a wide range of material properties.

  • The fatigue tests were performed on the high strength concrete beams with single edged notch which was reinforced steel fiber. The steel fibers were used 1.0 percent by volume fraction. These were tested consists of constant amplitude tests for different levels of loading. The test program included endurance limit with repect to flexural fatigue and relation of load-CMOD(crack mouth opening displacement). The results of test, it is found from S-N curve that the fatigue strength for a life of 2 million cycles of load was approximately 70percent with respect to the static ultimate strength .

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of vegetation on the cutting slope applied by vegetation system in the whole land. The engineering characteristics of slopes were investigated using the face mapping and physical tests. From the statistical methods, a relationship between a geologic stratum and degree of covering was independent. Therefore, the afforestation of slope was affected more by condition of vegetation as direction and opening of joints, and a topsoil state than by conventional classification of layer. It was concluded that the adjustable vegetation on the slope considering condition of geometric shape of slope, joint data and spontaneous type could make useful early afforestation.

  • In this study, the 4-way spool valve characteristics are clearly defined and proposed new type of spool valve. This paper presents governing equations of the flow through clearances between sleeve and spool as a model of orifice flow for null characteristic analysis, and programmed analysis software of it. This software is possible to basically analysis that not only which case of open center, closed center or critical center but +,- displacement of spool, lab position, boundary region and spool opening of the valve, and to estimate the pressure variation in the spool and external leak flow variation. We are convinced that the scale of load pressure difference is changed as lab condition of spool valve, and this scale is changed with boundary point on the annular clearance. It is vary useful to designer and user of spool valve with this design data and analysis software.

  • We got the following characteristics from fatigue crack growth test carried out in the environment of room temperature and low temperature at $25^{circ}C$, $-60^{circ}C$, $-80^{circ}C$, and $-100^{circ}C$ in the range of stress ratio of 0.3 by means of opening mode displacement. And there is a difference between shot peened specimen and unpeened specimen. The purpose of this study is to predict the behavior of fatigue crack propagation as one of fracture mechanics on the compressive residual stress. Fatigue crack growth rate of shot peened metal was lower than that of unpeened metal. The compressive residual stress made an impact on tension and compression of the plasticity deformation in fatigue crack plasticity zone. That is. the constrained force about plasticity deformation was strengthened by resultant stress, which resulted from plasticity deformation and compressive residual stress in the process of fatigue crack propagation.

  • In the case of the trauma on the maxillofacial region occurred, we think that one of the most important thing is recovery of the function as well as reconstruction of the anatomical form. Especially, it has been that the structure of the surrounded temporomandibular joint has a great possibility to cause mouth opening limitation when a bit of displacement is caused. Therefore, in the case of the trauma on mid-face we think that we treat it after complete evaluate condition of soft and hard tissue surrounding the articular disc as well as fracture site. We report results of our study, since we obtained good results from our study concerning the refixation of the zygomatic arch, high condylectomy, coronoidectomy and myotomy for the patient being suffered from the arthrosis of the temporomandibular joint caused by insufficient fracture treatment of zygomatic arch and coronoid process.

  • A new perfluorobutyl substituted cyclic type disodium alkanesulfonate is designed, synthesized and characterized as alternative substance to perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS, 1), a well-known surfactant. Cylic type sulfonate was accomplished from commercially available 2,2,3,3,4,4,5,5-octafluoro-1,6-hexanediol in four steps. Bio-degradable perfluorobutyl moiety was introduced from fluorous diol, which is symmetrically substituted amphiphile via installation of an intermediate trifluoromethanesulfonyl ester and easily manipulated by double displacement of triflate using potassium malonate and further reduction followed by nucleophilic ring opening are key reactions to get target disodium alkanesulfonate. The efficiency and simplicity in the synthesis of this material offer a new strategy to design PFOS alternatives.

  • In this study, it is investigated for the effects of stress ratio and grain size on fatigue crack growth behavior and crack closure, in ferrite-martensite dual phase steels. The results obtained are as follows ; .DELTA. $K_{th}$ is independent of the ferrite grain size, but decreases with increasing stress ratio. The relation between .DELTA. $K_{th}$ and stress ratio R is as follows : .DELTA. $K_{th}$ =15.1(1-0.95R). But (.DELTA. $K_{eff}$)$_{th}$ in terms of crack closure is approximately 2.5 MPa.root.m. Also, variation of the degree of crack deflection to crack tip opening displacement at the minimum load is considered as a parameter of crack closure.e.e.

  • The compressive residual stress, which is induced by shot peening process, seems to be an important factor of increasing the fatigue strength. And then it was showed that residual stress was disappearenced at the high temperature. The fatigue characteristic study of a SUP9 spring steel processed shot peening is performed by considering the high temperature service conditions in the range of room temperature through $180^{\circ}C$ in the range of stress ratio of 0.3 by means of opening mode displacement. The fatigue resistance characteristics and fracture strength at high temperature is considerable lower than that of room temperature in the early stage and stable of fatigue crack growth region.
