This study investigates the problem of crack detection in post-buckled beam-type structures. The beam under the axial compressive force has a crack, assumed to be open and through the width. The crack, which is modeled by a massless rotational spring, divides the beam into two segments. The crack detection is considered as an optimization problem, and the weighted sum of the squared errors between the measured and computed natural frequencies is minimized by the bees algorithm. To find the natural frequencies, the governing nonlinear equations of motion for the post-buckled state are first derived. The solution of the nonlinear differential equations of the two segments consists of static and dynamic parts. The differential quadrature method along with an arc length strategy is used to solve the static part, while the same method is utilized for the solution of the linearized dynamic part and the extraction of the natural frequencies of the cracked beam. The investigation includes several numerical as well as experimental case studies on the post-buckled simply supported and clamped-clamped beams having open cracks. The results show that several parameters such as the amount of applied compressive force and boundary conditions influences the outcome of the crack detection scheme. The identification results also show that the crack position and depth can be predicted well by the presented method.

An iterative modal analysis approach is developed to determine the effect of transverse open cracks on the dynamic behavior of simply supported Euler-Bernoulli beams with the moving masses. The influences of the velocities of moving masses, the distance between the moving masses and a crack have been studied on the dynamic behavior or a simply supported beam system by numerical method. no presence or crack results in large deflection of beam. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments i.e. the crack is modelled as a rotational spring. This flexibility matrix defines the relationship between the displacements and forces across the crack section and is derived by applying fundamental fracture mechanics theory. Totally, as the velocity of the moving masses and the distance between the moving masses are increased, the mid-span deflection of simply supported beam with the crack is decreased.

The underground method can be divided into Top-Down, Semi-Top-Down, Up-Up and Down-Up methods according to the construction order of the upper and lower structures. Among them, the Down-Up method proceeds with the construction of the first floor and its lower floors, and when the foundation is completed, the vertical members of the basement are sequentially completed from the foundation and the above-ground floor is constructed. In this paper, the crack reduction method around the open section of the Down-Up method affected by earth pressure was analyzed and divided into design and construction parts.
In this paper, we studied about the effect of the open crack and a tip mass on the dynamic behavior of a cantilever pipe conveying fluid with a moving mass. The equation of motion is derived by using Lagrange's equation and analyzed by numerical method. The cantilever pipe is modelled by the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged pipe segments. The influences of the crack, the moving mass, the tip mass and its moment of inertia, the velocity of fluid, and the coupling of these factors on the vibration mode, the frequency, and the tip-displacement of the cantilever pipe are analytically clarified.
The focus of this paper is on the elements with stable open cracks. To analyze plane problems, two triangular elements with three and six nodes are formulated using force method. Flexibility matrices of the elements are derived by combining the non-cracked flexibility and the additional one due to crack, which is computed by utilizing the local flexibility method. In order to compute the flexibility matrix of the intact element, a basic coordinate system without rigid body motions is required. In this paper, the basic system origin is located at the crack center and one of its axis coincides with the crack surfaces. This selection makes it possible to formulate elements with inclined cracks. It is obvious that the ability of the suggested elements in calculating accurate natural frequencies for cracked structures, make them applicable for vibration-based crack detection.
In this paper, utilizing the theory of ductile fracture a chevron crack in a 4-stage open cold extrusion process is predicted by the finite element methods and then compared with previous experiments. The normalized Cockcroft-Latham damage model is employed and the material is identified using a tensile test based material identification technique that gives fracture information as well as flow stress at large strain. A large difference between the predicted cracks and actual experiments is observed, specifically narrower width and greater maximum height of the crack. This reveals the limitation of this approach based on the conventional theory of ductile fracture. Based on the observations and the related criticisms, a new approach for predicting the chevron crack is proposed, suggesting that either the critical damage should not be a fixed material constant, or that the conventional fracture theory should be considered with the effects of embrittlement due to accumulated plastic deformation while the duration of crack generation and plastic deformation should be reduced.

It is investigated that the characteristics of rotating cantilevered composite beam with a breathing crack. In the present study, the crack is modeled as a breathing crack which opens and closes with the motion of the unidirectional graphite-fiber reinforced polyimide beam. For the finite element analysis, the cracked element is modelled by the local flexibility matrix calculated on the basis of fracture mechanics using Castiligano theorem. Rotating beam is considered only transverse bending motion so that the element includes two degrees of freedom per node such as the transverse deflection and slope. The time history and frequency response function of the beam with a breathing crack are studied by Newmark direct time integration method and FFT(Fast Fourier Transform)simulation. Effects of various parameters such as the crack depths, crack locations, ply angles, volume fraction ratios, and rotating speeds of the beam are also studied. Numerical results indicate that it is more reliable to be modelled as a breathing crack than an open crack.
An inverse approach is presented for calculating the flexibility coefficient of open-side cracks in the cross sectional of beams. The cracked cross section is treated as a massless rotational spring which connects two segments of the beam. Based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, the differential equation governing the forced vibration of each segment of the beam is written. By using a mathematical manipulation the time dependent differential equations are transformed into the static substitutes. The crack characteristics are then introduced to the solution of the differential equations via the boundary conditions. By having the time history of transverse response of an arbitrary location along the beam, the flexibility coefficient of crack is calculated. The method is applied for some cracked beams with solid rectangular cross sections and the results obtained are compared with the available data in literature. The comparison indicates that the predictions of the proposed method are in good agreement with the reported data. The procedure is quite general so as to it can be applicable for both single-side crack and double-side crack analogously. Hence, it is also applied for some test beams with double-side cracks.

A modeling method for the modal analysis of a multi-packet blade system having a crack undergoing rotational motion is presented in this paper. Each blade is assumed as a slender cantilever beam. The stiffness coupling effects between blades due to the flexibilities of the disc and the shroud are modeled with discrete springs. Hybrid deformation variables are employed to derive the equations of motion. The flexibility due to crack, which is assumed to be open during the vibration, is calculated basing on a fracture mechanics theory. To obtain more general information, the equations of motion are transformed into dimensionless forms in which dimensionless parameters are identified. The effects of the dimensionless parameters related to the angular speed, the depth and location of a crack on the modal characteristics of the system are investigated with some numerical examples.

In this paper a dynamic behavior of simply supported cracked simply supported beam with the moving masses is presented. Based on the Timoshenko beam theory, the equation of motion can be constructed by using the Lagrange's equation. The crack section is represented by a local flexibility matrix connecting two undamaged beam segments i.e. the crack is modelled as a rotational spring. This flexibility matrix defines the relationship between the displacements and forces across the crack section and is derived by applying fundamental fracture mechanics the of. And the crack is assumed to be in th first mode of fracture. As the depth of the crack and velocity of fluid are increased the mid-span deflection of the pipe conveying fluid with the moving mass is increased. As depth of the crack is increased, the effect that the velocity of the fluid on the mid-span deflection appeals more greatly.
