  • Comfortable sleeping itself is thought to be very much important to have great influence upon remaining lives. Bed-clothes can be an essential factor of comfortable bedding. Korea that has four seasons requires different blanket each season. The Koreans make change of use of the quilt at least 2 to 3 times a year. The quilt may vary depending upon use of either Ondol or bed. Brand bedding governs quilt market. Brand bedding shops have good cognition of customers to be located at the place easy to find out and to have various kinds of products and excellent designs and to take the lead in all of the areas. Non-brand bedding products are difficult to compete with brand products at the bedding market. This study investigated cases of not only management of non brand bedding but also competition between brand bedding and non brand bedding. First, How does non brand bedding elevate competitiveness to win at competition with brand bedding? Second, How dose non brand quilt's approach to consumers and sales strategies?

  • At Grashof numbers $10^{10},\;5{\times}10^{10}$, and $10^{11}$ nonlinear partial differential equations for two dimensional thermal circulation of air in a rectangular enclosure heated from below are solved numerically by finite difference explicit methood in time-dependent form. Two vertical walls and ceiling are held at low temperature and floor at high temperture. Results are compared with From's numerical solutions at $10^9{\lesssim}\;N_{Gr}\;<10^{13}$. The effective draft temperature fields are also obtained to examine cold draft problem, there included a line of constant effective draft temperature $-1.667^{\circ}C$ which is essentially Houghten's $80\%$ comfort data.

Ethnographic research with questionnaire were used. Results of the research were as follows. 1. Korean immigrants in each countries were living in houses which was built by company of Australia and Canada. 44.2% of Korean immigrants in Australia were using L+D K and 53.1% of Korean immigrants in Canada were using L D K. 2. Laundry was indispensable for Korean immigrants in both countries and they all wanted to use the laundry as a utility room which could dry, ironing and so on. 3. Drain hole on the floor of the bathroom was not indispensable for most Korean immigrants in both countries for hygienic reason. 4. Korean immigrants in both countries were ironing in master bedroom and they all wanted to separate it from there through renovation and extension and so on. 5. Korean immigrants in Canada were more active to use the formal lounge which has been planned as a traditional element of western house. 6. The seating style of Korean immigrants in both countries belong to chair-seating style mostly. But it was clear that they were making Kimchi with floor seating style in both countries. 7. A level of satisfaction about using carpet was not high for Korean immigrants in both countries cause of uneasiness to clean and it was considered to relate to the floor seating style of them. 8. Almost Korean immigrants were took off the shoes inside of the house and they had shoes cabinet beside the entrance or basement usually. 9. The most popular heating system was ducted heating in both countries. • The viscoelastic properties of blends of melamine-formaldehyde (MF) resin and poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) for engineered flooring used on the Korean traditional ONDOL house floor heating system were investigated by dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA). Because MF resin is a thermosetting adhesive, the effect of MF rein was shown across all thermal behaviors. The addition of PVAc reduced the curing temperature. The DMTA thermogram of MF resin showed that the storage modulus (E') increased as the temperature was further increased as a result of the cross-linking induced by the curing reaction of the resin. The storage modulus (E') of MF resin increased both as a function of increasing temperature and with increasing heating rate. From isothermal DMTA results, peak $T_{tan{\delta}}$ values, maximum value of loss modulus (E") and the rigidities (${\Delta}E$) of MF/PVAc blends at room temperature as a function of open time, peak $T_{tan{\delta}}$ and maximum loss modulus (E") values were found to increase with blend MF content. Moreover, the rigidities of the 70:30 and 50:50 MF/PVAc blends were higher than those of the other blends, especially of 100% PVAc or MF. We concluded that blends the MF/PVAc blend ratios correlate during the adhesion process.

  • Purpose: This study investigated various factors relatied to wandering behavior of Korean elders with dementia (KED). Methods: A sample of 160 ambulatory residents with dementia from 14 long term care facilities was used to examine demographic, individual, cognitive, physical health, and environmental characteristics by comparing wanderers (N=108) to nonwanders (N=52). Subjects were evaluated by Korean versions of the Mini-mental State Exam (K-MMSE), the Physical and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (K-PIADL), and the Revised Algase Wandering Scale Nursing Home version (KRAWS-NH) along its six dimensions. Demographic and environmental data were also obtained. Independent sample t-tests, Chi-square test, Fisher's Exact tests, and ANCOVAs were used to examine differences between wanderers and nonwanders. Results: Wanderers were significantly (p<.05) older and had more limitations in K-PADL and K-IADL. The degree of overall wandering and certain features of wandering were significantly different (p<.05) by total number of residents in the facility, type of bedroom (i.e., "Ondol"), and color of bedroom and living-room walls (i.e., sky blue). Conclusions: Findings of this study may be useful in understanding wandering behavior of KEDs and thus developing more culturally specific management strategies.

  • It is possible to explain the design, the meaning, and the use of domestic space by comparing different cultures. The characteristics of Koreans' housing life living in western cultures has already been studied extensively. Because of political reasons, however, the characteristics of Koreans' housing life living in Chinese culture has hardly been studied at all. The purpose of this study was to find out the characteristics of succession and transformation of domestic housing culture. The data was collected by questionnaire methods from fifty Korean households and eleven Chinese households. Individual interviews and actual surveys, including taking pictures were also used for data collection. The results of this study were as follows (1)An analysis of heating system usage behaviors showed the importance of heated floors, known as Ondol, is one of the enduring characteristics of domestic habits. (2)In the sitting style, the traditional sitting on the floor was shown in living room. (3)Regarding room usage behavior, Korean households were centered around the living room in chinese houses. (4)An analysis of space organization preferences with respect to common spaces revealed that Korean households tend to prefer the open plan of common spaces.
