Studies on Pyrolysis Behaviour of Banana Stem as Precursor for Porous Carbons

  • Porous carbons have been prepared from different parts of banana stems using two different routes, viz., by pyrolysing the mass at different temperatures as well as by treating the dried mass with chemicals followed by pyrolysis. The pyrolysis behaviour of all these materials has been studied up to $1000^{\circ}C$. Samples treated with acids exhibit more increase in surface area as compared to those treated with alkalies or salts. Analysis of BET surface area shows that the carbon prepared at low temperature shows mixed porosity, i.e., micro and mesopores. Samples heated to high temperature above $700^{\circ}C$ show decrease in macroporosity and increase in microporosity. Liquid adsorption studies have been made using methylene blue and heavy oil. The activated carbons so prepared exhibit higher oil adsorption mainly in the macro and mesopores.

  • 옥수수 기름의 탈취온도가 trans 지방산 생성량 및 그 조성에 미치는 영향을 GLC를 이용하여 측정하였다. 상대적으로 저온탈취인 240~25$0^{\circ}C$에서는 극미량의 trans 지방산만이 검출되었으나, 고온탈취인 255~27$0^{\circ}C$ 구간에서는 0.30, 0.57, 0.64 및 0.81%를 나타내었다. 이성화 현상은 이중결합수가 증가할수록 두드러졌으며, tt 및 ttt형은 거의 검출되지 않았는데 비하여 ct, cct 및 tcc형이 다량 검출되었다. 따라서, 탈취유의 이화학적 특성과 함께 이성체형성의 극소화는 저온탈취에 의하여 최대의 효과를 얻을 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • 국산 소형어선용 예연소실식 디젤기관의 연료유를 가열할 경우, 연소특성 및 기관성능에 미치는 영향에 관하여 실험한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1) 연료유 분사시작점은 연료유 가열온도의 증가에 따라 늦어지는 경향을 나타냈으며, 특히 저부하 운전시 늦어지는 경향이 현저했다. 2) 연소최고압력점은 연료유 가열온도의 증가에 따라 늦어졌으며, 연소최고압력은 연료유 가열온도 증가에 따라 감소하였으나 부하의 증가에 따라 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 3) 연료소비율은 부하의 증가에 따라 감소하였으며, 연료소비율이 가장 작은 연료유의 최적가열온도는 15$0^{\circ}C$부근임을 나타내고 있다. 4) 그을음농도는 부하와 연료유 가열온도의 증가에 따라 증가하는 경향을 나타냈다.

Relationship Between Exothermic Heat and Carbon Contents of Pitch-based Carbon Fiber

  • Pitch-based carbon fiber tows were prepared from naphtha cracking bottom oil by reforming and carbonization. The relationship between exothermic heat and carbon contents of the fiber was investigated by changing the carbonization conditions. The carbon contents and the crystallinities of isotropic pitch-based carbon fibers were 86.8~93.8 wt% and 33.7~40.1%, respectively, which were linearly proportional to the increase of carbonization temperature from 700 to $1000^{\circ}C$. The exothermic heat (temperature increase) of fiber tows was measured in a short time, which was also linearly proportional to the increase of carbon contents due to the increase of crystallinity, even though the crystallinity was low. Therefore, the carbon contents or carbonization degree of fibers can rapidly and indirectly be estimated by measuring the surface temperature increase of fibers.

  • The purposes of the present study are to produce a high thermal efficient of oil-based nanofluids which can be used as ultra-high voltage transformer oil, and to investigate their thermal and physical properties under static and dynamic conditions. Three kinds of nanofluids are prepared by dispersing $Al_2O_3$ or AlN nanoparticles in transformer oil. The thermal conductivities of the nanoparticles-oil mixtures increase with temperature, particle volume concentration and thermal conductivity of solid particle itself. It was quite important to eliminate $H_2O$ as byproducts of esterification and excess oleic acid which did not form stable chemical bonds with powder surface to get high dispersion stability.

  • Experiments have been conducted to investigate scuffing mechanism in oil lubricated piston-ring /cylinder sliding contacts. Samples were extracted from actual components to simulate the real contact geometry and other influencing conditions. A standard test machine. with some modifications, has been used for the investigation of the effects of surface temperature load and sliding velocity. preliminary tests were carried out to find the critical temperature of scuffing using gradient temperature under a constant load, reciprocating frequency and stroke. The experimental and analytical results show that a transition from lubricated contact to adhesion, accompanied by the phenomena such as material transfer between the two sliding surfaces, local contact welding and temperature rise, and sharp increase in friction coefficient, appears to contribute to the final failure of scuffing.

  • A diesel engine requires a high Performance of lubrication because of the extreme conditions such as high temperature and pressure during combustion process in a cylinder. Many researches to improve the lubrication performance on the extreme condition have been executed. The lubricant oil suspended with nano-metal particles is the one of the measure. In this study, the nano-lubricant oil is applied on a commercial diesel engine, and the engine performance is tested. The results show the increase of maximum torque and the decrease of cylinder pressure, exhaust gas temperature, CO emission.

Heat Generation of Angular Contact Ball Bearings

  • The heat generations of angular contact ball bearings are studied experimentally with numerical simulations. The temperature variations of inner and outer races and the temperature increase distributions are measured by using thermocouples for the spindle rotational speeds, preloads, viscosity of oils, and lubrication methods. The measured values from experiments are used to estimate the heat generation rates. The heat generation is focused mainly on the dominant sources which are robbings due to spin and gyro-moments of bearing balls, applied load and viscous friction. Oil-jet and oil-air lubrication methods are adopted using oils with different viscosities.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 styrene-butadiene-styrene(SBS) 블록공중합체와 폐타이어 고무분말(crumb rubber, CR)로 개질한 아스팔트의 저온접착특성에 대해 파라핀오일 가소제의 영향에 대한 것이다. SBS/CR로 개질한 아스팔트 블렌드와 파라핀오일/SBS/CR 아스팔트 블렌드의 온도 민감성을 침입도와 연화점으로 측정하였다. 형광현미경으로 파라핀오일/SBS/CR 아스팔트 블렌드에 대한 개질제들의 분산 상태와 만능시험기로 저온에서 접착성질을 각각 측정하였다. 저온접착시험에서 SBS 함량의 증가와 파라핀오일 함량 5 wt % 및 10 wt %에서 접착강도와 변형률이 증가하였다. $-20^{\circ}C$에서 측정한 접착강도와 강인성은 파라핀오일이 10 wt %와 SBS 공중합체의 양이 6 wt %인 조성에서 최대값을 얻었다. SBS/CR/아스팔트 블렌드에서 파라핀오일의 첨가는 유연성을 부여하는 효과를 나타내고, 저온에서 강인성의 증가를 가져오는 것을 확인하였다.

  • The operation condition of recently designed pistons for high power and high speed diesel engine become more severe due to the increment of combustion pressure and temperature. So, in order to overcome high temperature, the application of the mono-metal cast aluminum alloy piston featuring an enclosed cast-in open cooling gallery has increased. In this research, it is developed a PCJ (piston cooling jet) rig tester, described the test procedure and validated the performance of sample piston cooling gallery design. Then the test rig will be used for developing the design technology of piston cooling gallery. The test rig is composed with oil reservoir and pumping system, oil jet system, piston fixing and moving system, collecting oil measuring system, and data measuring and recording system. It will be measured collecting efficiencies under conditions of a few piston positions, oil jet pressures and oil viscosities for a piston cooling gallery. Furthermore, the PCJ rig tester will be used for the optimum design of the oil cooling gallery which being applied to increase the cooling efficiency of pistons in diesel engines satisfying the EURO V emission regulation and the more.
